BIBBIA CEI 2008	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Se ti hanno fatto capotavola, non esaltarti. Compòrtati con gli altri come uno di loro. Pensa a loro e poi mettiti a tavola;	1 Have they made you the presider? Do not let it go to your head, behave like everyone else in the party,see that they are happy and then sit down yourself.
2 quando avrai compiuto il tuo dovere, accòmodati per far festa con loro e ricevere complimenti per le tue buone maniere.	2 Having discharged your duties, take your place so that your joy may be through theirs, and you mayreceive the crown for your competence.
3 Parla, o anziano, poiché ti si addice, ma con saggezza, e non disturbare la musica.	3 Speak, old man -- it is proper that you should -- but with discretion: do not spoil the music.
4 Quando c’è un’esecuzione non effonderti in chiacchiere, e non fare il sapiente fuori tempo.	4 If someone is singing, do not ramble on and do not play the sage at the wrong moment.
5 Sigillo di rubino su ornamento d’oro è un concerto musicale in un banchetto.	5 An amber seal on a precious stone, such is a concert of music at a wine feast.
6 Sigillo di smeraldo in una guarnizione d’oro è la melodia dei canti unita alla dolcezza del vino.	6 An emerald seal in a golden setting, such are strains of music with a vintage wine.
7 Parla, o giovane, se c’è bisogno di te, non più di due volte se sei interrogato.	7 Speak, young man, when you must, but twice at most, and then only if questioned.
8 Compendia il tuo discorso, molte cose in poche parole; compòrtati come uno che sa e che tace a un tempo.	8 Keep to the point, say much in few words; give the impression of knowing but not wanting to speak.
9 Fra i grandi non mostrarti presuntuoso, e dove vi sono anziani, non ciarlare troppo.	9 Among eminent people do not behave as though you were their equal; do not make frivolous remarkswhen someone else is speaking.
10 Prima del tuono viene la folgore, prima dell’uomo modesto viene la grazia.	10 Lightning comes before the thunder, favour goes ahead of a modest person.
11 All’ora stabilita àlzati e non restare per ultimo, corri a casa e non indugiare.	11 Leave in good time, do not bring up the rear, and hurry home without loitering.
12 Là divèrtiti e fa’ quello che ti piace, ma non peccare con parole arroganti.	12 There amuse yourself, and do what you have a mind to, but do not sin by arrogant talk.
13 Per tutto ciò benedici chi ti ha creato, chi ti colma dei suoi benefici.	13 And for all this bless your Creator, who intoxicates you with his favours.
14 Chi teme il Signore ne accetta l’istruzione, chi lo ricerca di buon mattino trova il suo favore.	14 Whoever fears the Lord wil accept his correction; those who look for him wil win his favour.
15 Chi scruta la legge viene appagato, ma l’ipocrita vi trova motivo di scandalo.	15 Whoever seeks the Law wil be nourished by it, the hypocrite will find it a stumbling-block.
16 Quelli che temono il Signore sanno giudicare, i loro giudizi brillano come luce.	16 Those who fear the Lord win his approval, their good deeds shining like a light.
17 Il peccatore non accetta critiche e trova scuse a suo piacere.	17 The sinner waves reproof aside, he finds an excuse for headstrong behaviour.
18 Chi è saggio non trascura la riflessione, l’empio e il superbo non provano alcun timore.	18 A sensible person never scorns a warning; foreigners and the proud do not know about fear.
19 Non fare nulla senza consiglio, non ti pentirai di averlo fatto.	19 Never act without reflection, and you wil not regret your actions.
20 Non camminare in una via piena di ostacoli e non inciamperai in luoghi pietrosi.	20 Do not venture on a rough road, for fear of stumbling over the stones.
21 Non fidarti di una via senza inciampi,	21 Do not be over-confident on an even road
22 guàrdati anche dai tuoi figli.	22 and beware of your own children.
23 In tutto ciò che fai abbi fiducia in te stesso, perché anche questo è osservare i comandamenti.	23 Watch yourself in everything you do; this is also the way to keep the commandments.
24 Chi crede alla legge è attento ai comandamenti, chi confida nel Signore non subirà alcun danno.	24 Anyone who trusts in the Law obeys its precepts, no one who has confidence in the Lord wil come toharm.
