Siracide 42

BIBBIA RICCIOTTI	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 - di riferire il discorso udito, e di rivelare una cosa segreta. Cosi tu avrai il vero rossore, e troverai grazia al cospetto di tutti gli uomini. Non ti vergognare [invece] di tutte queste [altre] cose [che per dire] nè aver riguardo a nessuno, in modo da peccare:	1 But of these things be not ashamed, lest you sin through human respect:
2 della legge [cioè] dell'Altissimo e del suo patto, e d'una [giusta] sentenza a favore d'un empio,	2 Of the law of the Most High and his precepts, or of the sentence to be passed upon the sinful;
3 del conteggiar con gli amici e gli ospiti, e della divisione d'eredità tra compagni;	3 Of sharing the expenses of a business or a journey, or of dividing an inheritance or property;
4 della esattezza della stadera e delle bilance, del molto o poco acquisto,	4 Of accuracy of scales and balances, or of tested measures and weights;
5 del vario guadagno, nella vendita e nel negoziare; della severa correzione de' figliuoli, e di far sanguinar le costole a un pessimo schiavo;	5 Of acquiring much or little, or of bargaining in dealing with a merchant; Of constant training of children, or of beating the sides of a disloyal servant;
6 sur una moglie cattiva, buona cosa è il sigillo,	6 Of a seal to keep an erring wife at home, or of a lock placed where there are many hands;
7 e dove son molte mani, chiudi a chiave; conta e pesa ogni cosa che fornisci, e metti per iscritto quel che dai e ricevi;	7 Of numbering every deposit, or of recording all that is given or received;
8 [non ti vergognare] di riprender l'insipiente e lo stolto, e i vecchi che voglion gareggiare con i giovani. E sarai prudente in ogni cosa, e troverai approvazione al cospetto di tutti i viventi.	8 Of chastisement of the silly and the foolish, or of the aged and infirm answering for wanton conduct. Thus you will be truly cautious and recognized by all men as discreet.
9 Una figliuola è l'insonnia segreta del padre, e la sollecitudine per lei [gli] toglie il sonno; nella sua adolescenza, perchè non oltrepassi l'età, e andata a marito, perchè non divenga odiosa;	9 A daughter is a treasure that keeps her father wakeful, and worry over her drives away rest: Lest she pass her prime unmarried, or when she is married, lest she be disliked;
10 finch'è ragazza, perchè non sia contaminata, e si trovi incinta nella casa paterna; e andata a marito, perchè non trasgredisca [1 suoi doveri], o per lo meno rimanga sterile.	10 While unmarried, lest she be seduced, or, as a wife, lest she prove unfaithful; Lest she conceive in her father's home, or be sterile in that of her husband.
11 Sopra una figliuola licenziosa accresci la vigilanza, perchè non faccia di te il ludibrio de' nemici, la chiacchiera della città e l'improperio della gente, e non ti copra d'ignominia davanti a tutto il popolo.	11 Keep a close watch on your daughter, lest she make you the sport of your enemies, A byword in the city, a reproach among the people, an object of derision in public gatherings. See that there is no lattice in her room, no place that overlooks the approaches to the house.
12 Non guardare alla bellezza di un uomo, e in mezzo alle donne non t'intrattenere.	12 Let her not parade her charms before men, or spend her time with married women;
13 Come invero dalle vesti viene fuori la tignola, cosi dalla donna la malignità d'[altra] donna.	13 For just as moths come from garments, so harm to women comes from women:
14 « Meglio la cattiveria d'un uomo che una donna benefica» e una donna che disonora sino all'ignominia!	14 Better a man's harshness than a woman's indulgence, and a frightened daughter than any disgrace.
15 Ricorderò le opere del Signore, e ciò che ho veduto racconterò. Per la parola del Signore esistono le sue opere!	15 Now will I recall God's works; what I have seen, I will describe. At God's word were his works brought into being; they do his will as he has ordained for them.
16 Il sole lucente si spande su' tutto, e della gloria del Signore è piena l'opera sua.	16 As the rising sun is clear to all, so the glory of the LORD fills all his works;
17 Non concesse il Signore [neppure] ai santi di raccontar tutte le sue meraviglie, che il Signore onnipotente ha consolidate, perchè stabili fossero a sua gloria.	17 Yet even God's holy ones must fail in recounting the wonders of the LORD, Though God has given these, his hosts, the strength to stand firm before his glory.
18 L'abisso [dell'oceano] e il cuore degli uomini egli scruta, e penetra le loro scaltrezze.	18 He plumbs the depths and penetrates the heart; their innermost being he understands. The Most High possesses all knowledge, and sees from of old the things that are to come:
19 Perchè il Signore sa ogni cosa, e osserva i segni de' tempi: annunzia il passato e il futuro, e rivela le tracce delle cose occulte.	19 He makes known the past and the future, and reveals the deepest secrets.
20 Non gli sfugge nessun pensiero, e non si cela a lui nessuna parola.	20 No understanding does he lack; no single thing escapes him.
21 Le magnificenze della sua sapienza egli ha apprestato, egli ch'è prima de' secoli e per [tutti] i secoli: e nulla è stato aggiunto,	21 Perennial is his almighty wisdom; he is from all eternity one and the same,
22 nulla tolto, e non ha avuto bisogno del consiglio alcuno.	22 With nothing added, nothing taken away; no need of a counselor for him!
23 Quanto amabili son tutte le sue opere! e appena una scintilla se ne può contemplare!	23 How beautiful are all his works! even to the spark and the fleeting vision!
24 Tutte queste cose vivono e durano in perpetuo, e tutte in ogni occorrenza obbediscono a lui.	24 The universe lives and abides forever; to meet each need, each creature is preserved.
25 Tutte sono appaiate, una di fronte all'altra, e nulla egli ha fatto di manchevole.	25 All of them differ, one from another, yet none of them has he made in vain, For each in turn, as it comes, is good; can one ever see enough of their splendor?
26 Di ognuno ha assicurato il bene [per mezzo dell'altra]: e chi si sazierà di contemplar la sua gloria?
