BIBBIA CEI 2008	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Per amore del denaro molti peccano, chi cerca di arricchire volta lo sguardo.	1 Many have sinned for the sake of profit, one who hopes to be rich must turn a blind eye.
2 Fra le giunture delle pietre si conficca un piolo, tra la compera e la vendita s’insinua il peccato.	2 A peg wil stick in the joint between two stones, and sin wil wedge itself between sel ing and buying.
3 Se non ti afferri con forza al timore del Signore, la tua casa andrà presto in rovina.	3 Whoever does not firmly hold to the fear of the Lord, his house wil soon be overthrown.
4 Quando si scuote un setaccio restano i rifiuti; così quando un uomo discute, ne appaiono i difetti.	4 In a shaken sieve the rubbish is left behind, so too the defects of a person appear in speech.
5 I vasi del ceramista li mette a prova la fornace, così il modo di ragionare è il banco di prova per un uomo.	5 The kiln tests the work of the potter, the test of a person is in conversation.
6 Il frutto dimostra come è coltivato l’albero, così la parola rivela i pensieri del cuore.	6 The orchard where the tree grows is judged by its fruit, similarly words betray what a person feels.
7 Non lodare nessuno prima che abbia parlato, poiché questa è la prova degli uomini.	7 Do not praise anyone who has not yet spoken, since this is where people are tested.
8 Se cerchi la giustizia, la raggiungerai e te ne rivestirai come di un manto di gloria.	8 If you pursue virtue, you will attain it and put it on like a festal gown.
9 Gli uccelli sostano presso i loro simili, la verità ritorna a quelli che fanno cose giuste.	9 Birds consort with their kind, truth comes home to those who practise it.
10 Il leone insidia la preda, così il peccato coloro che fanno cose ingiuste.	10 The lion lies in wait for its prey, so does sin for those who do wrong.
11 Nel discorso del pio c’è sempre saggezza, ma lo stolto muta come la luna.	11 The conversation of the devout is wisdom at all times, but the fool is as changeable as the moon.
12 Tra gli insensati non perdere tempo, tra i saggi invece férmati a lungo.	12 When visiting stupid people, choose the right moment, but among the thoughtful take your time.
13 Il parlare degli stolti è un orrore, essi ridono tra i bagordi del peccato.	13 The conversation of fools is disgusting, raucous their laughter in their sinful pleasures.
14 Il linguaggio di chi giura spesso fa rizzare i capelli, e i loro litigi fanno turare gli orecchi.	14 The talk of hard-swearing people makes your hair stand on end, their brawling makes you stop yourears.
15 Spargimento di sangue è la rissa dei superbi, ed è penoso ascoltare le loro invettive.	15 A quarrel between the proud leads to bloodshed, and their insults are embarrassing to hear.
16 Chi svela i segreti perde l’altrui fiducia e non trova più un amico per il suo cuore.	16 A betrayer of secrets forfeits al trust and wil never find the kind of friend he wants.
17 Ama l’amico e sii a lui fedele, ma se hai svelato i suoi segreti, non corrergli dietro,	17 Be fond of a friend and keep faith with him, but if you have betrayed his secrets, do not go after himany more;
18 perché, come chi ha perduto uno che è morto, così tu hai perduto l’amicizia del tuo prossimo.	18 for, as one destroys a person by kil ing him, so you have kil ed your neighbour's friendship,
19 Come un uccello che ti sei fatto scappare di mano, così hai lasciato andare il tuo amico e non lo riprenderai.	19 and as you let a bird slip through your fingers, so you have let your friend go, and wil not catch him.
20 Non inseguirlo, perché ormai è lontano, è fuggito come una gazzella dal laccio.	20 Do not go after him -- he is far away, he has fled like a gazel e from the snare.
21 Perché si può fasciare una ferita e un’ingiuria si può riparare, ma chi ha svelato segreti non ha più speranza.	21 For a wound can be bandaged and abuse forgiven, but for the betrayer of a secret there is no hope.
22 Chi ammicca con l’occhio trama il male, ma chi lo conosce si allontana da lui.	22 Someone with a sly wink is plotting mischief, no one can dissuade him from it.
23 Davanti a te la sua bocca è dolce e ammira i tuoi discorsi, ma alle tue spalle cambierà il suo parlare e porrà inciampo alle tue parole.	23 Honey-tongued to your face, he is lost in admiration at your words; but behind your back he has otherthings to say, and turns your words into a stumbling-block.
24 Io odio molte cose, ma nessuna quanto lui, anche il Signore lo ha in odio.	24 I have found many things to hate, but nothing as much as him, and the Lord hates him too.
25 Chi scaglia un sasso in alto, se lo tira sulla testa, e un colpo a tradimento ferisce chi lo vibra.	25 Whoever throws a stone in the air, throws it on to his own head; a treacherous blow cuts both ways.
26 Chi scava una fossa vi cade dentro, chi tende un laccio vi resta preso.	26 The man who digs a pit falls into it, whoever sets a snare wil be caught by it.
27 Il male si ritorce su chi lo fa, egli non sa neppure da dove gli venga.	27 On anyone who does evil, evil wil recoil, without his knowing where it comes from.
28 Derisione e insulto per il superbo, la vendetta, come un leone, lo attende al varco.	28 Sarcasm and abuse are the mark of the arrogant, but vengeance lies in wait like a lion for such a one.
29 Sono presi al laccio quanti gioiscono per la caduta dei pii, il dolore li consumerà prima della loro morte.	29 The trap will close on all who rejoice in the downfal of the devout, and pain wil eat them up beforethey die.
30 Rancore e ira sono cose orribili, e il peccatore le porta dentro.	30 Resentment and anger, these are foul things too, and a sinner is a master at them both.
