1 Come la neve all'estate, e le pioggie al tempo di segatura, così male sta allo stolto la gloria.	1 Snow no more befits the summer, nor rain the harvest-time, than honours befit a fool.
2 La maldicenza scagliata senza ragione sopra di alcuno, è come un uccello, che svolazza qua, e là, e come un passerotto, che salta per ogni parte	2 As the sparrow escapes, and the swal ow flies away, so the undeserved curse will never hit its mark.
3 La frusta pel cavallo, la cavezza per l'asino, la verga pel dosso degli stolti	3 A whip for the horse, a bridle for the donkey, and for the backs of fools, a stick.
4 Non rispondere allo stolto secondo la sua stoltezza per non diventar simil a lui.	4 Do not answer a fool in the terms of his fol y for fear you grow like him yourself.
5 Rispondi allo stolto, come esige la sua stoltezza, affinchè egli non abbia a credersi saggio.	5 Answer a fool in the terms of his fol y for fear he imagine himself wise.

7 Come uno stroppiato in darno ha belli gli stinchi, cosi non istan bene le gravi sentenze in bocca dello stolto.	7 Unreliable as the legs of the lame, so is a proverb in the mouth of fools.
8 Chi onora lo stolto fa come chi getta la sua pietra nel mucchio dedicato a Mercurio.	8 As wel tie the stone to the sling as pay honour to a fool.
9 La parabola in bocca allo stolto come una spina, che spuntasse nella mano d'un briaco.	9 A thorn branch in a drunkard's hand, such is a proverb in the mouth of fools.
10 La sentenza del giudice finisce le iti, e chi fa tacere lo stolto calma gli sdegni.	10 An archer wounding everyone, such is he who hires the passing fool and drunkard.
11 Lo stolto che ricade nella sua stoltezza è come il cane, che torna a quel, che avea vomitato.	11 As a dog returns to its vomit, so a fool reverts to his fol y.
12 Hai tu veduto un uomo, che si crede sapiente? più di lui può avere speranza quegli, che non sa nulla.	12 You see someone who thinks himself wise? More to be hoped for from a fool than from him!
13 Il pigro dice: Nella strada havvi un lione, e al capo della strada una lionessa.	13 'A wild beast on the road!' says the idler, 'a lion in the streets!'
14 Come la porta si volge su' suoi cardini, così il pigro nel suo letto.	14 The door turns on its hinges, the idler on his bed.
15 Il pigro si nasconde la mano sotto l'ascella: è gran fatica per lui il portarla alla bocca.	15 Into the dish the idler dips his hand, but is too tired to bring it back to his mouth.
16 Il pigro si crede più sapiente, che sette uomini, che pronunciano sentenze.	16 The idler thinks himself wiser than seven people who answer with discretion.

24 Al suo parlare si riconose il nemico, quando macchina inganni in cuor a suo.	24 Whoever hates may hide it in speech, but deep within lies treachery;
25 Allorché egli abbassa sua voce, o non te ne fidare, perocché egli ha sette iniquità in cuor suo.	25 do not trust such a person's pretty speeches, since in the heart lurk seven abominations.
26 Si scoprirà nella pubblica adunanza la malizia di colui, il quale con finzione nasconde la sua mala volontà.	26 Hatred may disguise itself with guile, to reveal its wickedness later in the assembly.
27 Chi scava la fossa vi caderà, e la pietra cadrà addosso a chi l'ha smossa.	27 Whoever digs a pit fal s into it, the stone comes back on him that rol s it.
28 La lingua dell'ingannatore non ama la verità, e la bocca adulatrìce è a cagion di rovine.	28 The lying tongue hates its victims, the wheedling mouth causes ruin.
