Siracide 18

BIBBIA MARTINI	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Colui, che vive in eterno, creò tutte insieme le cose. Iddio solo sarà riconosciuto giusto, ed egli è il Re invincibile, che sussiste in eterno.	1 The Eternal is the judge of all things without exception; the LORD alone is just.
2 Chi è capace di raccontare le opere fatte da lui?	2 Whom has he made equal to describing his works, and who can probe his mighty deeds?
3 Ma chi può penetrare le sue meraviglie?	3 Who can measure his majestic power, or exhaust the tale of his mercies?
4 E la onnipotente grandezza di lui chi mai la spiegherà? O chi tenterà di riferire le sue misericordie?	4 One cannot lessen, nor increase, nor penetrate the wonders of the LORD.
5 Nulla v'è da levare, né da aggiungere alle mirabili opere di Dio, e queste sono incomprensibili.	5 When a man ends he is only beginning, and when he stops he is still bewildered.
6 Quando l'uomo avrà finito, allora sarà da capo, e quando si fermerà, sarà, nell'incertezza.	6 What is man, of what worth is he? the good, the evil in him, what are these?
7 Che è l'uomo? ed a che può egli esser utile? e che è il bene, o il male di lui?	7 The sum of a man's days is great if it reaches a hundred years:
8 Il numero de' giorni dell'uomo al più di cento anni: come una goccia di acqua marina, e come un granello d'arena, così son questi pochi anni al di dell'eternità.	8 Like a drop of sea water, like a grain of sand, so are these few years among the days of eternity.
9 Per questo il Signore è paziente con essi, e versa sopra di loro la sua misericordia.	9 That is why the LORD is patient with men and showers upon them his mercy.
10 Vede egli la presunzione del loro cuore cattiva, e la perdizione loro, che è deplorabile.	10 He sees and understands that their death is grievous, and so he forgives them all the more.
11 Per questo una piena benignità, usa con essi, e mostra loro la via dell'equità.	11 Man may be merciful to his fellow man, but the LORD'S mercy reaches all flesh,
12 La compassione dell'uomo è verso il suo prossimo; ma la misericordia di Dio ad ogni carne si estende.	12 Reproving, admonishing, teaching, as a shepherd guides his flock;
13 Egli ha misericordia, e gli ammaestra, e li guida come fa un pastor col suo gregge.	13 Merciful to those who accept his guidance, who are diligent in his precepts.
14 Egli è benigno con quegli, che ascoltano il magistero della misericordia, e sono solleciti nell'eseguire i suoi precetti.	14 My son, to your charity add no reproach, nor spoil any gift by harsh words.
15 Figliuolo, non aggiugnere al benefizio i rimproveri, e al dono, che tu facci, non unire l'asprezza di male parole.	15 Like dew that abates a burning wind, so does a word improve a gift.
16 Non è egli vero, che la rugiada tempera il caldo? così pure la buona parola vai più del dono.	16 Sometimes the word means more than the gift; both are offered by a kindly man.
17 Non vedi tu, che la parola vai più del dono? ma l'uomo giusto ha l'una, e l'altra cosa.	17 Only a fool upbraids before giving; a grudging gift wears out the expectant eyes.
18 Lo stolto fa degli odiosi rimproveri, e il dono dell'uomo mal costumato fa strugger gli occhi.	18 Be informed before speaking; before sickness prepare the cure.
19 Prima del giudizio assicurati di tua giustizia, e prima di parlare, impara.	19 Before you are judged, seek merit for yourself, and at the time of visitation you will have a ransom.
20 Prima di cadere in languore prendi la medicina, e prima del giudizio disamina te stesso, e dinanzi a Dio troverai misericordia.	20 Before you have fallen, humble yourself; when you have sinned, show repentance.
21 Prima di cader nella malattia umiliati, e nel tempo di tua infermità fa conoscere la tua conversione.	21 Delay not to forsake sins, neglect it not till you are in distress.
22 Nissuna cosa ti ritenga dal sempre orare, e non dubitare di far opere di giustizia fino alla morte: perocché la mercede di Dio dura in eterno.	22 Let nothing prevent the prompt payment of your vows; wait not to fulfill them when you are dying.
23 Prima dell'orazione prepara l'anima tua, non essere come uno, che tenti Dio.	23 Before making a vow have the means to fulfill it; be not one who tries the LORD.
24 Ricordati dell'ira (che verrà) nel di finale, e del tempo della retribuzione, quando (Dio) cangerà di visaggio.	24 Think of wrath and the day of death, the time of vengeance when he will hide his face.
25 Ricordati della povertà nel tempo di abbondanza, e delle miserie della povertà nel tempo di ricchezza.	25 Remember the time of hunger in the time of plenty, poverty and want in the day of wealth.
26 Dal mattino alla sera il tempo si cambierà, e tutto quesio si fa ben presto sotto gli occhi di Dio.	26 Between morning and evening the weather changes; before the LORD all things are fleeting.
27 L'uomo saggio teme di tutto; e ne' giorni de' peccati si guarderà dalla negligenza.	27 A wise man is circumspect in all things; when sin is rife he keeps himself from wrongdoing.
28 Ogni uomo sensato sa distinguere la saggezza, e da lode a chi l'ha trovata.	28 Any learned man should make wisdom known, and he who attains to her should declare her praise;
29 Gli uomini giudiziosi si diportano con prudenza nel parlare, e intendono la verità, e la giustizia, e spargono quasi pioggia proverbi, e sentenze.	29 Those trained in her words must show their wisdom, dispensing sound proverbs like life-giving waters.
30 Non andar dietro alle tue cupidità, e raffrena i tuoi appetiti.	30 Go not after your lusts, but keep your desires in check.
31 Se soddisfarai le cupidità dell'anima tua, ella farà, che abbian di te allegrezza i tuoi nemici.	31 If you satisfy your lustful appetites they will make you the sport of your enemies.
32 Non prender piacere ai tumulti, anche di piccol momento; perocché vi ai trovano conflitti perpetui.	32 Have no joy in the pleasures of a moment which bring on poverty redoubled;
33 Guardati dall'impoverire prendendo a usura per contendere, mentre hai vuoto il sacchetto; perocché saresti ingiusto contro la tua propria vita.	33 Become not a glutton and a winebibber with nothing in your purse.
