1 Il saggio figliuolo da consolazione al padre suo: ma il figliuolo stolto è l'afflizione di sua madre.	1 The proverbs of Solomon. A wise child is a father's joy, a foolish child a mother's grief.
2 Non faranno prò i tesori raccolti dall'empietà; ma la giustizia libera dalla morte.	2 Treasures wickedly come by give no benefit, but uprightness brings delivery from death.
3 Il Signore non affliggerà colla fame l'anima del giusto, e sventerà le mire degli empj.	3 Yahweh does not let the upright go hungry, but he thwarts the greed of the wicked.
4 La mano oziosa produce la mendicità, la mano attiva accumula ricchezze. Chi fa capitale delle menzogne si ciba de' venti, ed egli pure va dietro agli uccelli, che volano.	4 A slack hand brings poverty, but the hand of the diligent brings wealth.
5 Chi fa sua raccolta al tempo della messe, è un saggio figliuolo, chi dorme nell'estate, è un figliuolo, che fa vergogna.	5 Reaping at harvest-time is the mark of the prudent, sleeping at harvest-time is the sign of theworthless.
6 La benedizione del Signore posa sulla testa del giusto: ma la faccia degli empj è ricoperta dalla iniquità.	6 Blessings are on the head of the upright, but the mouth of the godless is a cover for violence.
7 Si loda la memoria del giusto; ma la rinomanza degli empj marcirà.	7 The upright is remembered with blessings, the name of the wicked rots away.
8 Colui, che è saggio di cuore acetta gli avvertimenti; per lo stolto ogni parola è flagello.	8 The wise of heart takes orders, but a gabbling fool heads for ruin.
9 Chi cammina con semplicità, con fidanza cammina: chi è storto ne' suoi andamenti sarà discoperto.	9 Anyone whose ways are honourable walks secure, but whoever fol ows crooked ways is soonunmasked.
10 L'occhio che ammicca, sarà apportator di dolori: e allo stolto faranno piaga le labbra.	10 A wink of the eye brings trouble, a bold rebuke brings peace.
11 Sorgente di vita è la bocca del giusto; ma la bocca degli empj racchiude iniquità	11 The mouth of the upright is a life-giving fountain, but the mouth of the godless is a cover for violence.
12 L'odio accende le risse, la carità ricuopre tutti i mancamenti.	12 Hatred provokes disputes, but love excuses al offences.
13 Sulle labbra del saggio trovasi la sapienza; e la verga sul dosso di colui, che manca di buon giudicio.	13 On the lips of the discerning is found wisdom, on the back of a fool, the stick.
14 I saggi nascondono il loro sapere: la bocca dello stolto si caparra rossori.	14 Wise people store up knowledge, but the mouth of a fool makes ruin imminent.
15 Le facoltà del ricco sono la sua città forte: la miseria de' poveri li fa paurosi.	15 The wealth of the rich is their stronghold, poverty is the undoing of the weak.
16 Il giusto lavora per vivere, guadagni dell'empio sono per lo peccato.	16 The wage of the upright affords life, but sin is al the wicked earns.
17 Chi tien conto della disciplina egli è nella via della vita; chi schiva la correzione è fuori di strada.	17 Whoever abides by discipline, walks towards life, whoever ignores correction goes astray.
18 Le labbra menzognere nascendone malevolenza: è privo di mente chi svela l'infamia altrui.	18 Liars' lips are a cover for hatred, whoever utters slander is a fool.
19 Il molto parlare non sarà senza peccato; ma chi sa affrenar le sue labbra ha perfetta prudenza.	19 A flood of words is never without fault; whoever controls the lips is wise.
20 La lingua del giusto è come il più fino argento: ma il cuore degli empj non vai niente.	20 The tongue of the upright is purest silver, the heart of the wicked is of trumpery value.
21 Le labbra del giusto istruiscono un gran numero di persone; ma quelli, che non ricevono la istruzione, per inopia di cuore periscono.	21 The lips of the upright nourish many peoples, but fools die for want of sense.
22 La benedizione del Signore è apportatrice di ricchezza, e non mena seco afflizione.	22 The blessing of Yahweh is what brings riches, to this, hard toil has nothing to add.
23 L'insensato commette i delitti come per giuoco; ma la sapienza dell'uomo sta nella prudenza.	23 A fool takes pleasure in doing wrong, the intel igent in cultivating wisdom.
24 Verrà sopra l'empio quel, ch'egli teme: i giusti otterranno quel, che desiderano.	24 What the wicked fears overtakes him, what the upright desires comes to him as a present.
25 Verrà meno l'empio come turbine che passa: ma il giusto è come un fondamento eterno.	25 When the storm is over, the wicked is no more, but the upright stands firm for ever.
26 Quello che è l'aceto pei denti, e il fumo pegli occhi, lo è il pigro per quelli, che lo hanno spedito.	26 As vinegar to the teeth, smoke to the eyes, so the sluggard to the one who sends him.
27 Il timor del Signore allunga la vita; gli anni degli empj saranno accorciati.	27 The fear of Yahweh adds length to life, the years of the wicked wil be cut short.
28 L'espettazione de' giusti è lieta: ma le speranze degli empj anderanno in fumo.	28 The hope of the upright is joy, the expectations of the wicked come to nothing.
29 La via del Signore fa forte il giusto: quelli, che male operano son paurosi.	29 The way of Yahweh is a rampart for the honest, for evil-doers nothing but ruin.
30 Il giusto non sarà smosso giammai; ma gli empj non avranno abitazione sopra la terra.	30 The upright wil never have to give way, but the land wil offer no home for the wicked.
31 La bocca del giusto darà frutti di sapienza: la lingua de' malvaggj anderà in perdizione.	31 The mouth of the upright utters wisdom, the tongue that deceives wil be cut off.
32 Le labbra del giusto ruminano cose gradevoli, e la bocca dell'empio cose perverse.	32 The lips of the upright know about kindness, the mouth of the wicked about deceit.
