BIBBIA MARTINI	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 Colui, che vive in eterno, creò tutte insieme le cose. Iddio solo sarà riconosciuto giusto, ed egli è il Re invincibile, che sussiste in eterno.	1 He that liveth for ever created all things together. God only shall be justified, and he remaineth an invincible king for ever.
2 Chi è capace di raccontare le opere fatte da lui?	2 Who is able to declare his works?
3 Ma chi può penetrare le sue meraviglie?	3 For who shall search out his glorious acts?
4 E la onnipotente grandezza di lui chi mai la spiegherà? O chi tenterà di riferire le sue misericordie?	4 And who shall shew forth the power of his majesty? or who shall be able to declare his mercy?
5 Nulla v'è da levare, né da aggiungere alle mirabili opere di Dio, e queste sono incomprensibili.	5 Nothing may be taken away, nor added, neither is it possible to find out the glorious works of God:
6 Quando l'uomo avrà finito, allora sarà da capo, e quando si fermerà, sarà, nell'incertezza.	6 When a man hath done, then shall he begin: and when he leaveth off, he shall be at a loss.
7 Che è l'uomo? ed a che può egli esser utile? e che è il bene, o il male di lui?	7 What is man, and what is his grace? and what is his good, or what is his evil?
8 Il numero de' giorni dell'uomo al più di cento anni: come una goccia di acqua marina, e come un granello d'arena, così son questi pochi anni al di dell'eternità.	8 The number of the days of men at the most are a hundred years: as a drop of water of the sea are they esteemed: and as a pebble of the sand, so are a few years compared to eternity.
9 Per questo il Signore è paziente con essi, e versa sopra di loro la sua misericordia.	9 Therefore God is patient in them, and poureth forth his mercy upon them.
10 Vede egli la presunzione del loro cuore cattiva, e la perdizione loro, che è deplorabile.	10 He hath seen the presumption of their heart that it is wicked, and hath known their end that it is evil.
11 Per questo una piena benignità, usa con essi, e mostra loro la via dell'equità.	11 Therefore bath he filled up his mercy in their favour, and hath shewn them the way of justice.
12 La compassione dell'uomo è verso il suo prossimo; ma la misericordia di Dio ad ogni carne si estende.	12 The compassion of man is toward his neighbour: but the mercy of God is upon all flesh.
13 Egli ha misericordia, e gli ammaestra, e li guida come fa un pastor col suo gregge.	13 He hath mercy, and teacheth, and correcteth, as a shepherd doth his hock.
14 Egli è benigno con quegli, che ascoltano il magistero della misericordia, e sono solleciti nell'eseguire i suoi precetti.	14 He hath mercy on him that receiveth the discipline of mercy, and that maketh haste in his judgments.
15 Figliuolo, non aggiugnere al benefizio i rimproveri, e al dono, che tu facci, non unire l'asprezza di male parole.	15 My son, in thy good deeds, make no complaint, and when thou givest any thing, add not grief by an evil word.
16 Non è egli vero, che la rugiada tempera il caldo? così pure la buona parola vai più del dono.	16 Shall not the dew assuage the heat? so also the good word is better than the gift.
17 Non vedi tu, che la parola vai più del dono? ma l'uomo giusto ha l'una, e l'altra cosa.	17 Lo, is not a word better than a gift? but both are with a justified man.
18 Lo stolto fa degli odiosi rimproveri, e il dono dell'uomo mal costumato fa strugger gli occhi.	18 A fool will upbraid bitterly: and a gift of one ill taught consumeth the eyes.
19 Prima del giudizio assicurati di tua giustizia, e prima di parlare, impara.	19 Before judgment prepare thee justice, and learn before thou speak.
20 Prima di cadere in languore prendi la medicina, e prima del giudizio disamina te stesso, e dinanzi a Dio troverai misericordia.	20 Before sickness take a medicine, and before judgment examine thyself, and thou shalt find mercy in the sight of God.
21 Prima di cader nella malattia umiliati, e nel tempo di tua infermità fa conoscere la tua conversione.	21 Humble thyself before thou art sick, and in the time of sickness shew thy conversation.
22 Nissuna cosa ti ritenga dal sempre orare, e non dubitare di far opere di giustizia fino alla morte: perocché la mercede di Dio dura in eterno.	22 Let nothing hinder thee from praying always, and be not afraid to be justified even to death: for the reward of God continueth for ever.
23 Prima dell'orazione prepara l'anima tua, non essere come uno, che tenti Dio.	23 Before prayer prepare thy soul: and be not as a man that tempteth God.
24 Ricordati dell'ira (che verrà) nel di finale, e del tempo della retribuzione, quando (Dio) cangerà di visaggio.	24 Remember the wrath that shall be at the last day, and the time of repaying when he shall turn away his face.
25 Ricordati della povertà nel tempo di abbondanza, e delle miserie della povertà nel tempo di ricchezza.	25 Remember poverty is the time of abundance, and the necessities of poverty in the day of riches.
26 Dal mattino alla sera il tempo si cambierà, e tutto quesio si fa ben presto sotto gli occhi di Dio.	26 From the morning until the evening the time shall be changed, and all these are swift in the eyes of God.
27 L'uomo saggio teme di tutto; e ne' giorni de' peccati si guarderà dalla negligenza.	27 A wise man will fear in every thing, and in the days of sine will beware of sloth.
28 Ogni uomo sensato sa distinguere la saggezza, e da lode a chi l'ha trovata.	28 Every man of understanding knoweth wisdom, and will give praise to him that findeth her.
29 Gli uomini giudiziosi si diportano con prudenza nel parlare, e intendono la verità, e la giustizia, e spargono quasi pioggia proverbi, e sentenze.	29 They that were of good understanding in words, have also done wisely themselves: and have understood truth and justice, and have poured forth proverbs and judgments.
30 Non andar dietro alle tue cupidità, e raffrena i tuoi appetiti.	30 Go not after thy lusts, but turn away from thy own will.
31 Se soddisfarai le cupidità dell'anima tua, ella farà, che abbian di te allegrezza i tuoi nemici.	31 If thou give to thy soul her desires, she will make thee a joy to thy enemies.
32 Non prender piacere ai tumulti, anche di piccol momento; perocché vi ai trovano conflitti perpetui.	32 Take no pleasure in riotous assemblies, be they ever so small: for their concertation is continual.
33 Guardati dall'impoverire prendendo a usura per contendere, mentre hai vuoto il sacchetto; perocché saresti ingiusto contro la tua propria vita.	33 Make not thyself poor by borrowing to contribute to feasts when thou hast nothing in thy purse : for thou shalt be an enemy to thy own life.
