BIBBIA RICCIOTTI	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 - Ma Giobbe rispose e disse:	1 Then Job answered and said:
2 «Oh! se si pesassero i miei peccati, con i quali meritai l'ira, e la sventura ch'io soffro [si mettesse sull'altro piatto] della bilancia!	2 Ah, could my anguish but be measured and my calamity laid with it in the scales,
3 Questa risulterebbe più pesante della sabbia del mare: ond'è che le mie parole son piene di dolore!	3 They would now outweigh the sands of the sea! Because of this I speak without restraint.
4 Poichè le frecce del Signore stanno su me confitte, del loro veleno s'abbevera lo spirito mio, e i terrori del Signore contro di me stanno schierati.	4 For the arrows of the Almighty pierce me, and my spirit drinks in their poison; the terrors of God are arrayed against me.
5 Raglia forse l'onagro quando ha dell'erba, ovver muggisce il bove quando è davanti alla greppia ricolma?	5 Does the wild ass bray when he has grass? Does the ox low over his fodder?
6 Si può forse mangiare ciò ch'è insipido non condito di sale, ovver si gusta ciò che gustato dà morte?	6 Can a thing insipid be eaten without salt? Is there flavor in the white of an egg?
7 Quelle cose che prima l'anima mia non voleva toccare, adesso nella mia sventura son diventate mio cibo.	7 I refuse to touch them; they are loathsome food to me.
8 Oh! se si esaudisse la mia domanda, e ciò che io aspetto mi concedesse Dio!	8 Oh, that I might have my request, and that God would grant what I long for:
9 Cioè, [Dio] che cominciò finisca con lo schiacciarmi, sciolga la sua mano per recidermi!	9 Even that God would decide to crush me, that he would put forth his hand and cut me off!
10 E questa sarebbe per me la consolazione, che, mentre egli mi affligge di dolori senza risparmio, io non rinnego le parole sante.	10 Then I should still have consolation and could exult through unremitting pain, because I have not transgressed the commands of the Holy One.
11 Qual è mai infatti la mia forza, perchè io resista? qual è mai il mio fine, perchè io sia longanime?	11 What strength have I that I should endure, and what is my limit that I should be patient?
12 Nè forza di pietre è la mia forza, nè la mia carne è di bronzo:	12 Have I the strength of stones, or is my flesh of bronze?
13 ecco, non v'è per me alcun sollievo in me, e pur i miei intimi s'allontanaron da me!	13 Have I no helper, and has advice deserted me?
14 Colui che nega al suo amico pietà, abbandona il timor del Signore.	14 A friend owes kindness to one in despair, though he have forsaken the fear of the Almighty.
15 I miei fratelli furon fallaci meco come un torrenteche d'un subito gonfia nelle valli:	15 My brethren are undependable as a brook, as watercourses that run dry in the wadies;
16 in esso si dissolve il ghiaccio, sopra esso cade la neve;	16 Though they may be black with ice, and with snow heaped upon them,
17 ma quando si dissecca è annientatoe al risentir del caldo scompare dal suo letto,	17 Yet once they flow, they cease to be; in the heat, they disappear from their place.
18 si contorcono i rigagnoli del suo corso, si sperdono su nel vuoto e finiscono.	18 Caravans turn aside from their routes; they go into the desert and perish.
19 Le carovane di Thema erano state intente, le torme di Saba avevano sperato alquanto:	19 The caravans of Tema search, the companies of Sheba have hopes;
20 ma restaron confuse perchè sperarono, giunsero fin lì, ma restaron deluse.	20 They are disappointed, though they were confident; they come there and are frustrated.
21 In tal maniera voi vi comportaste, chè ora vedendo la mia sventura vi sbigottite.	21 It is thus that you have now become for me; you see a terrifying thing and are afraid.
22 Ho detto io forse: - Datemi qualcosa? Dei vostri beni fatemi un donativo? -	22 Have I asked you to give me anything, to offer a gift for me from your possessions,
23 Ovvero: - Liberatemi dalla mano dell'avversario? dalla mano dei violenti scampatemi? -	23 Or to deliver me from the enemy, or to redeem me from oppressors?
24 Insegnatemi pure, ed io tacerò, e in ciò in cui io sia ignorante istruitemi.	24 Teach me, and I will be silent; prove to me wherein I have erred.
25 Perchè sminuite le parole veritiere, se fra voi non v'è alcuno che riesca a smentirmi?	25 How agreeable are honest words; yet how unconvincing is your argument!
26 Soltanto per ingiuriare voi intessete discorsi, e gittate le parole al vento;	26 Do you consider your words as proof, but the sayings of a desperate man as wind?
27 sopra un orfano voi vi gettate, e vi sforzate d'abbattere l'amico vostro.	27 You would even cast lots for the orphan, and would barter away your friend!
28 Ma poichè cominciaste, compite, porgete orecchio e vedete se mentisco.	28 Come, now, give me your attention; surely I will not lie to your face.
29 Rispondete, vi prego, senza contenziosità, e ragionando secondo giustizia, sentenziate:	29 Think it over; let there be no injustice. Think it over; I still am right.
30 e non troverete nella mia lingua iniquità, nè dentro la mia bocca risonerà stoltezza.	30 Is there insincerity on my tongue, or cannot my taste discern falsehood?
