Canticum graduum. Qui confidunt in Domino, sicut mons Sion : non commovebitur in æternum, qui habitat | 1 If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, now may Israel say; |
in Jerusalem. Montes in circuitu ejus ; et Dominus in circuitu populi sui, ex hoc nunc et usque in sæculum. | 2 If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, when men rose up against us: |
Quia non relinquet Dominus virgam peccatorum super sortem justorum : ut non extendant justi ad iniquitatem manus suas, | 3 Then they had swallowed us up quick, when their wrath was kindled against us: |
benefac, Domine, bonis, et rectis corde. | 4 Then the waters had overwhelmed us, the stream had gone over our soul: |
Declinantes autem in obligationes, adducet Dominus cum operantibus iniquitatem. Pax super Israël ! | 5 Then the proud waters had gone over our soul. |
Blessed be the LORD, who hath not given us as a prey to their teeth.
Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we are escaped.
Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth. |
