1 Giobbe rispose, con dire:	1 Then Job answered by saying:
2 « Anche ora le mie parole son piene d'amarezza; e la mano che mi piaga è più grave dei miei gemiti.	2 Now again my conversation is in bitterness, and the force of my scourging weighs more heavily on me because of my mourning.
3 Oh! sapessi come trovarlo, come giungere fino al suo trono!	3 Who will grant me that I might know and find him, and that I may approach even to his throne?
4 Esporrei dinanzi a lui la mia causa ed avrei piena di querela la mia bocca.	4 I would place judgment before his eye, and my mouth would fill with criticism,
5 E vorrei sapere che potrebbe oppormi, e capire quel che avrebbe da dirmi.	5 so that I may know the words that he will answer me and understand what he will say to me.
6 Ma non vorrei che Egli contendesse meco colla sua gran potenza, e mi schiacciasse sotto il peso della sua grandezza.	6 I do not want him to contend with me with much strength, nor to overwhelm me with the bulk of his greatness.
7 Proponga contro di me l'equità, e la mia causa otterrà vittoria.	7 Let him show fairness in response to me, and let my judgment reach to victory.
8 Ma se io vo' verso l'oriente, Egli non comparisce, se vado verso l'occidente non lo vedo.	8 If I go to the east, he does not appear; if I go to the west, I will not understand him.
9 Se a sinistra, che devo fare, non trovandolo? Se a destra, non lo vedrò.	9 If I turn to the left, what can I do? I will not take hold of him. If I turn myself to the right, I will not see him.
10 Ma Egli conosce la mia condotta, Egli m'ha provato come l'oro attraverso il fuoco,	10 Truly, he knows my way and has tested me like gold that passes through fire.
11 il mio piede ha seguite le sue orme; sono stato sempre nella sua vìa, senza allontanarmi da essa,	11 My feet have been following his footsteps; I have kept to his way and have not strayed from it.
12 non mi sono allontanato dai precetti delle sue labbra, ed ho riposte nel mio cuore le parole della sua bocca.	12 I have not withdrawn from the commands of his lips, and the words of his mouth I have hidden in my sinews.
13 Ma Egli solo è, e nessuno può turbare i suoi disegni. Egli ha fatto ciò che ha voluto.	13 For he is alone, and no one is able to disturb his intention; and whatever his spirit wills, that he accomplishes.
14 Quando Egli avrà compita su di me la sua volontà, avrà ancora gran numero di simili mezzi a sua disposizione.	14 And when he fulfills his will in me, many other similar ones will also be present with him.
15 Per questo io mi turbo alla sua presenza, e quando penso a lui son preso dallo spavento.	15 And, for this reason, I have been troubled at his presence, and, when I consider him, I am approached by fear.
16 Dio mi strugge il cuore, l'Onnipotente mi spaventa.	16 God has weakened my heart, and the Almighty has confused me.
17 Ma io non perisco per tenebre che mi opprimano, e la caligine non ha coperta la mia faccia ».	17 Yet I have not perished because of the threatening darkness, nor has gloom covered my face.
