1 - Di ciò s'atterrisce il mio cuore, e balza fuor dal suo posto:	1 At this my heart trembles and leaps out of its place,
2 udite, udite il rombo della sua voce, e il suono che parte dalla bocca di lui;	2 To hear his angry voice as it rumbles forth from his mouth!
3 sotto tutti i cieli ei lo sprigiona, e la sua folgore verso gli estremi della terra:	3 Everywhere under the heavens he sends it, with his lightning, to the ends of the earth.
4 dietro ad essa ruggisce un fragore, tuona [Dio] con la sua voce maestosa, nè s'investiga allorchè s'ascolta la sua voce.	4 Again his voice roars-- the majestic sound of his thunder.
5 Tuona Dio con la sua voce mirabilmente, egli che opera cose grandi e imperscrutabili.	5 He does great things beyond our knowing; wonders past our searching out.
6 Comanda egli alla neve che cada sulla terra, e alle piogge invernali e ai suoi violenti acquazzoni;	6 For he says to the snow, "Fall to the earth"; likewise to his heavy, drenching rain.
7 le mani di ogni uomo ei chiude in un sigillo, affinchè riconosca ciascuno le opere sue:	7 He shuts up all mankind indoors;
8 allor la fiera entra nella tana, e dentro la sua grotta dimora.	8 the wild beasts take to cover and remain quietly in their dens.
9 Dai luoghi reconditi vien fuori la tempesta, e da Arturo il freddo;	9 Out of its chamber comes forth the tempest; from the north winds, the cold.
10 al soffiar di Dio si forma il ghiaccio, e di nuovo s'espandono abbondantissime acque.	10 With his breath God brings the frost, and the broad waters become congealed.
11 Il frumento desidera le nubi, e le nubi lanciano la loro folgore:	11 With hail, also, the clouds are laden, as they scatter their flashes of light.
12 esse s'aggirano all'intorno, ovunque le meni la volontà di chi le governa, per compiere tutto ciò ch'ei loro comandasulla superficie dell'orbe della terra,	12 He it is who changes their rounds, according to his plans, in their task upon the surface of the earth,
13 sia in una sola tribù, sia nella sua terra, sia ovunque la sua bontà vuol che si trovino.	13 whether for punishment or mercy, as he commands.
14 Presta a ciò orecchio, o Giobbe, férmati, e considera le meraviglie di Dio.	14 Hearken to this, O Job! Stand and consider the wondrous works of God!
15 capisci tu forse quando Dio abbia comandato alle pioggedi mostrar la folgore delle sue nubi?	15 Do you know how God lays his commands upon them, and makes the light shine forth from his clouds?
16 capisci tu forse le vie delle nubi, per cognizioni grandi e perfette?	16 Do you know how the clouds are banked, the wondrous work of him who is perfect in knowledge?
17 Non s'infocano forse le tue vesti, allorchè la terra è invasa dal vento del sud?	17 You, whom the streams of water fail when a calm from the south comes over the land,
18 Forse hai tu fabbricato insiem con Lui i cieliche sono saldissimi come se di bronzo fuso?	18 Do you spread out with him the firmament of the skies, hard as a brazen mirror?
19 Facci sapere che cosa potremo dire a Lui, perchè noi siamo involti nelle tenebre.	19 Teach us then what we shall say to him; we cannot, for the darkness, make our plea.
20 Chi riferirà a Lui ciò che io dico? sol che l'uomo ne parli, sarà annientato.	20 Will he be told about it when I speak, or when a man says he is being destroyed?
21 Ed or non si vede la luce, [impedita dall']aere addensatosi a un tratto in nuvole; ma un vento passa e le disperde,	21 Nay, rather, it is as the light which men see not while it is obscured among the clouds, till the wind comes by and sweeps the clouds away.
22 dal settentrione un aureo [fulgore] s'avanza. A Dio [si deve] lode con tremore:	22 From the North the splendor comes, surrounding God's awesome majesty!
23 degnamente non possiamo ritrovarlo; egli è grande per fortezza, giudizio e giustizia, nè si può enarrare.	23 The Almighty! we cannot discover him, pre-eminent in power and judgment; his great justice owes no one an accounting.
24 Perciò gli uomini devono temerlo, nè ardiranno contemplarlo tutti coloro che si ritengono sapienti.»	24 Therefore men revere him, though none can see him, however wise their hearts.
