BIBBIA MARTINI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 La donna saggia edifica la sua casa; la stolta distrugge colle sue mani quella, che era già edificata.	1 Wisdom builds herself a house; with her own hands Folly pul s it down.
2 Chi cammina per la via retta, e teme Dio, è disprezzato da chi batte la strada dell'ignominia.	2 Whoever keeps to an honest course fears Yahweh, whoever deserts his paths shows contempt forhim.
3 La bocca dello stolto è verga di superbia; ma le labbra dei saggi sono la loro sicurezza.	3 Pride sprouts in the mouth of the fool, the lips of the wise keep them safe.
4 Dove mancano i bovi, è vuota la mangiatoja; dove sono le grasce in gran copia, ivi si riconosce la forza de' bovi.	4 No oxen, empty manger; strong bul , much cash.
5 Il testimone fedele non dirà menzogna, ma il falso testimone vomiterà menzogne.	5 The truthful witness tells no lies, the false witness lies with every breath.
6 Il derisore cerca la sapienza, e non la trova: i prudenti si istruiscono agevolmente.	6 In vain the mocker looks for wisdom, knowledge comes easy to the intel igent.
7 Cammina al contrario dello stolto: egli non conosce i dettami della prudenza.	7 Keep wel clear of the fool, you wil not find wise lips there.
8 La saggezza dell'uom prudente sta in conoscere la sua strada: l'imprudenza degli stolti li mena fuori di strada.	8 With people of discretion, wisdom keeps a watch over their conduct, but the fol y of fools leads themastray.
9 Lo stolto si burlerà del peccato: ma la grazia avrà sua stanza trai giusti.	9 Fools mock at the sacrifice for sin, but favour resides among the honest.
10 Il cuore (di ciascheduno) conosce l'afflizione dell'anima sua; e il gaudio di lui noi penetrerà un estraneo.	10 The heart knows its own grief best, nor can a stranger share its joy.
11 La casa degli empj sarà spiantata: ma i padiglioni de'giusti saranno floridi.	11 The house of the wicked wil be destroyed, the tent of the honest wil prosper.
12 Havvi una strada, che all'uomo sembra diritta; ma la sua fine mena a morte.	12 There are ways that some think straight, but they lead in the end to death.
13 Il riso sarà mescolato col dolore: e il pianto succederà all'allegrezza.	13 Even in laughter the heart finds sadness, and joy makes way for sorrow.
14 Lo stolto si pascerà del suo modo di vivere: ma l'uomo dabbene sta meglio di lui.	14 The miscreant wil reap the reward of his conduct, and the good the reward of his deeds.
15 L'uom senza sperienza credè ad ogni parola: ma l'uomo cauto bada, dove mettere i piedi. Il figliuolo, che non ha sincerità, non avrà bene: riusciranno felicemente le cose sue al servo prudente, e le sue vie saranno felici.	15 The simpleton believes any message, a person of discretion treads a careful path.
16 Il saggio teme, e schiva il male: lo stolto va avanti, e non ha paura.	16 The wise fears evil and avoids it, the fool is insolent and conceited.
17 L'uomo impaziente agirà da stolto: l'uomo tìnto diventa odioso.	17 A quick-tempered person commits rash acts, but a schemer is detestable.
18 Gli imprudenti avranno per loro retaggio la stoltezza, e i prudenti saran coronati di scienza.	18 Simpletons have folly for their portion, people of discretion knowledge for their crown.
19 Giaceranno i cattivi ai piedi de' buoni: e gli empj dinanzi alle porte de' giusti.	19 The evil bow down before the good, the wicked, at the gates of the upright.
20 Il povero è avuto a noia anche da' suoi prossimi: i ricchi hanno molti amici.	20 The poor is detestable even to a friend, but many are they who love someone rich.
21 Pecca chi disprezza il suo prossimo: e chi ha misericordia del povero, sarà beato. Chi crede nel Signore ama la misericordia.	21 One who despises the needy is at fault, one who takes pity on the poor is blessed.
22 Sono in errore quelli, che fanno il male: la misericordia, e la verità pre parano i beni.	22 Plan evil -- isn't this to go astray? Those who plan for good can earn faithful love and constancy.
23 Dovunque si lavora, ivi sarà l'abbondanza: dove molto si parla, vi sarà l'indigenza.	23 Hard work always yields its profit, idle talk brings only want.
24 Corona de'saggj son le loro ric chezze: la stoltezza resta agli stolti.	24 The crown of the wise is their riches; the fol y of fools is folly.
25 Il testimone fedele è liberatore degli uomini; il furbo spaccia menzogne.	25 A truthful witness saves lives, whoever utters lies is a deceiver.
26 Nel timor del Signore trovasi fiducia costante; e i figliuoli di lui conser veranno speranza.	26 In the fear of Yahweh is powerful security; for his children he is a refuge.
27 Il timor del Signore sorgente di vita: ei fa, che si schivino le rovine mortali.	27 The fear of Yahweh is a life-giving spring for eluding the snares of death.
28 La dignità del re sta nella moltitudine del popolo: ed è disonore del principe la scarsezza dei sudditi.	28 Large population, monarch's glory; dwindling population, ruler's ruin.
29 Chi è paziente si governa con molta prudenza: ma l'impaziente fa manifesta la sua stoltezza.	29 Mastery of temper is high proof of intel igence, a quick temper makes fol y worse than ever.
30 La sanità del cuore da vita alla carne: l'invidia è tarlo delle ossa.	30 The life of the body is a tranquil heart, but envy is a cancer in the bones.
31 Chi opprime il mendico, fa contumelia al suo Creatore: ma a lui rende onore, chi ha compassione del povero.	31 To oppress the weak insults the Creator, kindness to the needy honours the Creator.
32 La sua malizia darà all'empio la spinta: ma il giusto nella sua morte ha speranza;	32 For evil-doing, the wicked wil be flung headlong, but in integrity the upright wil find refuge.
33 Nel cuore dell'uom prudente abita la sapienza, ed egli illuminerà qualunque ignorante.	33 Wisdom resides in an understanding heart; she is not to be found in the hearts of fools.
34 La giustizia fa grande una nazione: ma il peccato fa infelici i popoli.	34 Uprightness makes a nation great, by sin whole races are disgraced.
35 Il ministro intelligente è grato al re: quello, che non è buono a nulla, proverà il suo sdegno.	35 A king shows favour to a wise minister, but anger to one who shames him.
