1 Ed avvenne, che il settimo anno, il quinto mese, ai dieci del mese, venner alcuni dei seniori d'Israele per interrogare il Signore, e si posero a sedere davanti a me.	1 And it happened that, in the seventh year, in the fifth month, on the tenth of the month, men from the elders of Israel arrived, so that they might inquire of the Lord, and they sat before me.
2 E il Signore parlommi, dicendo:	2 And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:
3 Figliuolo dell'uomo parla a' seniori d'Israele, e dirai loro: Queste cose dice il Signore Dio: Siete voi forse venuti per interrogarmi? Io giuro, che non darò a voi risposta, dice il Signore Dio.	3 “Son of man, speak to the elders of Israel, and you shall say to them: Thus says the Lord God: Have you arrived in order to inquire of me? As I live, I will not answer you, says the Lord God.
4 Fai tu giudizio di costoro, o figliuolo dell'uomo, fai tu giudizio? Fa lor sapere le abbominazioni de' padri loro.	4 If you judge them, if you judge, O son of man, reveal to them the abominations of their fathers.
5 E dirai loro: Queste cose dice il Signore Dio: Il dì, in cui io elessi Israele, e stesi la mano mia in favore della casa di Giacobbe, e apparii ad essi nella terra d'Egitto, e stesi in favor loro la mia mano, dicendo: Io il Signore Dio vostro;	5 And you shall say to them: Thus says the Lord God: In the day when I chose Israel, and I lifted up my hand on behalf of the stock of the house of Jacob, and I appeared to them in the land of Egypt, and I lifted up my hand on their behalf, saying, ‘I am the Lord your God,’
6 In quel dì io stesi la mano mia per trarli dalla terra di Egitto a una terra preparata da me per essi, che scorrea latte, e miele, ed eccellente tra tutte le terre.	6 in that day, I lifted up my hand for their sake, so that I would lead them away from the land of Egypt, into a land which I had provided for them, flowing with milk and honey, which was singular among all lands.
7 E io dissi loro: Getti via ciascheduno quel, che affascina i suoi occhi, e non vi contaminate co' simulacri dell'Egitto. Io Signore Dio vostro.	7 And I said to them: ‘Let each one cast away the offenses of his eyes, and do not choose to defile yourselves with the idols of Egypt. I am the Lord your God.’
8 Ma ei m'irritarono, e non vollero ascoltar me, e ciascuno di essi non gettò via quel, che contaminava i loro occhi, e non abbandonaron gl'idoli dell'Egitto, e io determinai di spandere sopra di essi il mio sdegno, e di sfogare sopra di essi l'ira mia in mezzo alla terra d'Egitto.	8 But they provoked me, and they were not willing to listen to me. Each one of them did not cast away the abominations of his eyes, nor did they leave behind the idols of Egypt. And so, I said that I would pour out my indignation upon them, and fulfill my wrath against them, in the midst of the land of Egypt.
9 Ma feci questo di trarli fuora dalla terra d'Egitto, affinchè non restasse vilipeso il nome mio presso le genti, tralle quali ei viveano, e in mezzo alle quali io mi feci ad essi vedere.	9 But I acted for the sake of my name, so that it would not be violated in the sight of the Gentiles, in the midst of whom they were, and among whom I appeared to them, so that I might lead them away from the land of Egypt.
10 Li feci adunque uscire dalla terra d'Egitto, e li condussi al deserto.	10 Therefore, I cast them out of the land of Egypt, and I led them away into the desert.
11 E diedi loro i miei comandamenti, e le mie leggi, osservando le quali l'uomo avrà vita per esse.	11 And I gave them my precepts, and I revealed to them my judgments, which, if a man does them, he shall live by them.
12 Diedi di più ad essi anche i miei sabati, perchè fossero un segno tra me, e loro, e conoscessero, che io sono il Signore, che li santifica.	12 Moreover, I also gave to them my Sabbaths, so that these would be a sign between me and them, and so that they would know that I am the Lord, who sanctifies them.
13 Ma la casa d'Israele mi provocò ad ira nel deserto, non camminarono ne' miei comandamenti, e rigettarono le mie leggi, nelle quali ha vita chi le osserva, e violarono grandemente i miei sabati. Determinai perciò di spandere il furor mio sopra di loro nel deserto, e di consumarli.	13 But the house of Israel provoked me in the desert. They did not walk in my precepts, and they cast aside my judgments, which, if a man does them, he shall live by them. And they grievously violated my Sabbaths. Therefore, I said that I would pour out my fury upon them in the desert, and that I would consume them.
14 E per amore del nome mio noi feci, affinchè vilipeso non fosse davanti alle nazioni, di mezzo alle quali, elle stesse veggenti, io li trassi.	14 But I acted for the sake of my name, lest it be violated before the Gentiles, from whom I cast them out, in their sight.
15 Io adunque giurai loro nel deserto,che non gli avrei introdotti nella terra,che io diedi ad essi, terra, che scorre latte, e miele, distinta sopra tutte le terre:	15 And so I lifted up my hand over them in the desert, so as not to lead them into the land that I had given to them, flowing with milk and honey, the foremost of all lands.
16 Perchè rigettarono le mie leggi, e non camminarono ne' miei comandamenti, e violarono i miei sabati: conciossiachè dietro agl'idoli andava il cuor loro.	16 For they cast aside my judgments, and they did not walk in my precepts, and they violated my Sabbaths. For their heart went after idols.
17 E s'impietosì sopra di essi l'occhio mio, perch' io non gli uccidessi; e non gli sterminai nel deserto.	17 Yet my eye was lenient concerning them, so that I did not utterly destroy them, nor did I consume them in the desert.
18 Ma io dissi a' loro figliuoli nella solitudine: Non andate dietro agl'insegnamenti de' padri vostri, e non seguite i loro andamenti, e non vi contaminate coi loro idoli.	18 Then I said to their sons in the wilderness: ‘Do not choose to advance by the precepts of your fathers, nor should you observe their judgments. And do not be defiled by their idols.
19 Io il Signore Dio vostro: camminate ne' miei comandamenti, osservatele mie leggi, e mettetele in pratica:	19 I am the Lord your God. Walk in my precepts, and observe my judgments, and accomplish them.
20 E santificate i miei sabati, affin chè siano segno tra me, e voi, e conosciate, ch'io sono il Signore Dio vostro.	20 And sanctify my Sabbaths, so that these may be a sign between me and you, and so that you may know that I am the Lord your God.’
21 Ma i lor figliuoli mi esacerbarono, non camminaron ne' miei precetti, e non osservarono le mie leggi, né fecero quelle cose, le quali facendo l'uomo, ha vita per esse, e violarono i miei sabati; e minacciai di spandere il furor mio sopra di loro, e sfogar l'ira mia contro di essi nel deserto.	21 But their sons provoked me. They did not walk in my precepts. And they did not observe my judgments, so as to do them; for if a man does them, he shall live by them. And they violated my Sabbaths. And so, I threatened that I would pour out my fury upon them, and that I would fulfill my wrath among them in the desert.
22 Ma rattenni la mano mia, e nol feci per amor del mio nome, affinchè profanato non fosse davanti alle nazioni, di mezzo alle quali, elle stesse veggenti, io li trassi.	22 But I turned aside my hand, and I acted for the sake of my name, so that it would not be violated before the Gentiles, from whom I cast them out, before their eyes.
23 Di bel nuovo nella solitudine alzai la mia mano contro di loro, giurai di spargerli tralle nazioni, e di trasportargli in questa, e in quella terra,	23 Again, I lifted up my hand against them, in the wilderness, so that I would disperse them among the nations, and scatter them among the lands.
24 Perchè non aveano osservate le mie leggi, e aveano rigettati i miei comandamenti, e violati i miei sabati, ed avean volti gli sguardi agl'idoli de'padri loro.	24 For they had not accomplished my judgments, and they had rejected my precepts, and they had violated my Sabbaths. And their eyes had been after the idols of their fathers.
25 Io adunque lor diedi comandamenti non buoni, e leggi, nelle quali non avran vita.	25 Therefore, I also gave them precepts that were not good, and judgments by which they shall not live.
26 E gli rendetti immondi nelle loro obblazioni, mentre pe' loro delitti offerivano i primogeniti, e conosceran, ch'io sono il Signore.	26 And I defiled them by their own gifts, when they offered everything that opened the womb, because of their offenses. And they shall know that I am the Lord.
27 Per la qual cosa parla tu, o figliuolo dell'uomo, alla casa d'Israele, e dirai loro: Queste cose dice il Signore Dio: In un altro punto ancora mi bestemmiarono i padri vostri, disonorandomi con ispregio;	27 For this reason, son of man, speak to the house of Israel, and you shall say to them: Thus says the Lord God. Yet also in this did your fathers blaspheme me, after they had spurned and despised me,
28 Perocché avendogli introdotti nella terra, che io con giuramento avea promesso di dare ad essi, adocchiarono ogni colle elevato, e ogni ombrosa pianta, e andarono ad immolarvi le loro vittime, e ivi offerirono lo smacco della loro obblazione, e vi bruciarono soavi odori, e fecero lor libagioni.	28 though I had led them into the land, about which I lifted up my hand, so that I might give it to them: They saw every lofty hill and every leafy tree, and there they immolated their victims, and there they presented the provocation of their oblations, and there they stationed their sweet fragrances, and poured out their libations.
29 Ed io dissi loro: Che è egli mai quel luogo eccelso, dove voi andate? E il nome di Eccelso è rimaso fino a questo di.	29 And I said to them, ‘What is exalted about the place to which you go?’ And yet its name is called ‘Exalted,’ even to this day.
30 Per questo dì tu alla casa d'Israele: Queste cose dice il Signore Dio: Voi certamente vi contaminate, battendo la strada de' padri vostri, e nella fornicazione, in cui essi caddero, voi cadete,	30 Because of this, say to the house of Israel: Thus says the Lord God: Certainly, you are defiled by the way of your fathers, and you have fornicated after their stumbling blocks.
31 E coll'offerta de' vostri doni, facendo passar pel fuoco i vostri figliuoli vi contaminate fino a quest' oggi in grazia di tutti i vostri idoli: e io darò a voi risposta, o casa d'Israele? Io giuro, dice il Signore Dio, che non vi darò risposta.	31 And you are being defiled by all of your idols, even to this day, by the oblation of your gifts, when you lead your sons through the fire. And should I respond to you, O house of Israel? As I live, says the Lord God, I will not answer you.
32 E non avrà effetto il pensiero di vostra mente, che dice: Noi saremo come le genti, e come i popoli della terra, adorando i legni, e le pietre.	32 And the plan of your mind will not occur, saying: ‘We will be like the Gentiles, and like the families of the earth, so that we worship what is wood and stone.’
33 Io giuro, dice il Signore Dio, che io sopra di voi regnerò con mano pesante, con braccio disteso, e con ispandere tutto il mio furore.	33 As I live, says the Lord God, I will reign over you with a strong hand, and with an outstretched arm, and with fury poured forth.
34 E vi trarrò di mezzo ai popoli, e vi raunerò dai paesi, pe' quali siete dispersi, regnerò sopra di voi con mano pesante, con braccio disteso, e con ispandere tutto il mio furore.	34 And I will lead you away from the peoples. And I will gather you from the lands into which you were dispersed. I will reign over you with a powerful hand, and with an outstretched arm, and with fury poured out.
35 E vi condurrò nello spopolato deserto, ed ivi farò giudizio con voi faccia a faccia.	35 And I will lead you into the desert of the peoples, and there I will enter into judgment with you, face to face.
36 Come disputai in giudizio contro de' padri vostri nel deserto della terra d'Egitto, cosi io farò giudizio con voi, dice il Signore Dio.	36 Just as I contended in judgment against your fathers in the desert of the land of Egypt, so also will I enter into judgment with you, says the Lord God.
37 E vi sottometterò al mio scettro, e farovvi entrare ne' vincoli di mia alleanza.	37 And I will subject you to my scepter, and I will lead you into the bonds of the covenant.
38 E dividerò da voi i trasgressori, e gli empj, e farogli uscir dalla terra dove abitano, e nella terra d'Israele non entreranno: e conoscerete, ch'io sono il Signore.	38 And I will select, from among you, the transgressors and the impious. And I will lead them away from the land of their sojourn, but they shall not enter into the land of Israel. And you shall know that I am the Lord.
39 E a te, casa di Israele, dice il Signore Dio: Andate ognun di voi dietro agl'idoli vostri, e rendete lor servitù. Che se neppur in questo mi ascolterete, e profanerete tuttora il santo nome mio offerendo a me doni, e servendo a' vostri idoli,	39 And as for you, house of Israel: thus says the Lord God: Walk, each one of you, after your idols and serve them. But if in this also you will not listen to me, and you continue to defile my holy name with your gifts and with your idols,
40 Sul santo monte mio, sul monte eccelso d'Israele (dice il Signore Dio) ivi servirà a me tutta la casa d'Israele; tutti, io dico, nella terra, in cui saranno a me accetti, e ivi io gradirò le vostre primizie, e l'offerta di vostre decime con tutto il vostro culto santo.	40 on my holy mountain, on the exalted mountain of Israel, says the Lord God, there all the house of Israel shall serve me; all of them, I say, in the land in which they shall please me, and there I will require your first-fruits, and the foremost of your tithes, with all your sanctifications.
41 Come odorosissimo timiama io vi riceverò allora quando vi avrò tratti fuora dalle nazioni, e vi avrò raunati da tutte le terre, pelle quali foste di spersi, e in voi si farà manifesta la mia santità agli occhi delle nazioni.	41 I will receive from you a fragrance of sweetness, when I will have led you away from the peoples, and gathered you from the lands into which you were dispersed. And I will be sanctified in you before the eyes of the nations.
42 E conoscerete, ch'io sono il Signore, allorché vi avrò introdotto nella terra d'Israele, nella terra, che io giurai di dare a' vostri progenitori.	42 And you shall know that I am the Lord, when I will have led you into the land of Israel, into the land about which I lifted up my hand, so that I would give it to your fathers.
43 E ivi richiamerete a memoria i vostri andamenti, e tutte le vostre scelleratezze, colle quali vi siete contaminati, e dispiacerete a voi stessi negli occhi vostri a motivo di tutte le malvagità, che avete commesse.	43 And there you shall remember your ways and all your wickedness, by which you have been defiled. And you will be displeased with yourselves in your own sight, over all your evil deeds which you did.
44 E conoscerete, ch'io sono il Signore, allora quando per amore del nome mio sarò benefico con voi, e non secondo i vostri cattivi andamenti, né secondo le pessime vostre scelleratezze, o casa d'Israele, dice il Signore Dio.	44 And you shall know that I am the Lord, when I will have acted well toward you for the sake of my name, and not according to your evil ways, nor according to your very great wickedness, O house of Israel, says the Lord God.”
45 E parlommi il Signore, dicendo:	45 And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:
46 Figliuolo dell'uomo, volgi la tua faccia a mezzodì, e parla dalla parte del vento Africo, e profetizza alla selva della campagna di mezzodì.	46 “Son of man, set your face against the way of the south, and pour in drops toward Africa, and prophesy against the forest of the field of the meridian.
47 E dirai alla selva di mezzodì: Ascolta la parola del Signore: Queste cose dice il Signore Dio: Ecco che io accenderò in te il fuoco, e abbrucerò ogni tua pianta verde, e ogni tua pianta secca; la fiamma dell'incendio non si spegnerà, e in essa arderà tutto quello, Che v'è di bello da mezzodì fino a settentrione.	47 And you shall say to the meridian forest: Listen to the word of the Lord. Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I will kindle a fire in you, and I will burn up within you every green tree and every dry tree. The flame of the kindling will not be extinguished. And every face will be burned up within it, from the south, even to the north.
48 E gli uomini tutti vedranno, che io il Signore le ho dato fuoco, né questo si spegnerà.	48 And all flesh will see that I, the Lord, have kindled it, and that it will not be extinguished.”
49 Ed io dissi: Ah, ha, ah, Signore Dio: costoro dicon di me: Non parla egli costui per via di parabole?	49 And I said: “Alas, alas, alas, O Lord God! They are saying about me: ‘Does this man not speak except through parables?’ ”
