1 'Maskil. Di Asaf.' O Dio, perché ci respingi per sempre, perché divampa la tua ira contro il gregge del tuo pascolo?	1 [Poem Of Asaph] God, why have you final y rejected us, your anger blazing against the flock you usedto pasture?
2 Ricordati del popolo che ti sei acquistato nei tempi antichi. Hai riscattato la tribù che è tuo possesso, il monte Sion, dove hai preso dimora.	2 Remember the people you took to yourself long ago, your own tribe which you redeemed, and thisMount Zion where you came to live.
3 Volgi i tuoi passi a queste rovine eterne: il nemico ha devastato tutto nel tuo santuario.	3 Come up to these endless ruins! The enemy have sacked everything in the sanctuary;
4 Ruggirono i tuoi avversari nel tuo tempio, issarono i loro vessilli come insegna.	4 your opponents made uproar in the place of assemblies, they fixed their emblems over the entrance,emblems
5 Come chi vibra in alto la scure nel folto di una selva,	5 never known before. Their axes deep in the wood,
6 con l'ascia e con la scure frantumavano le sue porte.	6 hacking at the panels, they battered them down with axe and pick;
7 Hanno dato alle fiamme il tuo santuario, hanno profanato e demolito la dimora del tuo nome;	7 they set fire to your sanctuary, profanely rased to the ground the dwel ing-place of your name.
8 pensavano: "Distruggiamoli tutti"; hanno bruciato tutti i santuari di Dio nel paese.	8 They said to themselves, 'Let us crush them at one stroke!' They burned down every sacred shrine inthe land.
9 Non vediamo più le nostre insegne, non ci sono più profeti e tra di noi nessuno sa fino a quando...	9 We see no signs, no prophet any more, and none of us knows how long it wil last.
10 Fino a quando, o Dio, insulterà l'avversario, il nemico continuerà a disprezzare il tuo nome?	10 How much longer, God, will the enemy blaspheme? Is the enemy to insult your name for ever?
11 Perché ritiri la tua mano e trattieni in seno la destra?	11 Why hold back your hand, keep your right hand hidden in the folds of your robe?
12 Eppure Dio è nostro re dai tempi antichi, ha operato la salvezza nella nostra terra.	12 Yet, God, my king from the first, author of saving acts throughout the earth,
13 Tu con potenza hai diviso il mare, hai schiacciato la testa dei draghi sulle acque.	13 by your power you split the sea in two, and smashed the heads of the monsters on the waters.
14 Al Leviatàn hai spezzato la testa, lo hai dato in pasto ai mostri marini.	14 You crushed Leviathan's heads, gave him as food to the wild animals.
15 Fonti e torrenti tu hai fatto scaturire, hai inaridito fiumi perenni.	15 You released the springs and brooks, and turned primordial rivers into dry land.
16 Tuo è il giorno e tua è la notte, la luna e il sole tu li hai creati.	16 Yours is the day and yours the night, you caused sun and light to exist,
17 Tu hai fissato i confini della terra, l'estate e l'inverno tu li hai ordinati.	17 you fixed all the boundaries of the earth, you created summer and winter.
18 Ricorda: il nemico ha insultato Dio, un popolo stolto ha disprezzato il tuo nome.	18 Remember, Yahweh, the enemy's blasphemy, a foolish people insults your name.
19 Non abbandonare alle fiere la vita di chi ti loda, non dimenticare mai la vita dei tuoi poveri.	19 Do not surrender your turtledove to the beast; do not forget for ever the life of your oppressed people.
20 Sii fedele alla tua alleanza; gli angoli della terra sono covi di violenza.	20 Look to the covenant! Al the hiding-places of the land are ful , haunts of violence.
21 L'umile non torni confuso, l'afflitto e il povero lodino il tuo nome.	21 Do not let the downtrodden retreat in confusion, give the poor and needy cause to praise your name.
22 Sorgi, Dio, difendi la tua causa, ricorda che lo stolto ti insulta tutto il giorno.	22 Arise, God, champion your own cause, remember how fools blaspheme you all day long!
23 Non dimenticare lo strepito dei tuoi nemici; il tumulto dei tuoi avversari cresce senza fine.	23 Do not forget the shouting of your enemies, the ever-mounting uproar of your adversaries.
