| 1 Non confidare nelle inique ricchezze e non dire: « Ne ho abbastanza per vivere », perchè ciò non gioverà a nulla nel tempo della vendetta e della sventura. | 1 Do not set your heart on your wealth, nor say, "I have enough." |
| 2 Non seguire, perchè sei forte, i malvagi desideri del tuo cuore | 2 Do not follow your inclination and strength, walking according to the desires of your heart. |
| 3 e non dire: « Grande è la mia potenza » o « Chi mi farà render conto delle mie azioni? », perchè Dio farà tremenda vendetta. | 3 Do not say, "Who will have power over me?" for the Lord will surely punish you. |
| 4 Non dire: « Ho peccato, e che me n'è venuto di male? », perchè l'Altissimo è paziente, ma paga. | 4 Do not say, "I sinned, and what happened to me?" for the Lord is slow to anger. |
| 5 Del peccato perdonato non esserne senza timore, e non aggiungere peccato a peccato. | 5 Do not be so confident of atonement that you add sin to sin. |
| 6 E non dire « La bontà del Signore è grande: Egli mi perdonerà tanti miei peccati ». | 6 Do not say, "His mercy is great, he will forgive the multitude of my sins," for both mercy and wrath are with him, and his anger rests on sinners. |
| 7 Perchè la misericordia e l'ira parton da lui l'una dietro l'altra, e lo sdegno di lui tien l'occhio fisso sul peccatore. | 7 Do not delay to turn to the Lord, nor postpone it from day to day; for suddenly the wrath of the Lord will go forth, and at the time of punishment you will perish. |
| 8 Non tardare a convertirti al Signore e non differire da un giorno all'altro; | 8 Do not depend on dishonest wealth, for it will not benefit you in the day of calamity. |
| 9 perchè all'improvviso scoppierà l'ira di lui, e nel tempo della vendetta ti manderà in perdizione. | 9 Do not winnow with every wind, nor follow every path: the double-tongued sinner does that. |
| 10 Non esser ansioso d'inique ricchezze, perchè non ti gioveranno nel giorno delle tenebre e della vendetta. | 10 Be steadfast in your understanding, and let your speech be consistent. |
| 11 Non ti volgere ad ogni vento, non andare per ogni via, chè ogni peccatore è provato tale dalla doppia lingua. | 11 Be quick to hear, and be deliberate in answering. |
| 12 Sii fermo nella via del Signore, nella verità dei tuoi sentimenti e nella scienza, e sempre ti accompagni la parola di pace e di giustizia. | 12 If you have understanding, answer your neighbor; but if not, put your hand on your mouth. |
| 13 Ascolta con docilità la parola, per capirla, e per dare con sapienza una risposta giusta. | 13 Glory and dishonor come from speaking, and a man's tongue is his downfall. |
| 14 Se hai capito di che si tratta, rispondi al tuo prossimo, altrimenti mettiti la mano alla bocca, per non esser preso in parola imprudente e averne vergogna. | 14 Do not be called a slanderer, and do not lie in ambush with your tongue; for shame comes to the thief, and severe condemnation to the double-tongued. |
| 15 L'onore e la gloria sono nel discorso dell'uomo di buon senso, ma la lingua dell'imprudente è la sua rovina. | 15 In great and small matters do not act amiss, and do not become an enemy instead of a friend. |
| 16 Guardati dal nome di delatore, per non esser preso nella tua lingua a tua vergogna. | |
| 17 Perchè sul ladro cade la confusione e la pena, sull'uomo di due lingue la peggiore infamia; ma il delatore ha odio, inimicizie e ignominia. | |
