Proverbi 24

BIBBIA MARTINI	CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAIN
1 Non portare invidia ai malvagi, e non bramare di star con essi:	1 Do not imitate evil men, nor desire to be among them.
2 Perocché la loro mente inedita rapine: e le loro labbra parlano di tradimenti.	2 For their mind meditates on robberies, and their lips speak deceptions.
3 La casa si edificherà colla sapienza, e per la prudenza renderassi stabile.	3 By wisdom shall a house be built, and by prudence shall it be strengthened.
4 Mediante la scienza saran ripiene le guardarobe di ogni specie di cose preziose, e più belle.	4 By doctrine, the storerooms shall be filled with every substance that is precious and most beautiful.
5 L'uomo saggio ha fortezza, e l'uomo, che ha scienza, è robusto, e vigoroso.	5 A wise man is strong, and a well-taught man is robust and valiant.
6 Perocché col buon ordine si governa la guerra: e la salute si troverà, dove son molti consigli.	6 For war is undertaken in an orderly manner, and safety shall be where there are many counsels.
7 Ardua cosa per lo stolto è la sapienza: egli non aprirà sua bocca alla porta.	7 Wisdom is beyond the foolish; at the gate he will not open his mouth.
8 Chi pensa a mal fare, avrà il nome di stolto.	8 Whoever intends to do evil shall be called foolish.
9 Il pensier dello stolto è peccato: il detrattore poi è l'obbrobrio degli uomini.	9 The intention of the foolish is sin. And the detractor is an abomination among men.
10 Se stancandoti tu perdi speranza nel dì dell'angustia, la tua fortezza si impiccolisce.	10 If you despair, being weary in the day of anguish, your strength will be diminished.
11 Cava di pericolo quelli, che sono condotti a morte: e non esser tardo a liberare quelli, che sono strascinati al supplizio.	11 Rescue those who are led away to death. And do not cease from delivering those who are dragged away to a violent death.
12 Se tu dirai: Non ho forze abbastanza; colui che vede i cuori, egli conosce, e nulla è ascoso al Salvatore dell'anima tua, il quale renderà all'uomo secondo le opere sue.	12 If you would say: “I do not have sufficient strength.” He who inspects the heart, the same one understands, and nothing slips past the one who preserves your soul. And he shall repay a man according to his works.
13 Mangia, figliuol mio, il miele, per che è buono, e il favo sarà dolcissimo al tuo palato.	13 My son, eat honey, because it is good, and the honeycomb, because it is so sweet to your throat.
14 Tale sarà all'anima tua la dottrina della sapienza, e quando tu l'avrai trovata, avrai speranza negli ultimi giorni, e la tua speranza non verrà meno.	14 So, too, is the doctrine of wisdom to your soul. When you have found it, you will have hope in the end, and your hope shall not perish.
15 Non tendere insidie al giusto, e non cercare l'empietà nella casa di lui, e non isturbare il suo riposo:	15 Do not lie in wait, and do not seek impiety in the house of the just, nor spoil his rest.
16 Perocché sette volte caderà il giusto, e risorgerà; ma gli empj precipitano nel male.	16 For the just one will fall seven times, and he shall rise again. But the impious will fall into evil.
17 Non ti rallegrare della caduta del tuo nemico, e il cuor tuo non trionfi di sua rovina,	17 When your enemy will fall, do not be glad, and do not let your heart exult in his ruin,
18 Affinchè il Signore, ohe ciò vede, non se n'offenda, ed egli ritirerà da lui il suo sdegno.	18 lest perhaps the Lord see, and it displease him, and he may take away his wrath from him.
19 Non contendere co' malvaggi, e non portar invidia agli empj:	19 Do not contend with the most wicked, and do not be a rival to the impious.
20 Perocché i cattivi non hanno speranza in futuro, e la lucerna dell'empio si spegnerà.	20 For the evil hold no hope in the future, and the lamp of the impious will be extinguished.
21 Figliuol mio, temi il Signore, ed il re, e non far lega co' detrattori;	21 My son, fear the Lord, as well as the king. And do not mingle with detractors.
22 Perocché scoppierà repentinamente la loro perdizione, e chi sa quai supplizi l'uno, e l'altro farà soffrire?	22 For their perdition shall up rise suddenly. And who knows what ruin will be for each of them?
23 Queste cose ancora sono pei sapienti: il fare accettazione di persone in giudizio, non è cosa buona.	23 Likewise, these things are for the wise. It is not good to base judgment on knowledge of character.
24 Quelli, che all'empio dicono: Tu se' giusto, saran maledetti dai popoli, e detestati dalle tribù.	24 Those who say to the impious, “You are just,” shall be cursed by the people, and the tribes shall detest them.
25 Quelli, che lo condannano saranno lodati, e sopra di essi verrà la benedizione.	25 Those who argue against the impious shall be praised, and a blessing shall come upon them.
26 Colui che risponde secondo la verità, da un bacio sulla bocca.	26 He shall kiss the lips, who responds with upright words.
27 Metti in buon ordine fuori il tuo lavoro, e coltiva diligentemente il tuo campo, e poi fabbricherai la tua casa.	27 Prepare your outdoor work, and diligently cultivate your field, so that afterward, you may build your house.
28 Non volere senza motivo render testimonianza contro il tuo prossimo, e non adular nissuno colle tue labbra.	28 Do not be a witness without cause against your neighbor. And do not mislead anyone with your lips.
29 Non dire: Farò a lui quello, che ha fatto a me: renderò a ciascheduno secondo le sue azioni.	29 Do not say, “I will do to him as he has done to me.” I will repay each one according to his work.
30 Passai pel campo di un infingardo, e per la vigna di un uomo stolto,	30 I passed by the field of a lazy man, and by the vineyard of a foolish man,
31 E vidi, come tutto era pieno di ortica, e le spine l'avean coperta quant'ell è grande, e la muraglia a secco era rovinata.	31 and behold, it was entirely filled with nettles, and thorns had covered its surface, and the stonewall was destroyed.
32 Veduta tal cosa, la riposi nel mio cuore, e con tal esempio imparai a ben regolarmi.	32 When I had seen this, I laid it up in my heart, and by this example, I received discipline.
33 E dissi: Un poco tu dormirai, un altro poco ti appisolerai, un pochetto starai colle mani in mano per riposarti;	33 You will sleep a little,” I said. “You will slumber briefly. You will fold your hands a little, so as to rest.
34 E ti sopravverrà, come un corriere, la indigenza, e la mendicità, come un uomo armato.	34 And destitution will overtake you like a runner, and begging will overtake you like an armed man.”
