1 Come la neve all'estate, e le pioggie al tempo di segatura, così male sta allo stolto la gloria.	1 As snow in summer, and rain in harvest, so glory is not seemly for a fool.
2 La maldicenza scagliata senza ragione sopra di alcuno, è come un uccello, che svolazza qua, e là, e come un passerotto, che salta per ogni parte	2 As a bird flying to other places, and a sparrow going here or there: so a curse uttered without cause shall come upon a man.
3 La frusta pel cavallo, la cavezza per l'asino, la verga pel dosso degli stolti	3 A whip for a horse, and a snaffle for an ass, and a rod for the back of fools.
4 Non rispondere allo stolto secondo la sua stoltezza per non diventar simil a lui.	4 Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou be made like him.
5 Rispondi allo stolto, come esige la sua stoltezza, affinchè egli non abbia a credersi saggio.	5 Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he imagine himself to be wise.
6 Chi pe' suoi affari spedisce un messo stolto, si taglia le gambe, e bee gli errori di quello.	6 He that sendeth words by a foolish messenger, is lame of feet and drinketh iniquity.
7 Come uno stroppiato in darno ha belli gli stinchi, cosi non istan bene le gravi sentenze in bocca dello stolto.	7 As a lame man hath fair legs in vain: so a parable is unseemly in the mouth of fools.
8 Chi onora lo stolto fa come chi getta la sua pietra nel mucchio dedicato a Mercurio.	8 As he that casteth a stone into the heap of Mercury: so is he that giveth honour to a fool.
9 La parabola in bocca allo stolto come una spina, che spuntasse nella mano d'un briaco.	9 As if a thorn should grow in the hand of a drunkard: so is a parable in the mouth of fools.
10 La sentenza del giudice finisce le iti, e chi fa tacere lo stolto calma gli sdegni.	10 Judgment determineth causes: and he that putteth a fool to silence, appeaseth anger.
11 Lo stolto che ricade nella sua stoltezza è come il cane, che torna a quel, che avea vomitato.	11 As a dog that returneth to his vomit, so is the fool that repeateth his folly.
12 Hai tu veduto un uomo, che si crede sapiente? più di lui può avere speranza quegli, che non sa nulla.	12 Hast thou seen a man wise in his own conceit? there shall be more hope of a fool than of him.
13 Il pigro dice: Nella strada havvi un lione, e al capo della strada una lionessa.	13 The slothful man saith: There is a lion in the way, and a lioness in the roads.
14 Come la porta si volge su' suoi cardini, così il pigro nel suo letto.	14 As the door turneth upon its hinges, so doth the slothful upon his bed.
15 Il pigro si nasconde la mano sotto l'ascella: è gran fatica per lui il portarla alla bocca.	15 The slothful hideth his hand under his armpit, and it grieveth him to turn it to his mouth.
16 Il pigro si crede più sapiente, che sette uomini, che pronunciano sentenze.	16 The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit, than seven men that speak sentences.
17 Chi in passando si impaccia temerariamente nelle altrui contese, è come chi prende un cane per le orecchie.	17 As he that taketh a dog by the ears, so is he that passeth by in anger, and meddleth with another man's quarrel.
18 Come è reo chi scaglia saette, e dardi mortiferi;	18 As he is guilty that shooteth arrows, and lances unto death :
19 Così colui che fa danno con frode all'amico, e quando viene ad essere o scoperto, dice: Non l'ho fatto con mal fine.	19 So is the man that hurteth his friend deceitfully: and when he is taken, saith: I did it in jest.
20 Al mancar delle legna si spegne il fuoco, e tolto via il soffione si calmano le contese.	20 When the wood faileth, the fire shall go out: and when the talebearer is taken away, contentions shall cease.
21 Come i carboni danno il fuoco, e la legna la fiamma, cosi l'uomo iracondo accende le risse.	21 As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire, so an angry man stirreth up strife.
22 Le parole del soffione paiono semplici, ma elle penetrano nell'intimo delle viscere,	22 The words of a talebearer are as it were simple, but they reach to the innermost parts of the belly.
23 Le labbra turgide congiunte con pessimo cuore, son come argento impuro, col quale tu pretenda di ornare un vaso di terra cotta.	23 Swelling lips joined with a corrupt heart, are like an earthen vessel adorned with silver dross.
24 Al suo parlare si riconose il nemico, quando macchina inganni in cuor a suo.	24 An enemy is known by his lips, when in his heart he entertaineth deceit.
25 Allorché egli abbassa sua voce, o non te ne fidare, perocché egli ha sette iniquità in cuor suo.	25 When he shall speak low, trust him not: because there are seven mischiefs in his heart.
26 Si scoprirà nella pubblica adunanza la malizia di colui, il quale con finzione nasconde la sua mala volontà.	26 He that covereth hatred deceitfully, his malice shall be laid open in the public assembly.
27 Chi scava la fossa vi caderà, e la pietra cadrà addosso a chi l'ha smossa.	27 He that diggeth a pit, shall fall into it: and he that rolleth a stone, it shall return to him.
28 La lingua dell'ingannatore non ama la verità, e la bocca adulatrìce è a cagion di rovine.	28 A deceitful tongue loveth not truth: and a slippery mouth worketh ruin.
