| 1 Poi Dio si ricordò di Noè, di tutte le fiere e di tutto il bestiame che erano con lui nell’arca; Dio fece passare un vento sulla terra e le acque si abbassarono. | 1 But God had Noah in mind, and al the wild animals and all the cattle that were with him in the ark. Godsent a wind across the earth and the waters began to subside. |
| 2 Le fonti dell’abisso e le cateratte del cielo furono chiuse e fu trattenuta la pioggia dal cielo; | 2 The springs of the deep and the sluices of heaven were stopped up and the heavy rain from heavenwas held back. |
| 3 le acque andarono via via ritirandosi dalla terra e vennero meno le acque dopo centocinquanta giorni, | 3 Little by little, the waters ebbed from the earth. After a hundred and fifty days the waters fel , |
| 4 Nel settimo mese, il diciassette del mese, l’arca si posò sui monti dell’Ararat. | 4 and in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, the ark came to rest on the mountainsof Ararat. |
| 5 Le acque andarono via, via diminuendo fino al decimo mese. Nel decimo mese, il primo giorno del mese, si videro le vette dei monti. | 5 The waters gradual y fell until the tenth month when, on the first day of the tenth month, the mountaintops appeared. |
| 6 Dopo quaranta giorni; Noè aprì la finestra che’ aveva fatto nell’arca e rilasciò il corvo, per vedere se le acque fossero scomparse. | 6 At the end of forty days Noah opened the window he had made in the ark |
| 7 Esso uscì, andando e tornando, finché non si prosciugarono le acque sulla terra. | 7 and released a raven, which flew back and forth as it waited for the waters to dry up on earth. |
| 8 Noè aspettò sette giorni, poi rilasciò la colomba per vedere se le acque fossero scomparse sulla faccia della terra; | 8 He then released a dove, to see whether the waters were receding from the surface of the earth. |
| 9 ma. la colomba non trovò dove posare la pianta del piede e tornò da lui nell’arca, Perchè c'erano acque sulla faccia di tutta la terra. Egli stese la mano, la prese e. se la tirò dentro l’arca. | 9 But the dove, finding nowhere to perch, returned to him in the ark, for there was water over the wholesurface of the earth; putting out his hand he took hold of it and brought it back into the ark with him. |
| 10 Aspettò altri sette giorni e di nuovo rilasciò la colomba fuori dell’arca: | 10 After waiting seven more days, he again released the dove from the ark. |
| 11 la colomba tornò da lui sul far della sera ed, ecco, aveva una fronda novella di olivo nel becco; così Noè capì che le acque erano prosciugate sopra la terra. | 11 In the evening, the dove came back to him and there in its beak was a freshly-picked olive leaf! SoNoah realised that the waters were receding from the earth. |
| 12 Aspettò tuttavia altri sette giorni, poi rilasciò la colomba; ma essa non tornò più da lui. | 12 After waiting seven more days, he released the dove, and now it returned to him no more. |
| 13 L’anno seicentouno della vita di Noè, il primo mese, il primo giorno del mese, le acque si erano ritirate dalla superficie della terra. Noè scoperchiò l’arca, guardò, ed ecco, la superficie della terra era asciutta. | 13 It was in the six hundred and first year of Noah's life, in the first month and on the first of the month,that the waters began drying out on earth. Noah lifted back the hatch of the ark and looked out. The surface ofthe ground was dry! |
| 14 Nel secondo mese, il ventisette del mese, la terra era secca. | 14 In the second month, on the twenty-seventh day of the month, the earth was dry. |
| 15 Dio parlò a Noè: | 15 Then God said to Noah, |
| 16 « Esci dall’arca tu e tua moglie, i tuoi figli e le mogli dei tuoi figli con te. | 16 'Come out of the ark, you, your wife, your sons, and your sons' wives with you. |
| 17 Fa uscire con te tutti gli animali di ogni carne che hai con te, volatili, bestiame e tutti i rettili che strisciano sulla terra, perchè possano brulicare sulla terra, siano fecondi e si moltiplichino sulla terra ». | 17 Bring out all the animals with you, all living things, the birds, the cattle and al the creeping things thatcreep along the ground, for them to swarm on earth, for them to breed and multiply on earth.' |
| 18 Uscì dunque Noè con i figli, con la moglie e con le mogli dei suoi figli. | 18 So Noah came out with his sons, his wife, and his sons' wives. |
| 19 E tutte le fiere, tutto il bestiame e tutti i volatili e tutti i rettili che strisciano sulla terra, secondo le loro famiglie, uscirono dall’arca. | 19 And al the wild animals, al the cattle, al the birds and al the creeping things that creep along theground, came out of the ark, one species after another. |
| 20 Allora Noè edificò un altare a Jahve, prese ogni sorta di animali puri e ogni sorta di volatili puri e offrì olocausti sull’altare. | 20 Then Noah built an altar to Yahweh and, choosing from al the clean animals and all the clean birds hepresented burnt offerings on the altar. |
| 21 Jahve ne odorò la soave fragranza e Jahve disse nel suo cuore: «Io non maledirò più la terra a causa dell’uomo, perchè l’istinto del cuore umano è malvagio fin dall’adolescenza; e non colpirò più ogni essere vivente come ho fatto. | 21 Yahweh smelt the pleasing smell and said to himself, 'Never again wil I curse the earth because ofhuman beings, because their heart contrives evil from their infancy. Never again wil I strike down every livingthing as I have done. |
| 22 Finchè la terra durerà, semente e raccolta, freddo e caldo, estate e inverno, giorno e notte, non cesseranno mai». | 22 As long as earth endures: seed-time and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and nightwil never cease.' |
