Giobbe 9

BIBBIA TINTORI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Giobbe rispose, dicendo:	1 Job spoke next. He said:
2 « Lo so bene che l'è così, e anche che l'uomo, messo a confronto con Dio, non può aver ragione.	2 Indeed, I know it is as you say: how could anyone claim to be upright before God?
3 Se volesse contendere con lui, non potrebbe rispondergli una volta su mille.	3 Anyone trying to argue matters with him, could not give him one answer in a thousand.
4 Egli è saggio di cuore, è ricco di potenza, e chi ebbe pace dopo avergli resistito?	4 Among the wisest and the hardiest, who then can successful y defy him?
5 Egli trasporta le montagne, nel suo furore le rovescia, senza che se ne avvedano;	5 He moves the mountains, though they do not know it; he throws them down when he is angry.
6 Scuote la terra dal suo posto, e ne tremano le colonne.	6 He shakes the earth, and moves it from its place, making al its pil ars tremble.
7 Comanda al sole ed ei non sorge, e chiude le stelle come sotto sigillo.	7 The sun, at his command, forbears to rise, and on the stars he sets a seal.
8 Egli solo stende i cieli, e cammina sui flutti del mare.	8 He and no other has stretched out the heavens and trampled on the back of the Sea.
9 Ha creato l'Orsa, Orione, le Pleiadi e i recessi del cielo australe.	9 He has made the Bear and Orion, the Pleiades and the Mansions of the South.

14 E chi son io, da rispondergli? Con quali mie parole potrei discutere con lui?	14 And here am I, proposing to defend myself and select my arguments against him!

21 Anche se fossi giusto, non lo saprebbe l'anima mia, e mi sarà di tedio la vita.	21 But am I innocent? I am no longer sure, and life itself I despise!
22 Questo solo io dico: Egli fa perire l'innocente e il reo.	22 It is al one, and hence I boldly say: he destroys innocent and guilty alike.
23 Or se Egli flagella, uccida subito, e non rida delle pene degli innocenti.	23 When a sudden deadly scourge descends, he laughs at the plight of the innocent.
24 La terra è in mano dell'empio. Egli mette una benda agli occhi dei suoi giudici. E chi è se non lui?	24 When a country falls into the power of the wicked, he veils the faces of its judges. Or if not he, whoelse?
25 I miei giorni passarono più veloci d'un corriere, son fuggiti senza vedere la felicità;	25 My days pass: more swiftly than a runner they flee away with never a glimpse of happiness,
26 Son passati come navi che portan frutta, come aquila che piomba sulla preda.	26 they skim past like a reed canoe, like an eagle swooping on its prey.
27 Anche se dico: Non parlerò più così, si altera la mia faccia tra gli strazi del dolore,	27 If I decide to stifle my complaining, change countenance, and wear a smiling face,
28 Torno a temere per ogni mia azione, sapendo che non la risparmi al peccatore.	28 fear seizes me at the thought of al my woes, for I know you do not regard me as innocent.
29 E se anche così son reo, a che affaticarmi invano?	29 And if I have done wrong, why should I put myself to useless trouble?

31 tu mi tingeresti di sozzura e le mie vesti m'avrebbero in orrore.	31 you wil only plunge me into the dung, til my clothes themselves recoil from me!
32 Infatti non avrò da rispondere a un uomo come me che possa con me e al par di me andar al giudizio:	32 For he is not human like me: impossible for me to answer him or appear alongside him in court.
33 non c'è chi possa riprendere l'uno e l'altro e metter la sua mano su tutti e due.	33 There is no arbiter between us, to lay his hand on both,
34 Ritiri Egli da me la sua verga, cessi di spaventarmi il suo terrore,	34 to stay his rod from me, or keep away his daunting terrors.
35 e allora gli parlerò senza averne paura; ma col timore non posso rispondere ».	35 Nonetheless, unafraid of him, I shal speak: since I do not see myself like that at al !
