BIBBIA CEI 1974	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Ascolta dunque, Giobbe, i miei discorsi, ad ogni mia parola porgi l'orecchio.	1 So, Job, please listen to my words and attend to al I have to say.
2 Ecco, io apro la bocca, parla la mia lingua entro il mio palato.	2 Now as I open my mouth, and my tongue shapes words against my palate,
3 Il mio cuore dirà sagge parole e le mie labbra parleranno chiaramente.	3 I shal utter words of wisdom from the heart, my lips will speak in all sincerity.
4 Lo spirito di Dio mi ha creato e il soffio dell'Onnipotente mi dà vita.	4 God's was the spirit that made me, Shaddai's the breath that gave me life.
5 Se puoi, rispondimi, prepàrati davanti a me, sta' pronto.	5 Refute me, if you can. Prepare yourself, take up your position!
6 Ecco, io sono come te di fronte a Dio e anch'io sono stato tratto dal fango:	6 Look, I am your equal, not some god, like you I was moulded out of clay.
7 ecco, nulla hai da temere da me, né graverò su di te la mano.	7 No fear of me, therefore, need affright you, my hand wil not lie heavy over you.
8 Non hai fatto che dire ai miei orecchi e ho ben udito il suono dei tuoi detti:	8 How could you say in my hearing -- for the sound of your words did not escape me-
9 "Puro son io, senza peccato, io sono mondo, non ho colpa;	9 'I am clean, and sinless, I am pure, without fault.
10 ma egli contro di me trova pretesti e mi stima suo nemico;	10 But he keeps inventing excuses against me and regards me as his enemy.
11 pone in ceppi i miei piedi e spia tutti i miei passi!".	11 He puts me in the stocks, he watches my every path'?
12 Ecco, in questo ti rispondo: non hai ragione. Dio è infatti più grande dell'uomo.	12 In saying so, I tel you, you are wrong: for God is greater than any human being.
13 Perché ti lamenti di lui, se non risponde ad ogni tua parola?	13 Why then quarrel with him for not replying to you, word for word?
14 Dio parla in un modo o in un altro, ma non si fa attenzione.	14 God speaks first in one way, and then in another, although we do not realise it.
15 Parla nel sogno, visione notturna, quando cade il sopore sugli uomini e si addormentano sul loro giaciglio;	15 In dreams and in night-visions, when slumber has settled on humanity and people are asleep in bed,
16 apre allora l'orecchio degli uomini e con apparizioni li spaventa,	16 he speaks in someone's ear, frightens him with apparitions
17 per distogliere l'uomo dal male e tenerlo lontano dall'orgoglio,	17 to turn him from what he is doing and to put an end to his pride.
18 per preservarne l'anima dalla fossa e la sua vita dalla morte violenta.	18 And thus he preserves his soul from the abyss, his life from passing down the Canal.
19 Lo corregge con il dolore nel suo letto e con la tortura continua delle ossa;	19 Or again, he corrects by the sufferings of the sick-bed, when someone's bones tremble continuously
20 quando il suo senso ha nausea del pane, il suo appetito del cibo squisito;	20 and the thought of food revolts him, however tasty it is,
21 quando la sua carne si consuma a vista d'occhio e le ossa, che non si vedevano prima, spuntano fuori,	21 and his flesh rots away while you watch it and the bones beneath begin to show,
22 quando egli si avvicina alla fossa e la sua vita alla dimora dei morti.	22 and his soul is drawing nearer to the abyss and his life to the dwel ing of the dead.
23 Ma se vi è un angelo presso di lui, un protettore solo fra mille, per mostrare all'uomo il suo dovere,	23 Then, if there is an Angel near him, a Mediator, one in a thousand, to remind him where his duty lies,
24 abbia pietà di lui e dica: "Scampalo dallo scender nella fossa, ho trovato il riscatto",	24 to take pity on him and to say, 'Spare him from going down to the abyss: I have found the ransom forhis life,'
25 allora la sua carne sarà più fresca che in gioventù, tornerà ai giorni della sua adolescenza:	25 his flesh wil recover its childhood freshness, he wil return to the days of his youth.
26 supplicherà Dio e questi gli userà benevolenza, gli mostrerà il suo volto in giubilo, e renderà all'uomo la sua giustizia.	26 He wil pray to God who has restored him to favour, and wil come into his presence with joy. He wiltel others how he has received saving justice
27 Egli si rivolgerà agli uomini e dirà: "Avevo peccato e violato la giustizia, ma egli non mi ha punito per quel che meritavo;	27 and sing this hymn before his companions, 'I sinned and left the path of right, but God has notpunished me as my sin deserved.
28 mi ha scampato dalla fossa e la mia vita rivede la luce".	28 He has spared my soul from going down to the abyss and is making my life see the light.'
29 Ecco, tutto questo fa Dio, due volte, tre volte con l'uomo,	29 All this is what God keeps doing again and yet again for human beings,
30 per sottrarre l'anima sua dalla fossa e illuminarla con la luce dei viventi.	30 to snatch souls back from the abyss and to make the light of the living stil shine.
31 Attendi, Giobbe, ascoltami, taci e io parlerò:	31 Pay attention, Job, listen to me: keep quiet, I have more to say.
32 ma se hai qualcosa da dire, rispondimi, parla, perché vorrei darti ragione;	32 If you have anything to say, refute me, speak out, for I would gladly accept that you are upright.
33 se no, tu ascoltami e io ti insegnerò la sapienza.	33 If not, then listen to me: keep quiet, and I wil teach you wisdom.
