Siracide 19

BIBBIA RICCIOTTI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 - Un operaio ubriacone non diventerà mai ricco, e chi disprezzerà il poco, andrà tra breve in rovina.	1 A drunken workman wil never grow rich, and one who makes light of small matters will gradual y sink.
2 Il vino e le donne fanno apostatare i saggi e condannano i sensati,	2 Wine and women corrupt intel igent men, the customer of whores loses al sense of shame.
3 e chi s'accoppia alle sgualdrine è un ribaldo. Putredine e vermi s'impossesseranno di lui, e sarà portato come un grande esempio, e sarà tolta via l'anima sua [temeraria].	3 Grubs and worms wil have him as their legacy, and the man who knows no shame will lose his life.
4 Chi subito si fida, è leggero di cuore e ne scapiterà, e chi pecca [così] contro l'anima sua, sarà disprezzato.	4 Being too ready to trust shows shal owness of mind, and sinning harms the sinner.
5 Chi gode dell'iniquità, sarà infamato, e chi odia la correzione avrà abbreviata la vita: ma chi odia la loquacità estingue la malizia.	5 Taking pleasure in evil earns condemnation;
6 Chi pecca contro se stesso, se ne pentirà, e chi trova piacere nelle malizia, sarà infamato.	6 by hating gossip one avoids evil.
7 Non ripetere una parola cattiva e dura, e danno non avrai.	7 Never repeat what you are told and you wil come to no harm;
8 Nè all'amico nè al nemico non esporre il tuo sentimento e se hai una colpa, non la svelare.	8 whether to friend or foe, do not talk about it, unless it would be sinful not to, do not reveal it;
9 Perchè quegli ti ascolterà e starà in guardia di fronte a te, e simulando giustificare il tuo fallo, ti odierà, e ti starà sempre alle calcagna.	9 you would be heard out, then mistrusted, and in due course you would be hated.
10 Hai udito una parola contro il tuo prossimo? muoia in te: sta' tranquillo, non ti farà crepare.	10 Have you heard something? Let it die with you. Courage! It wil not burst you!
11 [Ma] per una parola è nelle doglie lo stolto, come geme [una donna] nel parto d'un bambino.	11 A fool wil suffer birthpangs over a piece of news, like a woman labouring with child.
12 Quale una freccia confitta nella coscia carnosa, tale è una parola nel cuore dello stolto.	12 Like an arrow stuck in the flesh of the thigh, so is a piece of news inside a fool.
13 Ammonisci l'amico, [nella speranza] che non abbia fatto [ciò di cui è accusato]; e se l'ha fatto, perchè non torni a farlo. Ammonisci l'amico [nella speranza] che non abbia detto [ciò di cui è accusato]; e se l'ha detto, perchè non lo ripeta.	13 Question your friend, he may have done nothing at al ; and if he has done anything, he wil not do itagain.
14 Ammonisci l'amico, perchè frequente è la calunnia;	14 Question your neighbour, he may have said nothing at al ; and if he has said anything, he wil not sayit again.
15 e non credere ad ogni ciarla. C'è chi sdrucciola con la lingua, ma non con intenzione:	15 Question your friend, for slander is very common, do not believe al you hear.
16 chi invero non ha peccato con la sua lingua? Ammonisci il prossimo, prima d'usar minacce,	16 People sometimes make a slip, without meaning what they say; and which of us has never sinned byspeech?
17 e fa' posto al timor dell'Altissimo.	17 Question your neighbour before you threaten him, and defer to the Law of the Most High.
18 Ogni sapienza è timor del Signore e in essa sta il temere Iddio, e in ogni sapienza è l'adempimento della legge.	18
19 La sapienza non è perizia nel malfare, e il consiglio dei peccatori non è la prudenza.	19
20 C'è una furbizia ch'è insieme abominazione, e c'è lo sciocco a cui manca [solo un po' di] sapienza.	20 Wisdom consists entirely in fearing the Lord, and wisdom is entirely constituted by the fulfil ing of theLaw.
21 Meglio l'uomo scarso di sapienza e povero d'intelligenza il quale teme [Dio], che colui che abbonda in intelligenza e trasgredisce la legge dell'Altissimo.	21
22 è una scaltrezza sicura, ma al tempo stesso ingiusta,	22 Being learned in evil, however, is not wisdom, there is no prudence in the advice of sinners.
23 e c'è chi riesce con la parola, [pur] esponendo il vero. C'è chi maliziosamente s'abbassa, e le sue viscere sono piene d'inganno!	23 There is a cleverness that is detestable; whoever has no wisdom is a fool.
24 E s'abbassa all'eccesso con grande umiltà, e china il volto e fa il mezzo sordo, e quando non è osservato, passa avanti.	24 Better be short of sense and ful of fear, than abound in shrewdness and violate the Law.
25 E se per mancanza di forze è impedito di peccare, non appena troverà l'occasione di far del male, farà del male.	25 There is a wickedness which is scrupulous but nonetheless dishonest, and there are those whomisuse kindness to win their case.
26 Dall'aspetto si conosce l'uomo, e dal come una persona si presenta, si riconosce il saggio.	26 There is the person who wil walk bowed down with grief, when inwardly this is nothing but deceit:
27 Il vestire del corpo e il riso de' denti, e il camminar d'un uomo dan conto di lui.	27 he hides his face and pretends to be deaf, if he is not unmasked, he wil take advantage of you.
28 C'è una correzione falsa [quella fatta] nell'ira da un uomo che oltraggia, e un giudizio che non è provato esser buono; e c'è chi tace ed è insieme prudente.	28 There is the person who is prevented from sinning by lack of strength, yet he wil do wrong when hegets the chance.
	29 You can tel a person by his appearance, you can tell a thinker by the look on his face.
	30 The way a person dresses, the way he laughs, the way he walks, tel you what he is.
