1 Voglio cantare per il mio diletto il mio cantico d’amore per la sua vigna. Il mio diletto possedeva una vigna sopra un fertile colle.	1 Let me now sing of my friend, my friend's song concerning his vineyard. My friend had a vineyard on a fertile hillside;
2 Egli l’aveva dissodata e sgombrata dai sassi e vi aveva piantato viti pregiate; in mezzo vi aveva costruito una torre e scavato anche un tino. Egli aspettò che producesse uva; essa produsse, invece, acini acerbi.	2 He spaded it, cleared it of stones, and planted the choicest vines; Within it he built a watchtower, and hewed out a wine press. Then he looked for the crop of grapes, but what it yielded was wild grapes.
3 E ora, abitanti di Gerusalemme e uomini di Giuda, siate voi giudici fra me e la mia vigna.	3 Now, inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah, judge between me and my vineyard:
4 Che cosa dovevo fare ancora alla mia vigna che io non abbia fatto? Perché, mentre attendevo che producesse uva, essa ha prodotto acini acerbi?	4 What more was there to do for my vineyard that I had not done? Why, when I looked for the crop of grapes, did it bring forth wild grapes?
5 Ora voglio farvi conoscere ciò che sto per fare alla mia vigna: toglierò la sua siepe e si trasformerà in pascolo; demolirò il suo muro di cinta e verrà calpestata.	5 Now, I will let you know what I mean to do to my vineyard: Take away its hedge, give it to grazing, break through its wall, let it be trampled!
6 La renderò un deserto, non sarà potata né vangata e vi cresceranno rovi e pruni; alle nubi comanderò di non mandarvi la pioggia.	6 Yes, I will make it a ruin: it shall not be pruned or hoed, but overgrown with thorns and briers; I will command the clouds not to send rain upon it.
7 Ebbene, la vigna del Signore degli eserciti è la casa d’Israele; gli abitanti di Giuda sono la sua piantagione preferita. Egli si aspettava giustizia ed ecco spargimento di sangue, attendeva rettitudine ed ecco grida di oppressi.	7 The vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah are his cherished plant; He looked for judgment, but see, bloodshed! for justice, but hark, the outcry!
8 Guai a voi, che aggiungete casa a casa e unite campo a campo, finché non vi sia più spazio, e così restate soli ad abitare nella terra.	8 Woe to you who join house to house, who connect field with field, Till no room remains, and you are left to dwell alone in the midst of the land!
9 Ha giurato ai miei orecchi il Signore degli eserciti: «Certo, molti palazzi diventeranno una desolazione, grandi e belli saranno senza abitanti».	9 In my hearing the LORD of hosts has sworn: Many houses shall be in ruins, large ones and fine, with no one to live in them.
10 Poiché dieci iugeri di vigna produrranno solo un bat e un homer di seme produrrà un’efa.	10 Ten acres of vineyard shall yield but one liquid measure, And a homer of seed shall yield but an ephah.
11 Guai a coloro che si alzano presto al mattino e vanno in cerca di bevande inebrianti e si attardano alla sera. Il vino li infiamma.	11 Woe to those who demand strong drink as soon as they rise in the morning, And linger into the night while wine inflames them!
12 Ci sono cetre e arpe, tamburelli e flauti e vino per i loro banchetti; ma non badano all’azione del Signore, non vedono l’opera delle sue mani.	12 With harp and lyre, timbrel and flute, they feast on wine; But what the LORD does, they regard not, the work of his hands they see not.
13 Perciò il mio popolo sarà deportato senza che neppure lo sospetti. I suoi grandi periranno di fame, il suo popolo sarà arso dalla sete.	13 Therefore my people go into exile, because they do not understand; Their nobles die of hunger, and their masses are parched with thirst.
14 Pertanto gli inferi dilatano le loro fauci, spalancano senza misura la loro bocca. Vi precipitano dentro la nobiltà e il popolo, il tripudio e la gioia della città.	14 Therefore the nether world enlarges its throat and opens its maw without limit; Down go their nobility and their masses, their throngs and their revelry.
15 L’uomo sarà piegato, il mortale sarà abbassato, gli occhi dei superbi si abbasseranno.	15 Men shall be abased, each one brought low, and the eyes of the haughty lowered,
16 Sarà esaltato il Signore degli eserciti nel giudizio e il Dio santo si mostrerà santo nella giustizia.	16 But the LORD of hosts shall be exalted by his judgment, and God the Holy shall be shown holy by his justice.
17 Allora vi pascoleranno gli agnelli come nei loro prati, sulle rovine brucheranno i grassi capretti.	17 Lambs shall graze there at pasture, and kids shall eat in the ruins of the rich.
18 Guai a coloro che si tirano addosso il castigo con corde da tori e il peccato con funi da carro,	18 Woe to those who tug at guilt with cords of perversity, and at sin as if with cart ropes!
19 che dicono: «Faccia presto, acceleri pure l’opera sua, perché la vediamo; si facciano più vicini e si compiano i progetti del Santo d’Israele, perché li conosciamo».	19 To those who say, "Let him make haste and speed his work, that we may see it; On with the plan of the Holy One of Israel! let it come to pass, that we may know it!"
20 Guai a coloro che chiamano bene il male e male il bene, che cambiano le tenebre in luce e la luce in tenebre, che cambiano l’amaro in dolce e il dolce in amaro.	20 Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil, who change darkness into light, and light into darkness, who change bitter into sweet, and sweet into bitter!

23 a coloro che assolvono per regali un colpevole e privano del suo diritto l’innocente.	23 To those who acquit the guilty for bribes, and deprive the just man of his rights!
24 Perciò, come una lingua di fuoco divora la stoppia e una fiamma consuma la paglia, così le loro radici diventeranno un marciume e la loro fioritura volerà via come polvere, perché hanno rigettato la legge del Signore degli eserciti, hanno disprezzato la parola del Santo d’Israele.	24 Therefore, as the tongue of fire licks up stubble, as dry grass shrivels in the flame, Even so their root shall become rotten and their blossom scatter like dust; For they have spurned the law of the LORD of hosts, and scorned the word of the Holy One of Israel.
25 Per questo è divampato lo sdegno del Signore contro il suo popolo, su di esso ha steso la sua mano per colpire; hanno tremato i monti, i loro cadaveri erano come immondizia in mezzo alle strade. Con tutto ciò non si calma la sua ira e la sua mano resta ancora tesa.	25 Therefore the wrath of the LORD blazes against his people, he raises his hand to strike them; When the mountains quake, their corpses shall be like refuse in the streets. For all this, his wrath is not turned back, and his hand is still outstretched.
26 Egli alzerà un segnale a una nazione lontana e le farà un fischio all’estremità della terra; ed ecco, essa verrà veloce e leggera.	26 He will give a signal to a far-off nation, and whistle to them from the ends of the earth; speedily and promptly will they come.
27 Nessuno fra loro è stanco o inciampa, nessuno sonnecchia o dorme, non si scioglie la cintura dei suoi fianchi e non si slaccia il legaccio dei suoi sandali.	27 None of them will stumble with weariness, none will slumber and none will sleep. None will have his waist belt loose, nor the thong of his sandal broken.
28 Le sue frecce sono acuminate, e ben tesi tutti i suoi archi; gli zoccoli dei suoi cavalli sono come pietre e le ruote dei suoi carri come un turbine.	28 Their arrows are sharp, and all their bows are bent. The hoofs of their horses seem like flint, and their chariot wheels like the hurricane.
29 Il suo ruggito è come quello di una leonessa, ruggisce come un leoncello; freme e afferra la preda, la pone al sicuro, nessuno gliela strappa.	29 Their roar is that of the lion, like the lion's whelps they roar; They growl and seize the prey, they carry it off and none will rescue it.
30 Fremerà su di lui in quel giorno come freme il mare; si guarderà la terra: ecco, saranno tenebre, angoscia, e la luce sarà oscurata dalla caligine.	30 (They will roar over it, on that day, with a roaring like that of the sea.)
