Isaia 33

1 Guai a te, che devasti e non sei stato devastato, che saccheggi e non sei stato saccheggiato: sarai devastato, quando avrai finito di devastare, ti saccheggeranno, quando avrai finito di saccheggiare.	1 Woe, O destroyer never destroyed, O traitor never betrayed! When you finish destroying, you will be destroyed; when wearied with betraying, you will be betrayed.
2 Pietà di noi, Signore, in te speriamo; sii il nostro braccio ogni mattina, nostra salvezza nel tempo dell’angoscia.	2 O LORD, have pity on us, for you we wait. Be our strength every morning, our salvation in time of trouble!
3 Alla voce del tuo fragore fuggono i popoli, quando t’innalzi si disperdono le nazioni.	3 At the roaring sound, peoples flee; when you rise in your majesty, nations are scattered.
4 Si ammucchia la preda come si ammucchiano le cavallette, ci si precipita sopra come si precipitano le locuste.	4 Men gather spoil as caterpillars are gathered up; they rush upon it like the onrush of locusts.
5 Eccelso è il Signore perché abita in alto; egli riempie Sion di diritto e di giustizia.	5 The LORD is exalted, enthroned on high; he fills Zion with right and justice.
6 C’è sicurezza nei tuoi giorni, sapienza e conoscenza sono ricchezze che salvano; il timore del Signore è il suo tesoro.	6 That which makes her seasons lasting, the riches that save her, are wisdom and knowledge; the fear of the LORD is her treasure.
7 Ecco, gli araldi gridano di fuori, piangono amaramente i messaggeri di pace.	7 See, the men of Ariel cry out in the streets, the messengers of Shalem weep bitterly.
8 Sono deserte le strade, non c’è chi passi per la via. È stata infranta l’alleanza, sono stati respinti i testimoni, non si è avuto riguardo per nessuno.	8 The highways are desolate, travelers have quit the paths, Covenants are broken, their terms are spurned; yet no man gives it a thought.
9 La terra è in lutto, è piena di squallore, si scolora il Libano e sfiorisce; la pianura di Saron è simile a una steppa, sono brulli i monti di Basan e il Carmelo.	9 The country languishes in mourning, Lebanon withers with shame; Sharon is like the steppe, Bashan and Carmel are stripped bare.
10 «Ora mi alzerò – dice il Signore –, ora mi innalzerò, ora mi esalterò.	10 Now will I rise up, says the LORD, now will I be exalted, now be lifted up.
11 Avete concepito fieno, partorirete paglia; il vostro soffio è un fuoco: vi divorerà.	11 You conceive dry grass, bring forth stubble; my spirit shall consume you like fire.
12 I popoli saranno fornaci per calce, spini tagliati da bruciare nel fuoco.	12 The peoples shall be as in a limekiln, like brushwood cut down for burning in the fire.
13 Ascoltate, voi lontani, quanto ho fatto, riconoscete, voi vicini, qual è la mia forza».	13 Hear, you who are far off, what I have done; you who are near, acknowledge my might.
14 A Sion hanno paura i peccatori, uno spavento si è impadronito dei malvagi. Chi di noi può abitare presso un fuoco divorante? Chi di noi può abitare tra fiamme perenni?	14 On Zion sinners are in dread, trembling grips the impious: "Who of us can live with the consuming fire? who of us can live with the everlasting flames?"
15 Colui che cammina nella giustizia e parla con lealtà, che rifiuta un guadagno frutto di oppressione, scuote le mani per non prendere doni di corruzione, si tura le orecchie per non ascoltare proposte sanguinarie e chiude gli occhi per non essere attratto dal male:	15 He who practices virtue and speaks honestly, who spurns what is gained by oppression, Brushing his hands free of contact with a bribe, stopping his ears lest he hear of bloodshed, closing his eyes lest he look on evil--
16 costui abiterà in alto, fortezze sulle rocce saranno il suo rifugio, gli sarà dato il pane, avrà l’acqua assicurata.	16 He shall dwell on the heights, his stronghold shall be the rocky fastness, his food and drink in steady supply.
17 I tuoi occhi vedranno un re nel suo splendore, contempleranno una terra sconfinata.	17 Your eyes will see a king in his splendor, they will look upon a vast land.
18 Il tuo cuore mediterà con terrore: «Dov’è colui che registra? Dov’è colui che pesa il denaro? Dov’è colui che ispeziona le torri?».	18 Your mind will dwell on the terror: "Where is he who counted, where is he who weighed? Where is he who counted the towers?"
19 Non vedrai più quel popolo insolente, popolo dal linguaggio oscuro, incomprensibile, dalla lingua barbara che non si capisce.	19 To the people of alien tongue you will look no more, the people of obscure speech, stammering in a language not understood.
20 Guarda Sion, la città delle nostre feste! I tuoi occhi vedranno Gerusalemme, dimora tranquilla, tenda che non sarà più rimossa, i suoi paletti non saranno divelti, nessuna delle sue cordicelle sarà strappata.	20 Look to Zion, the city of our festivals; let your eyes see Jerusalem as a quiet abode, a tent not to be struck, Whose pegs will never be pulled up, nor any of its ropes severed.
21 Ma è là che è potente il Signore per noi, regione di fiumi e larghi canali; non ci passerà nave a remi né l’attraverserà naviglio potente.	21 In a place of rivers and wide streams on which no boat is rowed, where no majestic ship passes,
22 Poiché il Signore è nostro giudice, il Signore è nostro legislatore, il Signore è nostro re: egli ci salverà.	22 Indeed the LORD will be there with us, majestic; yes, the LORD our judge, the LORD our lawgiver, the LORD our king, he it is who will save us.
23 Sono allentate le sue corde, non tengono più l’albero diritto, non spiegano più le vele. Allora sarà divisa in grande abbondanza la preda della rapina. Gli zoppi faranno un ricco bottino.	23 The rigging hangs slack; it cannot hold the mast in place, nor keep the sail spread out. Then the blind will divide great spoils and the lame will carry off the loot.
24 Nessuno degli abitanti dirà: «Io sono malato». Il popolo che vi dimora è stato assolto dalle sue colpe.	24 No one who dwells there will say, "I am sick"; the people who live there will be forgiven their guilt.
