1 Eliu prese a dire:	1 Then Elihu proceeded and said:
2 «Ti pare di aver pensato correttamente, quando dicesti: “Sono giusto davanti a Dio”?	2 Do you think it right to say, "I am just rather than God?"
3 Tu dici infatti: “A che serve? Quale guadagno ho a non peccare?”.	3 To say, "What does it profit me; what advantage have I more than if I had sinned?"
4 Voglio replicare a te e ai tuoi amici insieme con te.	4 I have words for a reply to you and your three companions as well.
5 Contempla il cielo e osserva, considera le nubi, come sono più alte di te.	5 Look up to the skies and behold; regard the heavens high above you.
6 Se pecchi, che cosa gli fai? Se aumenti i tuoi delitti, che danno gli arrechi?	6 If you sin, what injury do you do to God? Even if your offenses are many, how do you hurt him?
7 Se tu sei giusto, che cosa gli dai o che cosa riceve dalla tua mano?	7 If you are righteous, what do you give him, or what does he receive from your hand?
8 Su un uomo come te ricade la tua malizia, su un figlio d’uomo la tua giustizia!	8 Your wickedness can affect only a man like yourself; and your justice only a fellow human being.
9 Si grida sotto il peso dell’oppressione, si invoca aiuto contro il braccio dei potenti,	9 In great oppression men cry out; they call for help because of the power of the mighty,
10 ma non si dice: “Dov’è quel Dio che mi ha creato, che ispira nella notte canti di gioia,	10 Saying, "Where is God, my Maker, who has given visions in the night,
11 che ci rende più istruiti delle bestie selvatiche, che ci fa più saggi degli uccelli del cielo?”.	11 Taught us rather than the beasts of the earth, and made us wise rather than the birds of the heavens?"
12 Si grida, allora, ma egli non risponde a causa della superbia dei malvagi.	12 Though thus they cry out, he answers not against the pride of the wicked.
13 È inutile: Dio non ascolta e l’Onnipotente non vi presta attenzione;	13 But it is idle to say God does not hear or that the Almighty does not take notice.
14 ancor meno quando tu dici che non lo vedi, che la tua causa sta innanzi a lui e tu in lui speri,	14 Even though you say that you see him not, the case is before him; with trembling should you wait upon him.
15 e così pure quando dici che la sua ira non punisce né si cura molto dell’iniquità.	15 But now that you have done otherwise, God's anger punishes, nor does he show concern that a man will die.
16 Giobbe dunque apre a vuoto la sua bocca e accumula chiacchiere senza senso».	16 Yet Job to no purpose opens his mouth, and without knowledge multiplies words.
