BIBBIA RICCIOTTI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 - Alleluia! Celebrate il Signore, perch'egli è buono, perchè in eterno sta la sua grazia!	1 Al eluia! Give thanks to Yahweh, for he is good, his faithful love is everlasting!
2 Dican [così] i redenti dal Signore, ch'egli ha redento dalla mano del nemico, e da [tutte] le regioni gli ha raccolti,	2 Who can recount al Yahweh's triumphs, who can ful y voice his praise?
3 dall'oriente e dall'occidente, dal settentrione e dal mare.	3 How blessed are those who keep to what is just, whose conduct is always upright!
4 Erravan nella solitudine, nel deserto, la via d'una città dove abitare non trovavano.	4 Remember me, Yahweh, in your love for your people. Come near to me with your saving power,
5 Affamati e assetati, l'anima loro veniva meno in essi.	5 let me share the happiness of your chosen ones, let me share the joy of your people, the pride ofyour heritage.
6 E gridarono al Signore nella loro tribolazione, e dalle angustie loro gli strappò.	6 Like our ancestors, we have sinned, we have acted wickedly, guiltily;
7 E li menò per la retta via, perchè giungessero a una città dove abitare.	7 our ancestors in Egypt never grasped the meaning of your wonders. They did not bear in mind yourcountless acts of love, at the Sea of Reeds they defied the Most High;
8 Celebrino il Signore [per] le sue misericordie e [per] i suoi portenti a pro dei figliuoli degli uomini!	8 but for the sake of his name he saved them, to make known his mighty power.
9 Perchè egli ha saziato l'anima assetata, e l'anima affamata ha ricolma di beni.	9 At his rebuke the Sea of Reeds dried up, he let them pass through the deep as though it were desert,
10 Sedevan nelle tenebre e all'ombra della morte, prigionieri nella miseria e ne' ferri;	10 so he saved them from their opponents' clutches, rescued them from the clutches of their enemies.
11 perchè s'eran ribellati agli ordini di Dioe il disegno dell'Altissimo avevan sdegnato.	11 The waters enveloped their enemies, not one of whom was left.
12 E fu umiliato ne' travagli il cuor loro, furono affranti, nè ci fu chi li soccorresse.	12 Then they believed what he had said, and sang his praises.
13 E gridarono al Signore nella loro tribolazione, e dalle angustie loro li liberò.	13 But they soon forgot his achievements, they did not even wait for his plans;
14 E li trasse fuori dalle tenebre e dall'ombra della morte e spezzò le loro catene.	14 they were overwhelmed with greed in the wastelands, in the solitary wastes they challenged God.
15 Celebrino il Signore [per] le sue misericordie e [per] i suoi portenti a pro dei figliuoli degli uomini!	15 He gave them al they asked for, but struck them with a deep wasting sickness;
16 Perchè egli ha infrante le porte di bronzo, e i chiavistelli di ferro ha spezzato.	16 in the camp they grew jealous of Moses, and of Aaron, Yahweh's holy one.
17 Stolti, che a seconda della loro via iniquae delle loro ingiustizie eran straziati.	17 The earth opened and swal owed up Dathan, closed in on Abiram's faction;
18 Ogni cibo aveva a nausea l'anima loroed eran vicini già alle porte della morte.	18 fire flamed out against their faction, the renegades were engulfed in flames.
19 E gridarono al Signore nella loro tribolazione, e dalle angustie loro li liberò.	19 At Horeb they made a calf, bowed low before cast metal;
20 Mandò la sua parola e li guarì, e gli strappò dalle consunzioni loro.	20 they exchanged their glory for the image of a grass-eating bull.
21 Celebrino il Signore [per] le sue misericordie e [per] i suoi portenti a pro dei figliuoli degli uomini!	21 They forgot the God who was saving them, who had done great deeds in Egypt,
22 E offrano un sacrifizio di lode e raccontino le sue opere con giubilo.	22 such wonders in the land of Ham, such awesome deeds at the Sea of Reeds.
23 Solcando il mare sulle navi, facendo traffico sulle molte acque,	23 He thought of putting an end to them, had not Moses, his chosen one, taken a stand in the breachand confronted him, to turn his anger away from destroying them.
24 essi videro le opere del Signore e i suoi portenti nell'[abisso] profondo!	24 They counted a desirable land for nothing, they put no trust in his promise;
25 E' parlò, e infuriò un vento turbinoso, e si sollevarono i flutti del mare.	25 they stayed in their tents and grumbled, they would not listen to Yahweh's voice.
26 Salivano sino al cielo e si sprofondavan giù nell'abisso, e l'anima loro nell'affanno si struggeva.	26 So he lifted his hand against them, to strike them down in the desert,
27 Vacillavano e barcollavano come un ubriaco, e tutta la perizia loro era sfumata.	27 to strike down their descendants among the nations, to scatter them al over the world.
28 E gridarono al Signore nella loro tribolazione, e dalle angustie loro li trasse fuori.	28 They committed themselves to serve Baal-Peor, and ate sacrifices made to lifeless gods.
29 E ridusse il turbine a un lieve venticello, e si chetarono i flutti del mare.	29 They so provoked him by their actions that a plague broke out among them.
30 E si rallegraron quelli che si fosser chetati, ed e' li condusse al porto del loro desiderio.	30 Then up stood Phinehas to intervene, and the plague was checked;
31 Celebrino il Signore [per] le sue misericordie e [per] i suoi portenti a pro dei figliuoli degli uomini!	31 for this he is the example of uprightness, from age to age for ever.
32 E l'esaltino nell'adunanza del popoloe nel consesso degli anziani lo lodino.	32 At the waters of Meribah they so angered Yahweh, that Moses suffered on their account,
33 Egli mutò i fiumi in desertoe le fonti d'acque in assetata steppa,	33 for they had embittered his spirit, and he spoke without due thought.
34 [e] la terra fruttifera in una salina, per la malvagità de' suoi abitanti.	34 They did not destroy the nations, as Yahweh had told them to do,
35 Mutò il deserto in uno stagno d'acque, e la terra arida in fonti d'acque.	35 but intermarried with them, and adopted their ways.
36 E stabilì colà gli affamati, e vi fondarono una città da abitare.	36 They worshipped those nations' false gods, til they found themselves entrapped,
37 E seminarono campi e piantaron vigne, e n'ebber frutto di raccolta.	37 and sacrificed their own sons and their daughters to demons.
38 E li benedisse e si moltiplicarono oltremodo, e i loro bestiami non scemò.	38 Innocent blood they shed, the blood of their sons and daughters; offering them to the idols ofCanaan, they pol uted the country with blood.
39 [Quando poi] si ridussero a pochi e furon tormentatida tribolazione di mali e dal dolore,	39 They defiled themselves by such actions, their behaviour was that of a harlot.
40 e' riversò il dispregio sui grandi [che gli opprimevano] e li fece errare per la solitudine, là dove non c'è strada,	40 Yahweh's anger blazed out at his people, his own heritage fil ed him with disgust.
41 e aiutò il povero [a risollevarsi] dalla miseriae fece [numerose] come greggi le famiglie.	41 He handed them over to the nations, and their opponents became their masters;
42 Vedranno [ciò] i retti e si rallegrerannoe ogni iniquità si tapperà la bocca.	42 their enemies lorded it over them, crushing them under their rule.
43 Chi è savio? ch'e' badi a queste cose, e intenda le misericordie del Signore!	43 Time and again he rescued them, but they stil defied him deliberately, and sank ever deeper in theirguilt;
	44 even so he took pity on their distress, as soon as he heard them cry out.
	45 Bearing his covenant with them in mind, he relented in his boundless and faithful love;
	46 he ensured that they received compassion, in their treatment by al their captors.
	47 Save us, Yahweh our God, gather us from among the nations, that we may give thanks to your holyname, and may glory in praising you.
	48 Blessed be Yahweh, the God of Israel, from all eternity and for ever! Let all the people say, 'Amen'.
