Siracide 18

BIBBIA MARTINI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Colui, che vive in eterno, creò tutte insieme le cose. Iddio solo sarà riconosciuto giusto, ed egli è il Re invincibile, che sussiste in eterno.	1 He who lives for ever has created the sum of things.
2 Chi è capace di raccontare le opere fatte da lui?	2 The Lord alone wil be found just.
3 Ma chi può penetrare le sue meraviglie?	3
4 E la onnipotente grandezza di lui chi mai la spiegherà? O chi tenterà di riferire le sue misericordie?	4 He has given no one the power to proclaim his works to the end, and who can fathom his magnificentdeeds?
5 Nulla v'è da levare, né da aggiungere alle mirabili opere di Dio, e queste sono incomprensibili.	5 Who can assess his magnificent strength, and who can go further and tel al of his mercies?
6 Quando l'uomo avrà finito, allora sarà da capo, e quando si fermerà, sarà, nell'incertezza.	6 Nothing can be added to them, nothing subtracted, it is impossible to fathom the marvels of the Lord.
7 Che è l'uomo? ed a che può egli esser utile? e che è il bene, o il male di lui?	7 When someone finishes he is only beginning, and when he stops he is as puzzled as ever.
8 Il numero de' giorni dell'uomo al più di cento anni: come una goccia di acqua marina, e come un granello d'arena, così son questi pochi anni al di dell'eternità.	8 What is a human being, what purpose does he serve? What is good and what is bad for him?
9 Per questo il Signore è paziente con essi, e versa sopra di loro la sua misericordia.	9 The length of his life: a hundred years at most.
10 Vede egli la presunzione del loro cuore cattiva, e la perdizione loro, che è deplorabile.	10 Like a drop of water from the sea, or a grain of sand, such are these few years compared with eternity.
11 Per questo una piena benignità, usa con essi, e mostra loro la via dell'equità.	11 This is why the Lord is patient with them and pours out his mercy on them.
12 La compassione dell'uomo è verso il suo prossimo; ma la misericordia di Dio ad ogni carne si estende.	12 He sees and recognises how wretched their end is, and so he makes his forgiveness the greater.
13 Egli ha misericordia, e gli ammaestra, e li guida come fa un pastor col suo gregge.	13 Human compassion extends to neighbours, but the Lord's compassion extends to everyone; rebuking,correcting and teaching, bringing them back as a shepherd brings his flock.
14 Egli è benigno con quegli, che ascoltano il magistero della misericordia, e sono solleciti nell'eseguire i suoi precetti.	14 He has compassion on those who accept correction, and who fervently search for his judgements.
15 Figliuolo, non aggiugnere al benefizio i rimproveri, e al dono, che tu facci, non unire l'asprezza di male parole.	15 My child, do not temper your favours with blame nor any of your gifts with words that hurt.
16 Non è egli vero, che la rugiada tempera il caldo? così pure la buona parola vai più del dono.	16 Does not dew relieve the heat? In the same way a word is worth more than a gift.
17 Non vedi tu, che la parola vai più del dono? ma l'uomo giusto ha l'una, e l'altra cosa.	17 Why surely, a word is better than a good present, but a generous person is ready with both.
18 Lo stolto fa degli odiosi rimproveri, e il dono dell'uomo mal costumato fa strugger gli occhi.	18 A fool wil offer nothing but insult, and a grudging gift makes the eyes smart.
19 Prima del giudizio assicurati di tua giustizia, e prima di parlare, impara.	19 Learn before you speak, take care of yourself before you fal ill.
20 Prima di cadere in languore prendi la medicina, e prima del giudizio disamina te stesso, e dinanzi a Dio troverai misericordia.	20 Examine yourself before judgement comes, and on the day of visitation you will be acquitted.
21 Prima di cader nella malattia umiliati, e nel tempo di tua infermità fa conoscere la tua conversione.	21 Humble yourself before you fall il , repent as soon as the sin is committed.
22 Nissuna cosa ti ritenga dal sempre orare, e non dubitare di far opere di giustizia fino alla morte: perocché la mercede di Dio dura in eterno.	22 Let nothing prevent your discharging a vow in good time, and do not wait till death to set matters right.
23 Prima dell'orazione prepara l'anima tua, non essere come uno, che tenti Dio.	23 Prepare yourself before making a vow, and do not be like someone who tempts the Lord.
24 Ricordati dell'ira (che verrà) nel di finale, e del tempo della retribuzione, quando (Dio) cangerà di visaggio.	24 Bear in mind the retribution of the last days, the time of vengeance when God averts his face.
25 Ricordati della povertà nel tempo di abbondanza, e delle miserie della povertà nel tempo di ricchezza.	25 In a time of plenty remember times of famine, think of poverty and want when you are rich.
26 Dal mattino alla sera il tempo si cambierà, e tutto quesio si fa ben presto sotto gli occhi di Dio.	26 The time slips by between dawn and dusk, everything passes quickly for the Lord.
27 L'uomo saggio teme di tutto; e ne' giorni de' peccati si guarderà dalla negligenza.	27 The wise wil be cautious in everything, in sinful times wil take care not to offend.
28 Ogni uomo sensato sa distinguere la saggezza, e da lode a chi l'ha trovata.	28 Every person of sense recognises wisdom, and wil respect anyone who has found her.
29 Gli uomini giudiziosi si diportano con prudenza nel parlare, e intendono la verità, e la giustizia, e spargono quasi pioggia proverbi, e sentenze.	29 Those who understand sayings have toiled for their wisdom and have poured out accurate maxims.
30 Non andar dietro alle tue cupidità, e raffrena i tuoi appetiti.	30 Do not be governed by your passions, restrain your desires.
31 Se soddisfarai le cupidità dell'anima tua, ella farà, che abbian di te allegrezza i tuoi nemici.	31 If you al ow yourself to satisfy your desires, this wil make you the laughing-stock of your enemies.
32 Non prender piacere ai tumulti, anche di piccol momento; perocché vi ai trovano conflitti perpetui.	32 Do not indulge in luxurious living, do not get involved in such society.
33 Guardati dall'impoverire prendendo a usura per contendere, mentre hai vuoto il sacchetto; perocché saresti ingiusto contro la tua propria vita.	33 Do not beggar yourself by banqueting on credit when there is nothing in your pocket.
