1 Una dolce risposta calma l'ira, la parola cruda accende il furore.	1 A mild answer calms wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.
2 La lingua dei saggi dà pregio alla scienza, la bocca degli stolti butta fuori scempiaggini.	2 The tongue of the wise pours out knowledge, but the mouth of fools spurts forth folly.
3 In ogni luogo gli occhi del Signore contemplano i buoni e i cattivi.	3 The eyes of the LORD are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good.
4 La lingua di pace è albero di vita, ma quella senza freno piaga lo spirito.	4 A soothing tongue is a tree of life, but a perverse one crushes the spirit.
5 Lo stolto mette in ridicolo la correzione di suo padre, ma chi fa tesoro delle correzioni diventerà più saggio. Nell'abbondanza della giustizia sta la somma fortezza, ma i disegni degli empi saranno schiantati.	5 The fool spurns his father's admonition, but prudent is he who heeds reproof.
6 La casa del giusto è bene munita, ma nelle entrate dell'empio c'è lo scompiglio.	6 In the house of the just there are ample resources, but the earnings of the wicked are in turmoil.
7 Le labbra dei saggi dissemineranno la scienza; il cuore degli stolti farà il contrario.	7 The lips of the wise disseminate knowledge, but the heart of fools is perverted.
8 Il Signore abbomina le vittime degli empi: i voti dei giusti lo placano.	8 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD, but the prayer of the upright is his delight.
9 Il Signore ha in orrore la via degli empi: chi segue la giustizia è da lui amato.	9 The way of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD, but he loves the man who pursues virtue.
10 Brutta lezione avrà chi abbandona la via della vita; chi odia la correzione perirà.	10 Severe punishment is in store for the man who goes astray; he who hates reproof will die.
11 L'inferno e l'abisso sono aperti dinanzi a Dio; quanto più il cuore dei figli degli uomini?	11 The nether world and the abyss lie open before the LORD; how much more the hearts of men!
12 L'uomo corrotto non ama chi lo corregge, ne va dai saggi.	12 The senseless man loves not to be reproved; to wise men he will not go.
13 Il cuore pieno di gioia rende ilare il volto; nella tristezza dell'animo lo spirito è abbattuto.	13 A glad heart lights up the face, but by mental anguish the spirit is broken.
14 Il cuore del saggio cerca d'imparare, e la bocca degli stolti si pasce d'ignoranza.	14 The mind of the intelligent man seeks knowledge, but the mouth of fools feeds on folly.
15 I giorni del povero son tutti cattivi; ma l'animo tranquillo è come convito perenne.	15 Every day is miserable for the depressed, but a lighthearted man has a continual feast.
16 Meglio poca roba col timore del Signore, che immensi tesori che non saziano.	16 Better a little with fear of the LORD than a great fortune with anxiety.
17 Meglio essere invitato con amore a mangiare verdura, che a mangiar con odio un vitello grasso.	17 Better a dish of herbs where love is than a fatted ox and hatred with it.
18 L'uomo iridando fa nascere le risse; il paziente estingue le già nate.	18 An ill-tempered man stirs up strife, but a patient man allays discord.
19 La via dei pigri è come siepe di spine; la via dei giusti non ha inciampo.	19 The way of the sluggard is hemmed in as with thorns, but the path of the diligent is a highway.
20 Il figlio saggio è la gioia del padre; l'uomo stolto disprezza la sua madre.	20 A wise son makes his father glad, but a fool of a man despises his mother.
21 La stoltezza è una gioia per lo stolto; ma l'uomo prudente va diritto per la sua via.	21 Folly is joy to the senseless man, but the man of understanding goes the straight way.
22 Vanno in fumo i disegni dove non c'è consiglio, riescono dove son molti i consiglieri.	22 Plans fail when there is no counsel, but they succeed when counselors are many.
23 L'uomo s'allieta di sua bella risposta: ottima è la parola detta a tempo.	23 There is joy for a man in his utterance; a word in season, how good it is!
24 La via della vita sta in alto per l'intelligente e gli fa evitare il profondo inferno.	24 The path of life leads the prudent man upward, that he may avoid the nether world below.
25 Il Signore demolirà le case dei superbi, e renderà stabili i termini (del campo) della vedova.	25 The LORD overturns the house of the proud, but he preserves intact the widow's landmark.
26 I cattivi pensieri sono l'abbominazione del Signore: le parole caste sono bellissime, e da lui approvate.	26 The wicked man's schemes are an abomination to the LORD, but the pure speak what is pleasing to him.
27 Chi va dietro all'avarizia mette in scompiglio la propria casa; chi odia i regali avrà vita. Mediante la misericordia e la fede si purificano i peccati, ma è pel timore del Signore che l'uomo schiva il male.	27 He who is greedy of gain brings ruin on his own house, but he who hates bribes will live.
28 La mente del giusto mette ogni sua cura nell'obbedienza; la bocca degli empi rigurgita di malvagità.	28 The just man weighs well his utterance, but the mouth of the wicked pours out evil.
29 Il Signore sta lontano dagli empi, ed esaudirà le preghiere dei giusti.	29 The LORD is far from the wicked, but the prayer of the just he hears.
30 La luce degli occhi è la gioia dell'anima, e la buona fama impingua le ossa.	30 A cheerful glance brings joy to the heart; good news invigorates the bones.
31 L'orecchio che ascolta le correzioni della vita dimorerà in mezzo ai sapienti.	31 He who listens to salutary reproof will abide among the wise.
32 Chi rigetta la correzione odia l'anima sua, chi dà retta alle riprensioni è padrone del cuore.	32 He who rejects admonition despises his own soul, but he who heeds reproof gains understanding.
33 Il timor del Signore è disciplina di sapienza e l'umiltà precede la gloria.	33 The fear of the LORD is training for wisdom, and humility goes before honors.
