BIBBIA CEI 1974	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Eliu continuò a dire:	1 Elihu continued his speech. He said:
2 Ascoltate, saggi, le mie parole e voi, sapienti, porgetemi l'orecchio,	2 And now, you sages, listen to what I say, lend me your ears, you learned men.
3 Perché l'orecchio distingue le parole, come il palato assapora i cibi.	3 The ear distinguishes the value of what is said, just as the palate can tel one food from another.
4 Esploriamo noi ciò che è giusto, indaghiamo fra di noi quale sia il bene:	4 Let us consider together God's ruling and decide what we all mean by good.
5 poiché Giobbe ha detto: "Io son giusto, ma Dio mi ha tolto il mio diritto;	5 Job has been saying, 'I am upright and God denies me fair judgement.
6 contro il mio diritto passo per menzognero, inguaribile è la mia piaga benché senza colpa".	6 My judge is treating me cruel y, my wound is incurable, for no fault of mine.'
7 Chi è come Giobbe che beve, come l'acqua, l'insulto,	7 Can anyone else exist like Job, who laps up mockery like water,
8 che fa la strada in compagnia dei malfattori, andando con uomini iniqui?	8 who consorts with evil-doers and marches in step with the wicked?
9 Poiché egli ha detto: "Non giova all'uomo essere in buona grazia con Dio".	9 Did he not say, 'No one derives any benefit from enjoying the society of God'?
10 Perciò ascoltatemi, uomini di senno: lungi da Dio l'iniquità e dall'Onnipotente l'ingiustizia!	10 Listen to me then, like intel igent people. Far be evil from God or injustice from Shaddai!
11 Poiché egli ripaga l'uomo secondo il suo operato e fa trovare ad ognuno secondo la sua condotta.	11 For he pays people back for what they do, treating each as his own conduct deserves.
12 In verità, Dio non agisce da ingiusto e l'Onnipotente non sovverte il diritto!	12 Be sure of it: God never does wrong, Shaddai does not pervert what is just.
13 Chi mai gli ha affidato la terra e chi ha disposto il mondo intero?	13 Did someone else entrust the world to his care was he given charge of the universe by someoneelse?
14 Se egli richiamasse il suo spirito a sé e a sé ritraesse il suo soffio,	14 If he were to recal his spirit, to concentrate his breath back in himself,
15 ogni carne morirebbe all'istante e l'uomo ritornerebbe in polvere.	15 all flesh would instantly perish and al people would return to dust.
16 Se hai intelletto, ascolta bene questo, porgi l'orecchio al suono delle mie parole.	16 If you have any intel igence, listen to this, lend your ear to the sound of my words.
17 Può mai governare chi odia il diritto? E tu osi condannare il Gran Giusto?	17 Could an enemy of fair judgement ever govern? Would you dare condemn the Upright One, theAlmighty,
18 lui che dice ad un re: "Iniquo!" e ai principi: "Malvagi!",	18 who says to a king, 'You are a scoundrel!' and to nobles, 'You are wicked!',
19 lui che non usa parzialità con i potenti e non preferisce al povero il ricco, perché tutti costoro sono opera delle sue mani?	19 who is unimpressed by princes and makes no distinction between rich and poor, since al alike havebeen made by him?
20 In un istante muoiono e nel cuore della notte sono colpiti i potenti e periscono; e senza sforzo rimuove i tiranni,	20 They die suddenly, at dead of night, they perish -- these great ones -- and disappear: it costs him noeffort to remove a tyrant.
21 poiché egli tiene gli occhi sulla condotta dell'uomo e vede tutti i suoi passi.	21 For his eyes keep watch on human ways, and he observes every step.
22 Non vi è tenebra, non densa oscurità, dove possano nascondersi i malfattori.	22 No darkness, no shadow dark as death where wrong-doers can hide!
23 Poiché non si pone all'uomo un termine per comparire davanti a Dio in giudizio:	23 He serves no writ on anyone, no summons to appear before God's court:
24 egli fiacca i potenti, senza fare inchieste, e colloca altri al loro posto.	24 he breaks the powerful without enquiry and sets up others in their places.
25 Poiché conosce le loro opere, li travolge nella notte e sono schiacciati;	25 He knows the sort of things they do! He overthrows them at night, to be trampled on.
26 come malvagi li percuote, li colpisce alla vista di tutti;	26 He beats them like criminals chained up for al to see,
27 perché si sono allontanati da lui e di tutte le sue vie non si sono curati,	27 since they have turned their backs on him, having understood so little of his ways
28 sì da far giungere fino a lui il grido dell'oppresso e fargli udire il lamento dei poveri.	28 as to make the cries of the weak rise to him and let him hear the appeal of the afflicted.
29 Se egli tace, chi lo può condannare? Se vela la faccia, chi lo può vedere? Ma sulle nazioni e sugli individui egli veglia,	29 But if he is stil silent and no one can move him, if he veils his face, so that no one can see him, he istaking pity on nations and individuals,
30 perché non regni un uomo perverso, perché il popolo non abbia inciampi.	30 is setting some wrong-doer free from the meshes of affliction.
31 Si può dunque dire a Dio: "Porto la pena, senza aver fatto il male;	31 When such a one says to God, 'I was misled, I shal not do wrong any more;
32 se ho peccato, mostramelo; se ho commesso l'iniquità, non lo farò più"?	32 although I have sinned, instruct me; although I did wrong, I will not do it again,'
33 Forse, secondo le tue idee dovrebbe ricompensare, perché tu rifiuti il suo giudizio? Poiché tu devi scegliere, non io, di', dunque, quello che sai.	33 in your opinion, should he punish such a one -- you who have rejected his decisions? This is for youto decide -- not for me!- so kindly enlighten us!
34 Gli uomini di senno mi diranno con l'uomo saggio che mi ascolta:	34 Ordinary sensible people, however, wil say to me, and so wil any sage who has been listening tome,
35 "Giobbe non parla con sapienza e le sue parole sono prive di senno".	35 'Job's words are spoken without any knowledge, what he says shows no intel igence.
36 Bene, Giobbe sia esaminato fino in fondo, per le sue risposte da uomo empio,	36 Kindly examine him thoroughly, since his answers imply that he is a criminal.
37 perché aggiunge al suo peccato la rivolta, in mezzo a noi batte le mani e moltiplica le parole contro Dio.	37 For to his sin he now adds rebellion, bringing law to an end among us and heaping abuse on God.'
