1 ALEF. Io son l'uomo che ho vista la mia miseria sotto la verga del suo furore. ALEF.	1 Aleph. I am the man that see my poverty by the rod of his indignation.
2 M'ha condotto e m'ha fatto camminare nelle tenebre e non nella luce. ALEF.	2 Aleph. He hath led me, and brought me into darkness, and not into light.
3 Contro me solo stese e ristese tutto il giorno la sua mano. BEI.	3 Aleph. Only against me he hath turned, and turned again his hand all the day.
4 Ha consumato la mia pelle e la mia carne, ha stritolate le mie ossa. BET.	4 Beth. My skin and my flesh he hath made old, he hath broken my bones.
5 Ha alzato un muro intorno a me, m'ha ravvolta nell'amarezza e nell'affanno. BET.	5 Beth. He hath built round about me, and he hath compassed me with gall and labour.
6 Mi pose in luoghi tenebrosi, come quelli che son morti per sempre. GHIMEL.	6 Beth. He hath set me in dark places as those that are dead for ever.
7 Mi serrò dentro un muro, da unii potere uscirne, aggravò i miei ceppi. GHIMEL.	7 Ghimel. He hath built against me round about, that I may not get out: he hath made my fetters heavy.
8 E quand'anche io alzi le grida e lo preghi, ha chiuso il varco alla mia preghiera. GHIMEL.	8 Ghimel. Yea, and when I cry, and entreat, he hath shut out my prayer.
9 Mi ha chiuse le mie strade con pietre quadrate, ha rovinati i miei sentieri. DALET.	9 Ghimel. He hath shut up my ways with square stones, he hath turned my paths upside down.
10 E ' divenuto per me un orso in agguato, un leone in nascondigli. DALET.	10 Daleth. He is become to me as a bear lying in wait: as a lion in secret places.
11 Ha rovinati i miei sentieri, mi ha ridotta in brandelli, mi ha abbandonata alla desolazione. DALET.	11 Daleth. He hath turned aside my paths, and hath broken me in pieces, he hath made me desolate.
12 Tese il suo arco e mi pose qual bersaglio alle frecce. HE.	12 Daleth. He hath bent his bow, and set me as a mark for his arrows.
13 M'ha confitte nei reni le frecce del suo turcasso. HE.	13 He. He hath shot into my reins the daughters of his quiver.
14 Son divenuto il ludibrio di tutto il mio popolo, la loro canzone di tutto il giorno. HE.	14 He. I am made a derision to all my people, their song all the day long.
15 Mi ha ripieno di amarezza, mi ha inebriato d'assenzio. VAU.	15 He. He hath filled me with bitterness, he hath inebriated me with wormwood.
16 Ed ha spezzati ad uno ad lino tutti i miei denti, mi ha cibato di cenere. VAU.	16 Vau. And he hath broken my teeth one by one, he hath fed me with ashes.
17 L'anima mia è allontanata dalla pace, non so più che cosa sia il bene. VAU.	17 Vau. And my soul is removed far off from peace, I have forgotten good things.
18 Ed io ho detto: « Svanì la mia ultima aspettativa e la mia speranza nel Signore ». ZAIN.	18 Vau. And I said: My end and my hope is perished from the Lord.
19 Ricordati della mia miseria, del mio eccesso, dell'assenzio e del fiele. ZAIN.	19 Zain. Remember my poverty, and transgression, the wormwood, and the gall.
20 Io vo continuamente ricordando, e si strugge dentro di me l'anima mia. ZAIN.	20 Zain. I will be mindful and remember, and my soul shall languish within me.
21 Ritorno sopra queste cose col mio cuore e per questo avrò speranza. HET.	21 Zain. These things I shall think over in my heart, therefore will I hope.
22 Per le misericordie del Signore non siamo stati annientati, chè non cesssaron mai le sue misericordie! HET.	22 Heth. The mercies of the Lord that we are not consumed: because his commiserations have not failed.
23 Si rinnovellano ogni mattina. Grande è la tua fedeltà! HET.	23 Heth. They are new every morning, great is thy faithfulness.
24 La mia porzione è il Signore — ha detto l'anima mia, — per questo lo aspetterò. TET.	24 Heth. The Lord is my portion, said my soul: therefore will I wait for him.
25 Il Signore è buono per chi spera in lui, per l'anima che lo cerca. TET.	25 Teth. The Lord is good to them that hope in him, to the soul that seeketh him.
26 E' bene aspettare in silenzio il soccorso di Dio. TET.	26 Teth. It is good to wait with silence for the salvation of God.
27 E' bene per l'uomo aver portato il giogo fin dalla sua adolescenza. IOD.	27 Teth. It is good for a man, when he hath borne the yoke from his youth.
28 Sederà solitario e taciturno, perchè se l'è tolto sopra di sè. IOD.	28 Jod. He shall sit solitary, and hold his peace: because he hath taken it up upon himself.
29 Porrà la sua bocca nella polvere senza perdere la speranza. IOD.	29 Jod. He shall put his mouth in the dust, if so be there may be hope.
30 Porgerà la guancia a chi lo percuote, e sarà saziato d'obbrobri. CAF.	30 Jod. He shall give his cheek to him that striketh him, he shall be filled with reproaches.
31 Ma il Signore non rigetterà per sempre; CAF.	31 Caph. For the Lord will not cast off for ever.
32 E se ci ha rigettati, avrà anche compassione secondo la moltitudine delle sue misericordie. CAF.	32 Caph. For if he hath cast off, he will also have mercy, according to the multitude of his mercies.
33 Perchè non è secondo il suo cuore umiliare e scacciare i figli degli uomini. LAMED.	33 Caph. For he hath not willingly afflicted, nor cast off the children of men.
34 Se si calpestano sotto i piedi tutti gli schiavi della terra. LAMED.	34 Lamed. To crush under his feet all the prisoners of the land,
35 Se si viola il diritto dell'uomo nel cospetto dell'Altissimo. LAMED.	35 Lamed. To turn aside the judgment of a man before the face of the most High,
36 Se si rovina un uomo nel suo giudizio, il Signore non lo sa? MEM.	36 Lamed. To destroy a man wrongfully in his judgment, the Lord hath not approved.
37 Chi è colui che dice che avvenga una cosa senza il comando del Signore? MEM.	37 Mem. Who is he that hath commanded a thing to be done, when the Lord commandeth it not?
38 Non è dalla bocca dell'Altissimo che verranno i beni e i mali? MEM.	38 Mem. Shall not both evil and good proceed out of the mouth of the Highest?
39 Che ha da lamentarsi l'uomo che vive, l'uomo, (del castigo) dei suoi peccati? NUN.	39 Mem. Why hath a living man murmured, man suffering for his sins?
40 Esaminiamo la nostra condotta, ricerchiamola, e torniamo al Signore. NUN.	40 Nun. Let us search our ways, and seek, and return to the Lord.
41 Colle mani inalziamo i nostri cuori al Signore nei cieli. NUN.	41 Nun. Let us lift up our hearts with our hands to the Lord in the heavens.
42 Noi abbiamo agito iniquamente, abbiamo provocato a sdegno, per questo tu sei stato inesorabile. SAMEC.	42 Nun. We have done wickedly, and provoked thee to wrath: therefore thou art inexorable.
43 Ti sei avvolto nell'ira, ci hai percossi, hai sterminato senza risparmiare. SAMEC.	43 Samech. Thou hast covered in thy wrath, and hast struck us: thou hast killed and hast not spared.
44 Ti sei posto davanti una nube, perchè non passi la preghiera. SAMEC.	44 Samech. Thou hast set a cloud before thee, that our prayer may not pass through.
45 Mi hai reso la spazzatura, il rifiuto in mezzo alle nazioni. FE.	45 Samech. Thou hast made me as an outcast, and refuse in the midst of the people.
46 Hanno spalancata sopra di noi la loro bocca tutti i nostri nemici. FE.	46 Phe. All our enemies have opened their mouths against us.
47 Per noi spavento e laccio, profezia e rovina. FE.	47 Phe. Prophecy is become to us a fear, and a snare, and destruction.
48 Gli occhi miei spargono (lacrime) a torrenti sopra la rovina della figlia del mio popolo. AIN.	48 Phe. My eye hath run down with streams of water, for the destruction of the daughter of my people.
49 L'occhio mio è afflitto e non ha pace, non avendo riposo. AIN.	49 Ain. My eye is afflicted, and hath not been quiet, because there was no rest:
50 Fino a che il Signore non volga lo sguardo e non rimiri dal cielo. AIN.	50 Ain. Till the Lord regarded and looked down from the heavens.
51 Il mio occhio ha rubato l'anima mia a causa di tutte le figlie della mia città. SADE.	51 Ain. My eye hath wasted my soul because of all the daughters of my city.
52 Mi han preso alla caccia come un uccello quelli che senza motivo son miei nemici; SADE.	52 Sade. My enemies have chased me and caught me like a bird, without cause.
53 Mi han fatto precipitare nella fossa ed hanno posta sopra di me la pietra. SADE.	53 Sade. My life is fallen into the pit, and they have laid a stone over me.
54 Le acque mi han coperto fin sopra il capo, ed io ho detto: « Son perduto! » COF.	54 Sade. Waters have flowed over my head: I said: I am cut off.
55 Ho invocato il tuo nome, o Signore, dal più profondo della fossa. COF.	55 Coph. I have called upon thy name, O Lord, from the lowest pit.
56 Tu hai sentita la mia voce, non chiuder le orecchie ai miei singulti, alle mie grida. COF.	56 Coph. Thou hast heard my voice: turn not away thy ear from my sighs, and cries.
57 Tu ti avvicinasti nel giorno in cui t'invocai, dicesti: « Non temere ». RES.	57 Coph. Thou drewest near in the day, when I called upon thee, thou saidst: Fear not.
58 Giudicasti in favore dell'anima mia, o salvatore della mia vita. RES.	58 Res. Thou hast judged, O Lord, the cause of my soul, thou the Redeemer of my life.
59 Tu hai veduto, o Signore, la loro iniquità contro di me, rendimi giustizia. RES.	59 Res. Thou hast seen, O Lord, their iniquity against me: judge thou my judgment.
60 Tu hai veduti tutti i loro furori, tutte le loro trame contro di me. SIN.	60 Res. Thou hast seen all their fury, and all their thoughts against me.
61 Tu hai sentito i loro oltraggi, o Signore, tutte le loro trame contro di me. SIN.	61 Sin. Thou hast heard their reproach, O Lord, all their imaginations against me.
62 E le parole dei miei avversari e quello che meditano contro di me tutto il giorno. SIN.	62 Sin. The lips of them that rise up against me: and their devices against me all the day.
63 Quando siedono, quando si alzano, guarda, io sono la loro canzone. TAU.	63 Sin. Behold their sitting down, and their rising up, I am their song.
64 Rendi loro il contraccambio, o Signore, secondo le opere delle loro mani. TAU.	64 Thau. Thou shalt render them a recompense, O Lord, according to the works of their hands.
65 Poni loro lo scudo del cuore, il tuo affanno. TAU.	65 Thau. Thou shalt give them a buckler of heart, thy labour.
66 Perseguitali nel tuo furore, sterminali di sotto ai cieli, o Signore.	66 Thau. Thou shalt persecute them in anger, and shalt destroy them from under the heavens, O Lord.
