BIBBIA TINTORI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Non riportare discorsi sentiti, rivelando il segreto: così non avrai da arrossire e troverai grazia nel cospetto di tutti gli uomini. Non ti vergognare di tutte quest'altre cose, e il rispetto umano non ti faccia peccare.	1 The fol owing things you should not be ashamed of, and do not sin from fear of what others think:
2 Della legge dell'Altissimo, dell'alleanza, della giustizia che assolve l'empio,	2 of the Law of the Most High or of the covenant, of a verdict that acquits the godless,
3 nei conti coi soci e i viandanti, della divisione dell'eredità tra gli amici,	3 of keeping accounts with a travelling companion, of settling property on your friends,
4 della bilancia e della stadera giusta, del guadagno, molto o poco che sia,	4 of being accurate over scales and weights, of making small and large profits,
5 (di impedire) la corruzione del mercato e dei mercanti, di correggere molto i figlioli, e far sanguinare i fianchi al servo scellerato.	5 of gaining from commercial transactions, of disciplining your children strictly, of lashing a wicked slavetill you draw blood.
6 E' bene mettere il sigillo sopra una donna cattiva.	6 With an interfering wife, it is as wel to use your seal, and where there are many hands, lock things up.
7 Dove son molte mani, chiudi; e ciò che dài contalo e pesalo, inoltre ciò che dài e ciò che ricevi scrivilo tutto.	7 Whatever stores you issue, do it by number and weight, spendings and takings, put everything inwriting.
8 (Non ti vergognare) di correggere l'insensato, lo stolto, nè dei vecchi condannati dai giovani; così tu sarai saggio in tutto e lo dato davanti a tutti i viventi.	8 Do not be ashamed to correct a stupid person or a fool, or an old dotard who bickers with youngpeople. Then you wil show yourself real y educated and win the approval of everyone.
9 La figlia è l'occulta ansia del padre, e toglie il sonno il timore che essa invecchi ragazza o sia presa in odio da maritata.	9 Unknown to her, a daughter keeps her father awake, the worry she gives him drives away his sleep: inher youth, in case she never marries, married, in case she should be disliked,
10 o che sia contaminata nella sua verginità, o che si trovi incinta nella casa paterna, o che sia infedele col marito o per lo meno rimanga sterile.	10 as a virgin, in case she should be defiled and found with child in her father's house, having a husband,in case she goes astray, married, in case she should be sterile!
11 Fai stretta guardia a figlia lussuriosa, chè non ti faccia divenire oggetto di scherno pei tuoi nemici, la favola della città, il ludibrio della plebe, e ti copra di confusione nell'assemblea del popolo.	11 Your daughter is headstrong? Keep a sharp look-out that she does not make you the laughing-stock ofyour enemies, the talk of the town, the object of common gossip, and put you to public shame.
12 Non guardare alla bellezza di nessun uomo e non ti trattenere in mezzo alle donne.	12 Do not stare at any man for his good looks, do not sit down with women;
13 Perchè dalle vesti vien la tignola e dalla donna l'iniquità dell'uomo.	13 for moth comes out of clothes, and woman's spite out of woman.
14 E' meglio il male da un uomo che i benefìzi da una donna, da una donna che porta vergogna e ignominia.	14 Better a man's spite than a woman's kindness: women give rise to shame and reproach.
15 Or rammenterò le opere del Signore, e pubblicherò quello che ho veduto. Per la parola del Signore esistono le sue opere.	15 Next, I shal remind you of the works of the Lord, and tel of what I have seen. By the words of the Lordhis works come into being and all creation obeys his wil .
16 Il lucente sole contempla tutto, l'opera del Signore è piena della sua gloria.	16 The shining sun looks down on al things, and the work of the Lord is full of his glory.
17 Non ha forse il Signore dato ai santi di annunziare tutte le sue maraviglie che il Signore onnipotente ha confermate perchè reggano nella sua gloria?	17 The Lord has not granted the Holy Ones the power to tell of all his marvels which the Almighty Lordhas solidly constructed for the universe to stand firm in his glory.
18 Egli scruta l'abisso e il cuore dell'uomo e conosce i loro segreti accorgimenti;	18 He has fathomed both the abyss and the human heart and seen into their devious ways; for the MostHigh knows all there is to know and sees the signs of the times.
19 Egli conosce tutto lo scibile e vede i segni del tempo, annunzia le cose passate e quelle future e scopre le tracce delle cose nascoste.	19 He declares what is past and what wil be, and reveals the trend of hidden things.
20 Nessun pensiero gli sfugge, nessuna parola gli resta nascosta.	20 Not a thought escapes him, not a single word is hidden from him.
21 Egli ha decorate le maraviglie della sua sapienza. Egli è prima dei secoli e per tutti i secoli, e nulla s'è aggiunto a lui,	21 He has embellished the magnificent works of his wisdom, he is from everlasting to everlasting, nothingcan be added to him, nothing taken away, he needs no one's advice.
22 e nulla gli manca, e non ha bisogno del consiglio di nessuno.	22 How lovely, all his works, how dazzling to the eye!
23 Quanto son belle le sue opere! E' come scintilla quello che si può considerare.	23 They all live and last for ever, and, whatever the circumstances, al obey.
24 Tutte queste cose vivono e durano nei secoli e tutte in ogni occorrenza obbediscono a lui.	24 Al things go in pairs, by opposites, he has not made anything imperfect:
25 Tutte sono a coppia, l'una di fronte all'altra: Egli non ha fatto nulla di difettoso.	25 one thing complements the excel ence of another. Who could ever grow tired of gazing at his glory?
26 Egli assicura il bene di ciascuna. Chi può saziarsi di mirarne la gloria?
