1 Di tre cose si compiace l’anima mia, ed esse sono gradite al Signore e agli uomini: concordia di fratelli, amicizia tra vicini, moglie e marito che vivono in piena armonia.	1 My soul takes pleasure in three things, and they are beautiful in the sight of the Lord and of men; agreement between brothers, friendship between neighbors, and a wife and a husband who live in harmony.
2 Tre tipi di persone detesta l’anima mia, la loro vita è per me un grande orrore: il povero superbo, il ricco bugiardo, il vecchio adultero privo di senno.	2 My soul hates three kinds of men, and I am greatly offended at their life: a beggar who is proud, a rich man who is a liar, and an adulterous old man who lacks good sense.
3 Se non hai raccolto in gioventù, che cosa vuoi trovare nella vecchiaia?	3 You have gathered nothing in your youth; how then can you find anything in your old age?
4 Quanto s’addice il giudicare ai capelli bianchi e agli anziani il saper dare consigli!	4 What an attractive thing is judgment in gray-haired men, and for the aged to possess good counsel!
5 Quanto s’addice la sapienza agli anziani, il discernimento e il consiglio alle persone onorate!	5 How attractive is wisdom in the aged, and understanding and counsel in honorable men!
6 Corona dei vecchi è un’esperienza molteplice, loro vanto è temere il Signore.	6 Rich experience is the crown of the aged, and their boast is the fear of the Lord.
7 Nove situazioni ritengo felici nel mio cuore, la decima la dirò con parole: un uomo allietato dai figli, chi vede da vivo la caduta dei suoi nemici;	7 With nine thoughts I have gladdened my heart, and a tenth I shall tell with my tongue: a man rejoicing in his children; a man who lives to see the downfall of his foes;
8 felice chi vive con una moglie assennata, chi non ara con il bue e l’asino insieme, chi non ha peccato con la sua lingua, chi non ha servito a uno indegno di lui;	8 happy is he who lives with an intelligent wife, and he who has not made a slip with his tongue, and he who has not served a man inferior to himself;
9 felice chi ha trovato la prudenza, chi parla a gente che l’ascolta;	9 happy is he who has gained good sense, and he who speaks to attentive listeners.
10 quanto è grande chi ha trovato la sapienza, ma nessuno supera chi teme il Signore!	10 How great is he who has gained wisdom! But there is no one superior to him who fears the Lord.
11 Il timore del Signore vale più di ogni cosa; chi lo possiede a chi potrà essere paragonato?	11 The fear of the Lord surpasses everything; to whom shall be likened the one who holds it fast?
12 Il timore del Signore è inizio di amore per lui, la fede è inizio di adesione a lui.	12 .
13 Qualunque ferita, ma non la ferita del cuore, qualunque malvagità, ma non la malvagità di una donna;	13 Any wound, but not a wound of the heart! Any wickedness, but not the wickedness of a wife!
14 qualunque sventura, ma non quella causata da persone che odiano, qualunque vendetta, ma non la vendetta dei nemici.	14 Any attack, but not an attack from those who hate! And any vengeance, but not the vengeance of enemies!
15 Non c’è veleno peggiore del veleno di un serpente, non c’è ira peggiore dell’ira di una donna.	15 There is no venom worse than a snake's venom, and no wrath worse than an enemy's wrath.
16 Preferirei abitare con un leone e con un drago piuttosto che abitare con una donna malvagia.	16 I would rather dwell with a lion and a dragon than dwell with an evil wife.
17 La malvagità di una donna ne àltera l’aspetto, rende il suo volto tetro come quello di un orso.	17 The wickedness of a wife changes her appearance, and darkens her face like that of a bear.
18 Suo marito siede in mezzo ai suoi vicini e senza volerlo geme amaramente.	18 Her husband takes his meals among the neighbors, and he cannot help sighing bitterly.
19 Ogni malizia è nulla di fronte alla malizia di una donna, possa piombarle addosso la sorte del peccatore!	19 Any iniquity is insignificant compared to a wife's iniquity; may a sinner's lot befall her!
20 Come una salita sabbiosa per i piedi di un vecchio, tale la donna linguacciuta per un uomo pacifico.	20 A sandy ascent for the feet of the aged-- such is a garrulous wife for a quiet husband.
21 Non soccombere al fascino di una donna, per una donna non ardere di passione.	21 Do not be ensnared by a woman's beauty, and do not desire a woman for her possessions.
22 Motivo di sdegno, di rimprovero e di grande disprezzo è una donna che mantiene il proprio marito.	22 There is wrath and impudence and great disgrace when a wife supports her husband.
23 Animo abbattuto e volto triste e ferita al cuore è una donna malvagia; mani inerti e ginocchia infiacchite, tale è colei che non rende felice il proprio marito.	23 A dejected mind, a gloomy face, and a wounded heart are caused by an evil wife. Drooping hands and weak knees are caused by the wife who does not make her husband happy.
24 Dalla donna ha inizio il peccato e per causa sua tutti moriamo.	24 From a woman sin had its beginning, and because of her we all die.
25 Non dare all’acqua via d’uscita né libertà di parlare a una donna malvagia.	25 Allow no outlet to water, and no boldness of speech in an evil wife.
26 Se non cammina al cenno della tua mano, separala dalla tua carne.	26 If she does not go as you direct, separate her from yourself.
