Psalmus David, cum esset in deserto Idumææ. | 1 [For the choirmaster . . . Jeduthun Psalm Of David] In God alone there is rest for my soul, from himcomes my safety; |
Deus, Deus meus, ad te de luce vigilo. Sitivit in te anima mea ; quam multipliciter tibi caro mea ! | 2 he alone is my rock, my safety, my stronghold so that I stand unshaken. |
In terra deserta, et invia, et inaquosa, sic in sancto apparui tibi, ut viderem virtutem tuam et gloriam tuam. | 3 How much longer wil you set on a victim, al together, intent on murder, like a rampart already leaningover, a wall already damaged? |
Quoniam melior est misericordia tua super vitas, labia mea laudabunt te. | 4 Trickery is their only plan, deception their only pleasure, with lies on their lips they pronounce ablessing, with a curse in their hearts.Pause |
Sic benedicam te in vita mea, et in nomine tuo levabo manus meas. | 5 Rest in God alone, my soul! He is the source of my hope. |
Sicut adipe et pinguedine repleatur anima mea, et labiis exsultationis laudabit os meum. | 6 He alone is my rock, my safety, my stronghold, so that I stand unwavering. |
Si memor fui tui super stratum meum, in matutinis meditabor in te. | 7 In God is my safety and my glory, the rock of my strength. In God is my refuge; |
Quia fuisti adjutor meus, et in velamento alarum tuarum exsultabo. | 8 trust in him, you people, at al times. Pour out your hearts to him, God is a refuge for us.Pause |
Adhæsit anima mea post te ; me suscepit dextera tua. | 9 Ordinary people are a mere puff of wind, important people a delusion; set both on the scales together, and they are lighter than a puff of wind. |
Ipsi vero in vanum quæsierunt animam meam : introibunt in inferiora terræ ; | 10 Put no trust in extortion, no empty hopes in robbery; however much wealth may multiply, do not setyour heart on it. |
tradentur in manus gladii : partes vulpium erunt. | 11 Once God has spoken, twice have I heard this: Strength belongs to God, |
Rex vero lætabitur in Deo ; laudabuntur omnes qui jurant in eo : quia obstructum est os loquentium iniqua. | 12 to you, Lord, faithful love; and you repay everyone as their deeds deserve. |
