Proverbi 24

BIBBIA MARTINI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Non portare invidia ai malvagi, e non bramare di star con essi:	1 Do not be envious of the wicked or wish for their company,
2 Perocché la loro mente inedita rapine: e le loro labbra parlano di tradimenti.	2 for their hearts are scheming violence, their lips talking mischief.
3 La casa si edificherà colla sapienza, e per la prudenza renderassi stabile.	3 By wisdom a house is built, by understanding it is made strong;
4 Mediante la scienza saran ripiene le guardarobe di ogni specie di cose preziose, e più belle.	4 by knowledge its storerooms are fil ed with riches of every kind, rare and desirable.
5 L'uomo saggio ha fortezza, e l'uomo, che ha scienza, è robusto, e vigoroso.	5 The wise is mighty in power, strength is reinforced by science;
6 Perocché col buon ordine si governa la guerra: e la salute si troverà, dove son molti consigli.	6 for it is by strategy that you wage war, and victory depends on having many counsellors.
7 Ardua cosa per lo stolto è la sapienza: egli non aprirà sua bocca alla porta.	7 For a fool wisdom is an inaccessible fortress: at the city gate he does not open his mouth.
8 Chi pensa a mal fare, avrà il nome di stolto.	8 Anyone intent on evil-doing is known as a master in cunning.
9 Il pensier dello stolto è peccato: il detrattore poi è l'obbrobrio degli uomini.	9 Folly dreams of nothing but sin, the mocker is abhorrent.
10 Se stancandoti tu perdi speranza nel dì dell'angustia, la tua fortezza si impiccolisce.	10 If you lose heart when things go wrong, your strength is not worth much.
11 Cava di pericolo quelli, che sono condotti a morte: e non esser tardo a liberare quelli, che sono strascinati al supplizio.	11 Save those being dragged towards death, but can you rescue those on their way to execution?
12 Se tu dirai: Non ho forze abbastanza; colui che vede i cuori, egli conosce, e nulla è ascoso al Salvatore dell'anima tua, il quale renderà all'uomo secondo le opere sue.	12 If you say, 'But look, we did not know,' wil the Weigher of the heart pay no attention? Wil not theGuardian of your soul be aware and repay you as your deeds deserve?
13 Mangia, figliuol mio, il miele, per che è buono, e il favo sarà dolcissimo al tuo palato.	13 Eat honey, my child, since it is good; honey that drips from the comb is sweet to the taste:
14 Tale sarà all'anima tua la dottrina della sapienza, e quando tu l'avrai trovata, avrai speranza negli ultimi giorni, e la tua speranza non verrà meno.	14 and so, for sure, wil wisdom be to your soul: find it and you will have a future and your hope wil notbe cut short.
15 Non tendere insidie al giusto, e non cercare l'empietà nella casa di lui, e non isturbare il suo riposo:	15 Do not lurk, wicked man, round the upright man's dwel ing, do not despoil his house.
16 Perocché sette volte caderà il giusto, e risorgerà; ma gli empj precipitano nel male.	16 For though the upright fal s seven times, he gets up again; the wicked are the ones who stumble inadversity.
17 Non ti rallegrare della caduta del tuo nemico, e il cuor tuo non trionfi di sua rovina,	17 Should your enemy fal , do not rejoice, when he stumbles do not let your heart exult:
18 Affinchè il Signore, ohe ciò vede, non se n'offenda, ed egli ritirerà da lui il suo sdegno.	18 for fear that Yahweh wil be displeased at the sight and turn his anger away from him.
19 Non contendere co' malvaggi, e non portar invidia agli empj:	19 Do not be indignant about the wicked, do not be envious of the evil,
20 Perocché i cattivi non hanno speranza in futuro, e la lucerna dell'empio si spegnerà.	20 for there is no future for the evil, the lamp of the wicked wil go out.
21 Figliuol mio, temi il Signore, ed il re, e non far lega co' detrattori;	21 Fear Yahweh, my child, and fear the king; do not al y yourself with innovators;
22 Perocché scoppierà repentinamente la loro perdizione, e chi sa quai supplizi l'uno, e l'altro farà soffrire?	22 for suddenly disaster wil loom for them, and who knows what ruin wil seize them and their friends?
23 Queste cose ancora sono pei sapienti: il fare accettazione di persone in giudizio, non è cosa buona.	23 The fol owing are also taken from the sages: To show partiality in judgement is not good.
24 Quelli, che all'empio dicono: Tu se' giusto, saran maledetti dai popoli, e detestati dalle tribù.	24 Whoever tells the wicked, 'You are upright,' peoples curse him, nations revile him;
25 Quelli, che lo condannano saranno lodati, e sopra di essi verrà la benedizione.	25 but those who correct him, come out of it wel , on them will come a happy blessing.
26 Colui che risponde secondo la verità, da un bacio sulla bocca.	26 Whoever returns an honest answer, plants a kiss on the lips.
27 Metti in buon ordine fuori il tuo lavoro, e coltiva diligentemente il tuo campo, e poi fabbricherai la tua casa.	27 Plan what you want on the open ground, make your preparation in the field; then go and build yourhouse.
28 Non volere senza motivo render testimonianza contro il tuo prossimo, e non adular nissuno colle tue labbra.	28 Do not bear witness lightly against your neighbour, nor deceive with your lips.
29 Non dire: Farò a lui quello, che ha fatto a me: renderò a ciascheduno secondo le sue azioni.	29 Do not say, 'I wil treat my neighbour as my neighbour treated me; I will repay everyone what eachhas earned.'
30 Passai pel campo di un infingardo, e per la vigna di un uomo stolto,	30 By the idler's field I was passing, by the vineyard of a man who had no sense,
31 E vidi, come tutto era pieno di ortica, e le spine l'avean coperta quant'ell è grande, e la muraglia a secco era rovinata.	31 there it al lay, deep in thorns, entirely overgrown with weeds, and its stone wal broken down.
32 Veduta tal cosa, la riposi nel mio cuore, e con tal esempio imparai a ben regolarmi.	32 And as I gazed I pondered, I drew this lesson from the sight,
33 E dissi: Un poco tu dormirai, un altro poco ti appisolerai, un pochetto starai colle mani in mano per riposarti;	33 'A little sleep, a little drowsiness, a little folding of the arms to lie back
34 E ti sopravverrà, come un corriere, la indigenza, e la mendicità, come un uomo armato.	34 and poverty comes like a vagrant, and, like a beggar, dearth.'
