1 Il mio spirito si compiace in tre cose che sono approvate da Dio e dagli uomini:	1 With three things my spirit is pleased, which are approved before God and men:
2 La concordia dei fratelli, l'amor dei vicini, un marito e una moglie che van ben d'accordo.	2 The concord of brethren, and the love of neighbours, and mall and wife that agree well together.
3 Tre specie di persone ha in odio l'anima mia e la loro esistenza mi dà gran noia:	3 Three sorts my soul hateth, and I am greatly grieved at their life:
4 il povero superbo, il ricco bugiardo, il vecchio stolto e insensato.	4 A poor man that is proud: a rich man that is a liar: an old man that is a fool, and doting.
5 Quello che non hai raccolto in gioventù come potrai trovartelo nella vecchiaia?	5 The things that thou hast not gathered in thy youth, how shalt thou find them in thy old age?
6 Quanto è bello nei capelli bianchi il giudizio, e nei vecchi il saper dare consiglio!	6 O how comely is judgment for a grey head, and for ancients to know counsel!
7 Come sta bene la sapienza negli anziani, e l'intelligenza e il consiglio negli elevati a dignità!	7 O how comely is wisdom for the aged, and understanding and counsel to men of honour!
8 La corona dei vecchi è la molta esperienza, e la loro gloria è il timor di Dio.	8 Much experience is the crown of old men, and the fear of God is their glory.
9 Io esalto nove cose che il cuore non può indovinare e la decima la dirò agli uomini colla lingua:	9 Nine things that are not to be imagined by the heart have I magnified, and the tenth I will utter to men with my tongue.
10 un uomo che ha le sue consolazioni nei figlioli, uno che da vivo vede la rovina dei suoi nemici.	10 A man that hath joy of his children: and he that liveth and seeth the fall of his enemies.
11 Beato colui che sta con una donna di giudizio, colui che non ha peccato colla sua lingua, e che non ha servito a indegni di lui.	11 Blessed is he. that dwelleth with a wise woman, and that hath not slipped with his tongue, and that hath not served such as are unworthy of him.
12 Beato chi ha trovato un vero amico, e chi espone la giustizia a orecchio che ascolta.	12 Blessed is he that findeth a true friend, and that declareth justice to an ear that heareth.
13 Quanto è grande colui che ha trovato la sapienza e la scienza! Ma nessuno è al di sopra di colui che teme il Signore.	13 How great is he that findeth wisdom and knowledge! but there is none above him that feareth the Lord.
14 Il timore di Dio è supe riore a tutte le cose.	14 The fear of God hath set itself above all things:
15 Beato l'uomo che ha avuto il dono del timor di Dio! Chi lo possiede a chi si potrà paragonare?	15 Blessed is the man, to whom it is given to have the fear of God: he that holdeth it, to whom shall he be likened?
16 Il timor di Dio è il principio del suo amore, e a lui deve essere unito il principio della fede.	16 The fear of God is the beginning of his love: and the beginning of faith is to be fast joined unto it.
17 La più grande piaga è la tristezza del cuore, la più grande malizia è quella della donna.	17 The sadness of the heart is every plague: and the wickedness of a woman is all evil.
18 L'uomo sopporterà qualunque piaga, ma non la piaga del cuore,	18 And a man will choose any plague, but the plague of the heart:
19 e qualunque malizia, ma non la malizia della donna,	19 And ally wickedness, but the wickedness of a woman:
20 e qualunque pena, ma non quella inflitta da chi odia,	20 And any affliction, but the affliction from them that hate him:
21 e qualunque vendetta, ma non la vendetta dei nemici.	21 And ally revenge, but the revenge of enemies.
22 Non c'è veleno peggiore del ve leno del serpente,	22 There is no head worse than the head of a serpent:
23 e non c'è sdegno peggiore dello sdegno della donna. Vorrei stare piuttosto con un leone e con un dragone, che con una donna malvagia.	23 And there is no anger above the anger of a woman. It will be more agreeable to abide with a lion and a dragon, than to dwell with a wicked woman.
24 La malvagità della donna ne cangia il volto, ne fa brutto il viso come quello d'un orso, lo fa apparire come un sacco. In mezzo ai vicini	24 The wickedness of a woman changeth her face: and she darkeneth her countenance as a bear: and sheweth it like sackcloth. In the midst of her neighbours,
25 il suo marito geme, ascolta e sospira sommessamente.	25 Her husband groaned, and hearing he sighed a little.
26 Ogni malizia è piccola in paragone di quella d'una donna; cada sopra di lei la sorte del peccatore.	26 All malice is shore to the malice of a woman, let the lot of sinners fall upon her.
27 Com'è una salita sabbiosa per i piedi d'un vecchio, così è la donna linguacciuta per l'uomo tranquillo.	27 As the climbing of a sandy way is to the feet of the aged, so is a wife full of tongue to a quiet man.
28 Non guardare alla bellezza della donna, non desiderare la donna per la sua bellezza.	28 Look not upon a woman's beauty, and desire not a woman for beauty.
29 L'ira della donna, e la spudoratezza, e la vergogna è grande.	29 A woman's anger, and impudence, and confusion is great.
30 La donna, se ha il comando, è contraria al marito.	30 A woman, if she have superiority, is contrary to her husband.
31 Animo abbattuto, volto triste, cuor piagato, ecco la donna cattiva.	31 A wicked woman abateth the courage, and maketh a heavy countenance, and a wounded heart.
32 Mani fiacche e ginocchia vacillanti, ecco la donna che non rende felice il marito.	32 Feeble hands, and disjointed knees, a woman that doth not make her husband happy.
33 Dalla donna ebbe principio il peccato, e per lei moriamo tutti.	33 From the woman came the beginning of sin, and by her we all die.
34 Non lasciare nemmeno un piccolo foro alla tua acqua, e alla donna malvagia non dare il per messo di uscire.	34 Give no issue to thy water, no, not a little: nor to a wicked woman liberty to gad abroad.
35 Se non cammina secondo le tue direttive, ti svergognerà in faccia ai nemici.	35 If she walk not at thy hand, she will confound thee in the sight of thy enemies.
36 Separala dal tuo corpo, perchè non s'abusi sempre di te.	36 Cut her off from thy flesh, lest she always abuse thee.
