1 Parole di Lemuèl, re di Massa, che apprese da sua madre.	1 The words of king Lemuel, the prophecy that his mother taught him.
2 Che mai, figlio mio! Che mai, figlio del mio grembo! Che mai, figlio dei miei voti!	2 What, my son? and what, the son of my womb? and what, the son of my vows?
3 Non concedere alle donne il tuo vigore, né i tuoi fianchi a quelle che corrompono i re.	3 Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings.
4 Non conviene ai re, Lemuèl, non conviene ai re bere il vino, né ai prìncipi desiderare bevande inebrianti,	4 It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:
5 per paura che, bevendo, dimentichino ciò che hanno decretato e tradiscano il diritto di tutti gli infelici.	5 Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.
6 Date bevande inebrianti a chi si sente venir meno e il vino a chi ha l’amarezza nel cuore:	6 Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts.
7 beva e dimentichi la sua povertà e non si ricordi più delle sue pene.	7 Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.
8 Apri la bocca in favore del muto, in difesa di tutti gli sventurati.	8 Open thy mouth for the dumb in the cause of all such as are appointed to destruction.
9 Apri la bocca e giudica con equità, rendi giustizia all’infelice e al povero. Alef	9 Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.
10 Una donna forte chi potrà trovarla? Ben superiore alle perle è il suo valore. Bet	10 Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.
11 In lei confida il cuore del marito e non verrà a mancargli il profitto. Ghimel	11 The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.
12 Gli dà felicità e non dispiacere per tutti i giorni della sua vita. Dalet	12 She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.
13 Si procura lana e lino e li lavora volentieri con le mani. He	13 She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.
14 È simile alle navi di un mercante, fa venire da lontano le provviste. Vau	14 She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar.
15 Si alza quando è ancora notte, distribuisce il cibo alla sua famiglia e dà ordini alle sue domestiche. Zain	15 She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.
16 Pensa a un campo e lo acquista e con il frutto delle sue mani pianta una vigna. Het	16 She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.
17 Si cinge forte i fianchi e rafforza le sue braccia. Tet	17 She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.
18 È soddisfatta, perché i suoi affari vanno bene; neppure di notte si spegne la sua lampada. Iod	18 She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.
19 Stende la sua mano alla conocchia e le sue dita tengono il fuso. Caf	19 She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.
20 Apre le sue palme al misero, stende la mano al povero. Lamed	20 She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.
21 Non teme la neve per la sua famiglia, perché tutti i suoi familiari hanno doppio vestito. Mem	21 She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.
22 Si è procurata delle coperte, di lino e di porpora sono le sue vesti. Nun	22 She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.
23 Suo marito è stimato alle porte della città, quando siede in giudizio con gli anziani del luogo. Samec	23 Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.
24 Confeziona tuniche e le vende e fornisce cinture al mercante. Ain	24 She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.
25 Forza e decoro sono il suo vestito e fiduciosa va incontro all’avvenire. Pe	25 Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.
26 Apre la bocca con saggezza e la sua lingua ha solo insegnamenti di bontà. Sade	26 She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.
27 Sorveglia l’andamento della sua casa e non mangia il pane della pigrizia. Kof	27 She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.
28 Sorgono i suoi figli e ne esaltano le doti, suo marito ne tesse l’elogio: Res	28 Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.
29 «Molte figlie hanno compiuto cose eccellenti, ma tu le hai superate tutte!». Sin	29 Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.
30 Illusorio è il fascino e fugace la bellezza, ma la donna che teme Dio è da lodare. Tau	30 Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.
31 Siatele riconoscenti per il frutto delle sue mani e le sue opere la lodino alle porte della città.	31 Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.
