1 Quanto è meglio correggere e non proibii di parlare a chi si confessa (in colpa), che covar lo sdegno!	1 There is the rebuke that is untimely, and there is the person who keeps quiet, and he is the shrewd one.
2 Un impudico eunuco disonorerà una vergine,	2 But how much better to rebuke than to fume!
3 così fa chi colla violenza rende iniquo giudizio.	3 The person who acknowledges a fault wards off punishment.
4 Quanto è bello nella correzione mostrar pentimento! Così eviterai il peccato volontario.	4 Like a eunuch trying to take a girl's virginity is someone who tries to impose justice by force.

9 La riuscita è un male per l'uomo senza ritegno, e il guadagno gli riesce a detrimento.	9 There is the person who finds misfortune a boon, and the piece of luck that turns to loss.

14 Il dono dello stolto non ti sarà utile, perchè egli ha sette occhi:	14 The gift of the stupid wil bring you no advantage, his eyes look for seven times as much in return.
15 darà poca roba e molti rimproveri, e, aperta la bocca, sputerà fuoco.	15 He gives little and reviles much, he opens his mouth like the town crier, he lends today and demandspayment tomorrow; he is a detestable fellow.
16 V'è chi oggi presta e domani richiede: tale persona si rende odiosa.	16 The fool will say, 'I have no friends, I get no gratitude for my good deeds;

23 V'è chi non può peccare per la miseria, ma nella sua inerzia è vivamente eccitato.	23 There is a person who out of false shame makes promises to a friend, and so makes an enemy fornothing.
24 V'è chi perde l'anima sua per la vergogna, e la perde per colpa di persona imprudente, e si perde per rispetto umano.	24 Lying is an ugly blot on anyone, and ever on the lips of the undisciplined.
25 V'è chi per umano rispetto promette all'amico, e ci guadagna di farselo gratuitamente nemico.	25 A thief is preferable to an inveterate liar, but both are heading for ruin.
26 Obbrobriosa macchia è nell'uomo la bugia, e sarà di continuo nella bocca dei maleducati.	26 Lying is an abominable habit, the liar's disgrace lasts for ever.
27 E' preferibile il ladro all'uomo che ha l'abitudine di mentire, ma l'uno e l'altro andranno in perdizione.	27 The wise gains advancement by words, the shrewd wins favour from the great.
28 Gli abituati a mentire son disonorati, e la loro infamia li accompagnerà sempre.	28 Whoever til s the soil wil have a full harvest, whoever wins favour from the great wil secure pardon foroffences.
29 Chi è saggio nel parlare si accresce il credito, e l'uomo prudente sarà accetto ai grandi.	29 Presents and gifts blind the eyes of the wise and stifle rebukes like a muzzle on the mouth.
30 Chi coltiva la sua terra farà alto il suo mucchio, chi opera con giustizia sarà esaltato, e chi piace ai grandi fuggirà l'iniquità.	30 Wisdom concealed, and treasure undiscovered, what use is either of these?
31 I regali e i doni accecano gli occhi dei giudici; come freno in bocca ne rattengono le correzioni.	31 Better one who conceals his fol y than one who conceals his wisdom.
32 La sapienza nascosta, il tesoro non visto, a che giovano l'una e l'altro?
33 E' migliore chi nasconde la sua stoltezza di chi tiene occulto il suo sapere.
