Siracide 4

BIBBIA TINTORI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Figlio, non defraudare al povero l'elemosina e non rivolgere dall'indigente gli occhi tuoi.	1 My child, do not refuse the poor a livelihood, do not tantalise the needy.
2 Non disprezzare colui che ha fame, e non inasprire il povero nella sua indigenza.	2 Do not add to the sufferings of the hungry, do not bait anyone in distress.
3 Non affliggere il cuore del meschino, e non differire il soccorso a chi è nelle angustie.	3 Do not aggravate a heart already angry, nor keep the destitute waiting for your alms.
4 Non rigettare la preghiera del tribolato, e non rivolgere la faccia dal bisognoso.	4 Do not repulse a hard-pressed beggar, nor turn your face from the poor.
5 Non rivolgere gli occhi tuoi dal mendico per sdegno, non dare occasione di maledirti dietro le spalle a quei che ti pregano.	5 Do not avert your eyes from the needy, give no one occasion to curse you;
6 Perchè l'imprecazione di chi ti maledice nell'amarezza dell'anima sarà esaudita: l'ascolterà colui che lo creò.	6 for if someone curses you in distress, his Maker will give ear to the imprecation.
7 Renditi affabile alla folla dei poveri, umiliati di cuore dinanzi all'anziano, e dinanzi al grande abbassa la testa.	7 Gain the love of the community, in the presence of the great bow your head.
8 Porgi senza annoiarti l'orecchio ai povero, soddisfa il tuo debito, e rispondi a lui con benignità e mansuetudine.	8 To the poor lend an ear, and courteously return the greeting.
9 Libera dalla mano del superbo colui che soffre ingiuria, e non sia ciò gravoso all'anima tua.	9 Save the oppressed from the hand of the oppressor, and do not be mean-spirited in your judgements.
10 Nel giudicare sii misericordioso qual padre verso gli orfani, e tieni luogo di marito alla loro madre,	10 Be like a father to the fatherless and as good as a husband to their mothers. And you wil be like a childto the Most High, who will love you more than your own mother does.
11 e tu sarai come un figlio obbediente dell'Altissimo ed Egli avrà compassione di te più d'una madre.	11 Wisdom brings up her own children and cares for those who seek her.
12 La sapienza ispira la vita ai suoi figli, prende sotto la sua protezione quelli che la cercano, e va loro innanzi nella via della giustizia.	12 Whoever loves her loves life, those who seek her early wil be fil ed with joy.
13 Chi ama lei ama la vita, e chi veglia per lei godrà della sua pace.	13 Whoever possesses her wil inherit honour, and wherever he walks the Lord will bless him.
14 Chi la possiede avrà in eredità la vita, e dovunque entrerà vi sarà la benedizio ne di Dio.	14 Those who serve her minister to the Holy One, and the Lord loves those who love her.
15 Chi la serve obbedirà al Santo, e chi l'ama è amato da Dio.	15 Whoever obeys her rules the nations, whoever pays attention to her dwells secure.
16 Chi l'ascolta giudicherà le nazioni, e chi in lei tien fisso lo sguardo starà sicuro.	16 If he trusts himself to her he wil inherit her, and his descendants will remain in possession of her;
17 Se crederà in lei l'avrà in eredità, che sarà confermata ai suoi discendenti;	17 for though she takes him at first through winding ways, bringing fear and faintness on him, trying himout with her discipline til she can trust him, and testing him with her ordeals,
18 perchè lo accompagna nella prova. Prima di tutto lo sceglie,	18 she then comes back to him on the straight road, makes him happy and reveals her secrets to him.
19 poi manderà sopra di lui timori, paure e prove, lo tormenterà colla sferza della sua disciplina, finché non l'abbia provato nei suoi pensieri, e non possa fidarsi di lui.	19 If he goes astray, however, she abandons him and leaves him to his own destruction.
20 Essa gli darà stabilità, tornerà a lui per diritto cammino e lo renderà contento.	20 Take circumstances into account and beware of evil, and have no cause to be ashamed of yourself;
21 Scoprirà a lui i suoi arcani, metterà in lui tesori di scienza e d'intelligenza della giustizia.	21 for there is a shame that leads to sin and a shame that is honourable and gracious.
22 Ma se egli uscirà di strada, essa l'abbandonerà, e lo lascierà in mano del suo nemico.	22 Do not be too severe on yourself, do not let shame lead you to ruin.
23 Figlio, bada al tempo e schi va il male.	23 Do not refrain from speaking when it will do good, and do not hide your wisdom;
24 Per l'anima tua non ti vergognare di dire la verità;	24 for your wisdom is made known by what you say, your erudition by the words you utter.
25 perchè vi è una vergogna che porta al peccato e una vergogna che fa onore e rende graditi.	25 Do not contradict the truth, rather blush for your own ignorance.
26 Non usar riguardi colle persone a tuo dànno, e non dire menzogne contro l'anima tua.	26 Do not be ashamed to confess your sins, do not struggle against the current of the river.
27 Non aver riguardi al tuo prossimo nelle sue cadute.	27 Do not grovel to the foolish, do not show partiality to the influential.
28 Non rattener la parola quando è salutare, non celar la tua sapienza nella sua bellezza;	28 Fight to the death for truth, and the Lord God wil war on your side.
29 perchè per mezzo della lingua si fa conoscere la sapienza e per mezzo della parola assennata il buon senso, la scienza e la dottrina. Ma il fondamento sta nelle opere di giustizia.	29 Do not be bold of tongue, yet idle and slack in deed;
30 Non contraddire in verun modo alla parola di verità, e arrossisci della falsità detta per ignoranza.	30 do not be like a lion at home, or cowardly towards your servants.
31 Non ti vergognare di confessare i tuoi peccati, e non ti sottomettere ad ogni uomo per il peccato.	31 Do not let your hands be outstretched to receive, yet tight-fisted when the time comes to give back.
32 Non resistere in faccia al potente, non ti sforzare per opporti all'impeto della corrente.
33 Ma per la giustizia, per l'anima tua lotta con tutte le tue forze, combatti fino alla morte per la giustizia, e Dio combatterà per te contro i tuoi nemici.
34 Non essere lesto nel parlare e buono a nulla o negligente nel lavorare.
35 Non fare il leone in casa tua mettendo a soqquadro la famiglia e opprimendo i tuoi sottoposti.
36 Non sia la tua mano aperta a prendere e chiusa a dare.
