1 Guai a voi, figli ribelli – oracolo del Signore – che fate progetti senza di me, vi legate con alleanze che io non ho ispirato, così da aggiungere peccato a peccato.	1 Woe to the rebel ious children -- declares Yahweh -- who make plans which do not come from me andmake al iances not inspired by me, and so add sin to sin!
2 Siete partiti per scendere in Egitto senza consultarmi, per mettervi sotto la protezione del faraone e per ripararvi all’ombra dell’Egitto.	2 They are leaving for Egypt, without consulting me, to take refuge in Pharaoh's protection, to shelter inEgypt's shadow.
3 La protezione del faraone sarà la vostra vergogna e il riparo all’ombra dell’Egitto la vostra confusione.	3 Pharaoh's protection will be your shame, the shelter of Egypt's shadow your confounding.
4 Quando i suoi capi saranno giunti a Tanis e i messaggeri avranno raggiunto Canes,	4 For his princes have gone to Zoan and his messengers have reached Hanes.
5 tutti saranno delusi di un popolo che è inutile, che non porterà loro né aiuto né vantaggio, ma solo confusione e ignominia.	5 Everyone has been disappointed by a people who cannot help, who bring neither aid nor profit, onlydisappointment and confusion.
6 Oracolo sulle bestie del Negheb. In una terra di angoscia e di miseria, della leonessa e del leone che ruggisce, di aspidi e draghi volanti, essi portano le loro ricchezze sul dorso di asini, i loro tesori sulla gobba di cammelli a un popolo che non giova a nulla.	6 Proclamation about the beasts of the Negeb: Into the land of distress and of anguish, of lioness androaring lion, of viper and flying dragon, they bear their riches on donkeys' backs, their treasures on camels'humps, to a nation that cannot help:
7 Vano e inutile è l’aiuto dell’Egitto; per questo lo chiamo «Raab l’ozioso».	7 Egypt, whose help is vain and futile; and so I cal her 'Rahab -the-collapsed'.
8 Su, vieni, scrivi questo su una tavoletta davanti a loro, incidilo sopra un documento, perché resti per il futuro in testimonianza perenne.	8 Now go, inscribe this on a tablet, write it on a scrol , so that it may serve for time to come for ever andfor ever.
9 Poiché questo è un popolo ribelle. Sono figli bugiardi, figli che non vogliono ascoltare la legge del Signore.	9 This is a rebellious people, they are lying children, children who will not listen to Yahweh's Law.
10 Essi dicono ai veggenti: «Non abbiate visioni» e ai profeti: «Non fateci profezie sincere, diteci cose piacevoli, profetateci illusioni!	10 To the seers they say, 'See nothing!' To the prophets, 'Do not prophesy the truth to us; tel us flatteringthings; have illusory visions;
11 Scostatevi dalla retta via, uscite dal sentiero, toglieteci dalla vista il Santo d’Israele».	11 turn aside from the way, leave the path, rid us of the Holy One of Israel.'
12 Pertanto dice il Santo d’Israele: «Poiché voi rigettate questa parola e confidate nella vessazione dei deboli e nella perfidia, ponendole a vostro sostegno,	12 So the Holy One of Israel says this, 'Since you have rejected this word and put your trust in fraud anddisloyalty and rely on these,
13 ebbene questa colpa diventerà per voi come una breccia che minaccia di crollare, che sporge su un alto muro, il cui crollo avviene in un attimo, improvvisamente,	13 for you this guilt will prove to be a breach opening up, a bulge at the top of a wal which suddenly andal at once comes crashing down.
14 e s’infrange come un vaso di creta, frantumato senza misericordia, così che non si trova tra i suoi frantumi neppure un coccio con cui si possa prendere fuoco dal braciere o attingere acqua dalla cisterna».	14 He wil shatter it like an earthenware pot, ruthlessly knocking it to pieces, so that of the fragments notone shard can be found with which to take up fire from the hearth or scoop water from the storage-wel .'
15 Poiché così dice il Signore Dio, il Santo d’Israele: «Nella conversione e nella calma sta la vostra salvezza, nell’abbandono confidente sta la vostra forza». Ma voi non avete voluto,	15 For Lord Yahweh, the Holy One of Israel, says this, 'Your salvation lay in conversion and tranquil ity,your strength in serenity and trust and you would have none of it.
16 anzi avete detto: «No, noi fuggiremo su cavalli». Ebbene, fuggite! «Cavalcheremo su destrieri veloci». Ebbene, più veloci saranno i vostri inseguitori.	16 "No," you said, "we shall flee on horses." And so flee you wil ! And again, "We shal ride on swift ones." And so your pursuers will be swift!
17 Mille saranno come uno solo di fronte alla minaccia di un altro, per la minaccia di cinque vi darete alla fuga, finché resti di voi qualcosa come un palo sulla cima di un monte e come un’asta sopra una collina.	17 A thousand wil quake at the threat of one and when five threaten you will flee, until what is left of youwil be like a flagstaff on a mountain top, like a signal on a hil .'
18 Eppure il Signore aspetta con fiducia per farvi grazia, per questo sorge per avere pietà di voi, perché un Dio giusto è il Signore; beati coloro che sperano in lui.	18 But Yahweh is waiting to be gracious to you, the Exalted One, to take pity on you, for Yahweh is aGod of fair judgement; blessed are al who hope in him.
19 Popolo di Sion, che abiti a Gerusalemme, tu non dovrai più piangere. A un tuo grido di supplica ti farà grazia; appena udrà, ti darà risposta.	19 Yes, people of Zion living in Jerusalem, you will weep no more. He wil be gracious to you when yourcry for help rings out; as soon as he hears it, he will answer you.
20 Anche se il Signore ti darà il pane dell’afflizione e l’acqua della tribolazione, non si terrà più nascosto il tuo maestro; i tuoi occhi vedranno il tuo maestro,	20 When the Lord has given you the bread of suffering and the water of distress, he who is your teacherwil hide no longer, and you wil see your teacher with your own eyes.
21 i tuoi orecchi sentiranno questa parola dietro di te: «Questa è la strada, percorretela», caso mai andiate a destra o a sinistra.	21 Your ears wil hear these words behind you, 'This is the way, keep to it,' whether you turn to right orleft.
22 Considererai cose immonde le tue immagini ricoperte d’argento; i tuoi idoli rivestiti d’oro getterai via come un oggetto immondo. «Fuori!», tu dirai loro.	22 You wil hold unclean the silverplating of your idols and the goldplating of your images. You wil throwthem away like the pol uted things they are, shouting after them, 'Good riddance!'
23 Allora egli concederà la pioggia per il seme che avrai seminato nel terreno, e anche il pane, prodotto della terra, sarà abbondante e sostanzioso; in quel giorno il tuo bestiame pascolerà su un vasto prato.	23 He wil send rain for the seed you sow in the ground, and the bread that the ground provides wil berich and nourishing. That day, your cattle will graze in wide pastures.
24 I buoi e gli asini che lavorano la terra mangeranno biada saporita, ventilata con la pala e con il vaglio.	24 Oxen and donkeys that work the land will eat for fodder wild sorrel, spread by the shovel-load andfork-load.
25 Su ogni monte e su ogni colle elevato scorreranno canali e torrenti d’acqua nel giorno della grande strage, quando cadranno le torri.	25 On every lofty mountain, on every high hil there wil be streams and water-courses, on the day of thegreat slaughter when the strongholds fal .
26 La luce della luna sarà come la luce del sole e la luce del sole sarà sette volte di più, come la luce di sette giorni, quando il Signore curerà la piaga del suo popolo e guarirà le lividure prodotte dalle sue percosse.	26 Then moonlight will be bright as sunlight and sunlight itself be seven times brighter -- like the light ofseven days in one -- on the day Yahweh dresses his people's wound and heals the scars of the blows they havereceived.
27 Ecco il nome del Signore venire da lontano, ardente è la sua ira e gravoso il suo divampare; le sue labbra traboccano sdegno, la sua lingua è come un fuoco divorante.	27 See, the name of Yahweh comes from afar, blazing his anger, heavy his threat. His lips are brimmingover with fury, his tongue is like a devouring fire.
28 Il suo soffio è come un torrente che straripa, che giunge fino al collo, per vagliare i popoli con il vaglio distruttore e per mettere alle mascelle dei popoli una briglia che porta a rovina.	28 His breath is like a river in spate coming up to the neck, to sift the nations with the sieve ofdestruction, to harness the peoples in a bridle, that wil lead them astray.
29 Voi innalzerete il vostro canto come nella notte in cui si celebra una festa; avrete la gioia nel cuore come chi parte al suono del flauto, per recarsi al monte del Signore, alla roccia d’Israele.	29 Your song wil be like that on a festal night, and there wil be joy in your hearts as when to the soundof the flute people make a pilgrimage to the mountain of Yahweh, the Rock of Israel.
30 Il Signore farà udire la sua voce maestosa e mostrerà come colpisce il suo braccio con ira ardente, in mezzo a un fuoco divorante, tra nembi, tempesta e grandine furiosa.	30 Yahweh will make his majestic voice ring out, he wil show the weight of his arm in the heat of hisanger, with a devouring fire, with thunderbolt, downpour and hailstones.
31 Poiché alla voce del Signore tremerà l’Assiria, quando il Signore percuoterà con la verga.	31 Yes, at Yahweh's voice Assyria wil be terrified, he wil strike him with his rod;
32 Ogni colpo del bastone punitivo, che il Signore le farà piombare addosso, sarà accompagnato con tamburelli e cetre. Egli combatterà contro di essa con battaglie tumultuose.	32 each time he goes by, wil fal the punishing rod that Yahweh wil lay on him, to the sound oftambourines and harps, in the battles which he wil wage against him with uplifted hand.
33 Il Tofet, infatti, è preparato da tempo: esso è pronto anche per il re. Profondo e largo è il rogo, fuoco e legna abbondano. Lo accenderà, come torrente di zolfo, il soffio del Signore.	33 Yes, Topheth has been ready for a long time now, that too is ready for the king, deep and wide hispyre, fire and wood in plenty. Yahweh's breath, like a stream of brimstone, wil set fire to it.
