Siracide 17

1 Dio formò l'uomo dalla terra, lo creò a sua imagine,	1 God created man from the earth, and he made him according to his own image.
2 e di nuovo lo fa ritornare alla terra. E secondo la sua natura lo rivestì di forza.	2 And he returned him again to it, and he clothed him with virtue according to himself.
3 Assegnò a lui un numero di giorni, un dato tempo, e gli diede l'impero delle cose che sono sopra la terra.	3 He gave him the number and time of his days, and he gave him authority over all the things that are upon the earth.
4 Lo rese terribile a tutti gli animali, in modo che do minasse bestie e volatili.	4 He placed the fear of him over all flesh, and he had dominion over wild beasts and flying things.
5 Creò, traendolo dalla sua sostanza, un aiuto simile a lui, e diede loro consiglio, lingua, occhi, orecchi, diede loro un cuore per pensare, li riempì del sapere dell'intelletto.	5 He created from him a helper, similar to himself. He gave them counsel, and language, and sight, and hearing, and a heart, in order to think. And he filled them with the discipline of understanding.
6 Creò in essi la scienza dello spirito, riempì il loro cuore di senno, e fece loro conoscere il bene e il male.	6 He created within them the knowledge of the spirit. He filled their heart with understanding, and he showed them both good and evil.
7 Pose il suo occhio sopra i loro cuori, per mostrar loro le grandezze delle sue opere,	7 He set his eye upon their hearts, to reveal to them the greatness of his works,
8 affinchè essi dian lode al suo nome santo, e lo glorifichino nelle sue maraviglie, e raccontino le grandezze delle sue opere.	8 so that they might highly praise the name of sanctification, and give glory to his wonders, so that they might declare the greatness of his works.
9 Di più diede loro la scienza, e, come retaggio, la legge della vita.	9 In addition, he gave them discipline and the law of life, as their inheritance.
10 Stabilì con essi un patto eterno, e fece loro conoscere la sua giustizia e i suoi comandamenti.	10 He established an eternal covenant with them, and he revealed to them his justice and judgments.
11 I loro occhi videro le grandezze della sua gloria e la maestà della sua voce ferì le loro orecchie. Egli disse loro: « Guardatevi da ogni iniquità ».	11 And their eye saw the greatness of his honor, and their ears heard the honor of his voice, and he said to them: “Beware of all iniquity.”
12 E comandò a ciascuno di aver cura del suo prossimo.	12 And he commanded each one concerning his neighbor.
13 Gli andamenti degli uomini gli stanno sempre davanti: essi non possono essere nascosti agli occhi di lui.	13 Their ways are always in his sight; they are not hidden from his eyes.
14 Ad ogni nazione assegnò un capo;	14 Over each and every people, he has appointed a ruler.
15 ma Israele è chiaramente la porzione del Signore.	15 And Israel was made to be the manifest portion of God.
16 Tutte le loro azioni sono come il sole al cospetto di Dio, e gli occhi di lui sono fìssi continuamente sopra i loro andamenti.	16 And in the sight of God, all their works are like the sun. And his eyes, without ceasing, inspect their ways.
17 La sua alleanza non è stata nascosta per le loro iniquità, e tutte le loro iniquità sono alla presenza del Signore.	17 The covenants are not hidden by their iniquity, and all their iniquities are in the sight of God.
18 L'elemosina dell'uomo è per lui come un sigillo; egli terrà conto dell'opera buona dell'uomo come della pupilla del suo occhio.	18 The almsgiving of a man is like a seal upon him, which will guard the grace of a man like the pupil of an eye.
19 E finalmente si leverà (in giudizio), e darà il meritato a ciascuno in particolare e li farà ritornare nel profondo della terra.	19 And afterward, it will rise up and repay them their reward, each one upon his head, and it will return to the hidden places of the earth.
20 Ma ai penitenti dona la via della giustizia; non lascia di sostenere i deboli, ed ha destinato ad essi il retaggio della verità.	20 Now, to the repentant, he has given the way of justice, and he has strengthened those lacking in patience, and he has fastened them to a destiny of truth.
21 Torna al Signore, e lascia i tuoi peccati.	21 Convert to the Lord, and relinquish your sins.
22 Prega dinanzi al Signore e diminuisci le occasioni di cadere.	22 Make supplication before the face of the Lord, and diminish your offenses.
23 Ritorna al Signore, e volgi le spalle all'ingiustizia, ed abbi sommamente in odio ogni atto esecrando.	23 Return to the Lord, and turn away from your injustice, and have immense hatred for abomination.
24 Conosci i comandamenti e i giudizi di Dio, e sta costante nella sorte che t'è proposta e nel pregare l'Altissimo Dio.	24 And acknowledge the justices and judgments of God, and stand firm in the circumstances set before you and in prayer to the most high God.
25 Entra a parte del secolo santo con quelli che vivono e dànno gloria a Dio.	25 Go to the side of the holy generation, to those who live in order to give praise to God.
26 Non ti fermare nell'errore degli empi. Dà lode a Dio avanti di morire: se vien dal morto, come dal niente, la lode è perduta.	26 You should not linger in the error of the impious; confess before death. Confession perishes from the dead as if it were nothing.
27 Da vivo lo glorificherai, da vivo e da sano lo glorificherai, e darai lode a Dio e ti glorierai delle sue misericordie.	27 Confess while living; you should give thanks while you are still alive and healthy. And you should praise God and glory in his compassion.
28 Quanto è mai grande la misericordia del Signore, e la sua benegnità verso quelli che tornano a lui!	28 How great is the mercy of the Lord, and his forgiveness, for those who convert to him!
29 Perchè non tutte le cose possono essere negli uomini, e non è immortale il figlio dell'uomo, e si diletta nella vanità e nella malizia.	29 For not all things can be in men, because the son of man is not immortal, and because they are pleased by the emptiness of malice.
30 Che v'ha di più luminoso del sole? Eppure s'ecelissa. E che v'ha di peggio dei pensieri della carne e del sangue? Saran puniti.	30 What is brighter than the sun? Yet this will fail. Or what is more wicked than that which flesh and blood has invented? And this will be reproved.
31 Egli contempla l'armata degli alti cieli, e gli uomini tutti son terra e cenere.	31 He beholds the power of the heights of heaven. And all men are earth and ashes.
