1 Oracolo sul deserto del mare. Come i turbini che si scatenano nel Negheb, così egli viene dal deserto, da una terra orribile.	1 Proclamation about the coastal desert: As whirlwinds sweeping over the Negeb, he comes from thedesert, from a fearsome country.
2 Una visione tremenda mi fu mostrata: il saccheggiatore che saccheggia, il distruttore che distrugge. Salite, o Elamiti, assediate, o Medi! Io faccio cessare ogni gemito.	2 A harsh vision has been shown me, 'The traitor betrays and the despoiler despoils. Advance, Elam, laysiege, Media!' I have cut short all groaning.
3 Per questo i miei reni sono nello spasimo, mi hanno colto dolori come di una partoriente; sono troppo sconvolto per udire, troppo sbigottito per vedere.	3 This is why my loins are racked with pain, why I am seized with pangs like the pangs of a woman inlabour; I am too distressed to hear, too afraid to look.
4 Smarrito è il mio cuore, la costernazione mi invade; il tramonto tanto desiderato diventa il mio terrore.	4 My heart is bewildered, dread overwhelms me, the twilight I longed for has become my horror.
5 Si prepara la tavola, si stende la tovaglia, si mangia, si beve. Alzatevi, o capi, ungete gli scudi,	5 They lay the table, spread the cloth, they eat, they drink. Up, princes, grease the shield!
6 poiché così mi ha detto il Signore: «Va’, metti una sentinella che annunci quanto vede.	6 For this is what the Lord has told me, 'Go, post a look-out, let him report what he sees.
7 E se vedrà cavalleria, coppie di cavalieri, uomini che cavalcano asini, uomini che cavalcano cammelli, allora osservi attentamente, con grande attenzione».	7 He will see cavalry, horsemen two by two, men mounted on donkeys, men mounted on camels; let himwatch alertly, be very alert indeed!'
8 La vedetta ha gridato: «Al posto di osservazione, Signore, io sto sempre lungo il giorno, e nel mio osservatorio sto in piedi, tutte le notti.	8 Then the look-out shouted, 'On the watchtower, Lord, I stay al day and at my post I stand al night.

12 La sentinella risponde: «Viene il mattino, poi anche la notte; se volete domandare, domandate, convertitevi, venite!».	12 The watchman answers, 'Morning is coming, then night again. If you want to ask, ask! Come back!Come here!'
13 Oracolo nella steppa. Nella boscaglia, nella steppa, passate la notte, carovane di Dedan;	13 Proclamation about the wastelands: In the thickets, on the wastelands, you spend the night, youcaravans of Dedanites.
14 andando incontro agli assetati, portate acqua. Abitanti della terra di Tema, presentatevi ai fuggiaschi con pane per loro.	14 Bring water for the thirsty! The inhabitants of Tema went with bread to greet the fugitive.
