| 1 Guai a voi, figli ribelli — oracolo di Jahvè — che eseguite decisioni che non sono le mie, consacrate alleanze ma non secondo il mio spinto; così che aggiungete peccato a peccato. | 1 "Woe to the rebellious children," says the LORD, "who carry out a plan, but not mine; and who make a league, but not of my spirit, that they may add sin to sin; |
| 2 Siete partiti per discendere in Egitto, senza interrogarmi, per rifugiarvi sotto la protezione del Faraone e per ripararvi sotto l’ombra dell’Egitto. | 2 who set out to go down to Egypt, without asking for my counsel, to take refuge in the protection of Pharaoh, and to seek shelter in the shadow of Egypt! |
| 3 La protezione del Faraone sarà la vostra ignominia e il riparo all’ombra dell’Egitto la vostra onta. | 3 Therefore shall the protection of Pharaoh turn to your shame, and the shelter in the shadow of Egypt to your humiliation. |
| 4 Quando i suoi capi saranno giunti in Zoan e i messaggeri avranno raggiunto Khanes, | 4 For though his officials are at Zoan and his envoys reach Hanes, |
| 5 tutti saranno delusi da un popolo inutile, che non apporterà aiuto né utilità ma solo ignominia e vergogna. | 5 every one comes to shame through a people that cannot profit them, that brings neither help nor profit, but shame and disgrace." |
| 6 Oracolo sulle bestie del Negheb. Attraverso una terra di angoscia e di miseria, di leonesse e di leoni ruggenti, di vipere e di draghi volanti, essi portano la loro ricchezza sul dorso di asini, i loro tesori sulla gobba di cammelli, a un popolo inutile. | 6 An oracle on the beasts of the Negeb. Through a land of trouble and anguish, from where come the lioness and the lion, the viper and the flying serpent, they carry their riches on the backs of asses, and their treasures on the humps of camels, to a people that cannot profit them. |
| 7 Vano e nullo è l’aiuto dell’Egitto, per questo lo chiamo Rahab l’oziosa. | 7 For Egypt's help is worthless and empty, therefore I have called her "Rahab who sits still." |
| 8 Orsù, vieni, scrivi questo su una tavola dinanzi a essi, incìdilo sul bronzo, affinché resti per il futuro una testimonianza perpetua. | 8 And now, go, write it before them on a tablet, and inscribe it in a book, that it may be for the time to come as a witness for ever. |
| 9 Poiché questo è un popolo ribelle, sono figli bugiardi, figli che non vogliono udire la legge di Jahvè. | 9 For they are a rebellious people, lying sons, sons who will not hear the instruction of the LORD; |
| 10 I quali dicono ai veggenti: «Non abbiate visioni!» e ai profeti: «Non profetateci il vero, diteci cose piacevoli, profetateci illusioni! | 10 who say to the seers, "See not"; and to the prophets, "Prophesy not to us what is right; speak to us smooth things, prophesy illusions, |
| 11 Deviate dalla retta via! Uscite dal sentiero! Smettete di porre innanzi a noi il Santo di Israele!» | 11 leave the way, turn aside from the path, let us hear no more of the Holy One of Israel." |
| 12 Pertanto così dice il Santo di Israele: «Poiché voi rigettate questo oracolo e confidate nella perversità e nella perfidia, ponendole a vostro sostegno, | 12 Therefore thus says the Holy One of Israel, "Because you despise this word, and trust in oppression and perverseness, and rely on them; |
| 13 questo delitto diverrà simile a una breccia che minaccia rovina, che fa pancia in un alto muro, il cui crollo avviene in un attimo, improvviso, | 13 therefore this iniquity shall be to you like a break in a high wall, bulging out, and about to collapse, whose crash comes suddenly, in an instant; |
| 14 la cui rottura sarà come quella di una giarra, frantumata senza misericordia, così da non trovarsi tra i suoi frantumi neppure un coccio con cui si possa prendere fuoco dal braciere o attingere acqua dalla cisterna». | 14 and its breaking is like that of a potter's vessel which is smashed so ruthlessly that among its fragments not a sherd is found with which to take fire from the hearth, or to dip up water out of the cistern." |
| 15 Poiché così dice il Signore Jahvè, il Santo di Israele: «Dalla conversione e dalla calma dipende la vostra salvezza, dalla quiete e dalla fiducia dipende la vostra forza». Ma voi non avete voluto, | 15 For thus said the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel, "In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength." And you would not, |
| 16 anzi avete detto: «No! perché noi fuggiremo su cavalli» — ebbene, fuggite pure — «cavalcheremo su destrieri veloci» — ebbene molto più veloci saranno i vostri inseguitori —. | 16 but you said, "No! We will speed upon horses," therefore you shall speed away; and, "We will ride upon swift steeds," therefore your pursuers shall be swift. |
| 17 Mille si spaventeranno per la minaccia di uno, per la minaccia di cinque fuggirete fino a ridurvi così pochi come un’antenna sulla cima di un monte e come un’asta su una collina. | 17 A thousand shall flee at the threat of one, at the threat of five you shall flee, till you are left like a flagstaff on the top of a mountain, like a signal on a hill. |
| 18 Eppure Jahvè brama di farvi grazia, per questo si alza, per aver pietà di voi, perché un Dio giusto è Jahvè; beati coloro che sperano in lui! | 18 Therefore the LORD waits to be gracious to you; therefore he exalts himself to show mercy to you. For the LORD is a God of justice; blessed are all those who wait for him. |
| 19 Sì, popolo di Sion che abiti in Gerusalemme, tu non dovrai piangere più; alla voce della tua supplica ti farà grazia, appena udrà ti risponderà. | 19 Yea, O people in Zion who dwell at Jerusalem; you shall weep no more. He will surely be gracious to you at the sound of your cry; when he hears it, he will answer you. |
| 20 Ti dia pure il Signore il pane dell’afflizione e l’acqua della tribolazione, ma non si terrà più nascosto il tuo maestro; i tuoi occhi vedranno il tuo maestro, | 20 And though the Lord give you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, yet your Teacher will not hide himself any more, but your eyes shall see your Teacher. |
| 21 le tue orecchie udranno annunciare dietro di te: «Questa è la strada, percorretela!» qualora andaste a destra o a sinistra. | 21 And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, "This is the way, walk in it," when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left. |
| 22 Considererai cose impure le tue immagini scolpite d’argento, e i tuoi idoli rivestiti d’oro getterai via come un’immondezza. «Fuori!» tu dirai loro. | 22 Then you will defile your silver-covered graven images and your gold-plated molten images. You will scatter them as unclean things; you will say to them, "Begone!" |
| 23 Egli darà la pioggia per la semente con cui avrai seminato il suolo; il pane, prodotto della terra, sarà pingue e sostanzioso; in quel giorno il tuo bestiame pascolerà su un vasto prato. | 23 And he will give rain for the seed with which you sow the ground, and grain, the produce of the ground, which will be rich and plenteous. In that day your cattle will graze in large pastures; |
| 24 I buoi e gli asini che lavorano la terra mangeranno biada saporita, ventilata con la pala e il ventilabro. | 24 and the oxen and the asses that till the ground will eat salted provender, which has been winnowed with shovel and fork. |
| 25 E avverrà che, su ogni monte e su ogni colle elevato, scorreranno canali e torrenti d’acqua nel giorno della grande strage quando cadranno le torri. | 25 And upon every lofty mountain and every high hill there will be brooks running with water, in the day of the great slaughter, when the towers fall. |
| 26 La luce della luna sarà come la luce del sole e la luce del sole sarà sette volte di più, nel giorno in cui Jahvè curerà la ferita del suo popolo e guarirà la piaga prodotta dalle sue percosse. | 26 Moreover the light of the moon will be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun will be sevenfold, as the light of seven days, in the day when the LORD binds up the hurt of his people, and heals the wounds inflicted by his blow. |
| 27 Ecco, il nome di Jahvè viene da lontano, ardente è la sua ira, grande sarà lo scoppio; le sue labbra sono piene di sdegno, la sua lingua è come un fuoco vorace. | 27 Behold, the name of the LORD comes from far, burning with his anger, and in thick rising smoke; his lips are full of indignation, and his tongue is like a devouring fire; |
| 28 Il suo soffio è come un torrente che straripa, il quale giunge fino al collo. Viene per vagliare i popoli con un vaglio che annienta e per porre fra le mascelle dei popoli un freno insidioso. | 28 his breath is like an overflowing stream that reaches up to the neck; to sift the nations with the sieve of destruction, and to place on the jaws of the peoples a bridle that leads astray. |
| 29 Il vostro canto si innalzerà come nella notte in cui si celebra la festa; avrete una gioia cordiale come chi al suono del flauto va sul monte di Jahvè, alla rocca di Israele. | 29 You shall have a song as in the night when a holy feast is kept; and gladness of heart, as when one sets out to the sound of the flute to go to the mountain of the LORD, to the Rock of Israel. |
| 30 Jahvè farà udire la sua voce maestosa e mostrerà come colpisce il suo braccio nel furore della collera, in mezzo a un fuoco vorace, fra nembi, tempesta e grandine furiosa. | 30 And the LORD will cause his majestic voice to be heard and the descending blow of his arm to be seen, in furious anger and a flame of devouring fire, with a cloudburst and tempest and hailstones. |
| 31 Poiché alla voce di Jahvè tremerà l’Assiria, quando sarà percossa con la verga. | 31 The Assyrians will be terror-stricken at the voice of the LORD, when he smites with his rod. |
| 32 E ogni colpo del bastone punitivo, che Jahvè le farà piombare addosso sarà accompagnato con tamburelli e cetre. Egli combatterà contro di essa con battaglie tumultuose; | 32 And every stroke of the staff of punishment which the LORD lays upon them will be to the sound of timbrels and lyres; battling with brandished arm he will fight with them. |
| 33 poiché è pronta da tempo la Tofet; è pronta, profonda e larga, sul suo rogo c’è fuoco e legna in quantità; la infiammerà, come torrente di zolfo, il soffio di Jahvè. | 33 For a burning place has long been prepared; yea, for the king it is made ready, its pyre made deep and wide, with fire and wood in abundance; the breath of the LORD, like a stream of brimstone, kindles it. |
