1 Il figlio saggio (accoglie) gl'insegnamenti del padre, ma lo schernitore non sta a sentire quando si corregge.	1 A wise son loves correction, but the senseless one heeds no rebuke.
2 Per i frutti della sua bocca l'uomo sarà saziato di beni, ma l'anima dei prevaricatori è iniqua.	2 From the fruit of his words a man eats good things, but the treacherous one craves violence.
3 Chi custodisce la sua bocca, custodisce l'anima sua, chi è avventato nel parlare sentirà dei guai.	3 He who guards his mouth protects his life; to open wide one's lips brings downfall.
4 Il pigro vuole e non vuole, ma l'anima di chi lavora sarà nell'abbondanza.	4 The soul of the sluggard craves in vain, but the diligent soul is amply satisfied.
5 Il giusto detesterà la parola menzognera, l'empio confonde e sarà confuso.	5 Anything deceitful the just man hates, but the wicked brings shame and disgrace.
6 La giustizia protegge i passi dell'innocente, ma l'empietà manda in rovina il peccatore.	6 Virtue guards one who walks honestly, but the downfall of the wicked is sin.
7 Uno fa il ricco e non ha niente, l'altro fa il povero in mezzo a moìte ricchezze.	7 One man pretends to be rich, yet has nothing; another pretends to be poor, yet has great wealth.
8 Colle sue ricchezze il ricco riscatta la sua vita, ma chi è povero va esente da minacce.	8 A man's riches serve as ransom for his life, but the poor man heeds no rebuke.
9 La luce dei giusti rallegra, ma la lucerna degli empi si estinguerà.	9 The light of the just shines gaily, but the lamp of the wicked goes out.
10 Tra i superbi son continue le risse; quelli che fan tutto con consiglio si governano con sapienza.	10 The stupid man sows discord by his insolence, but with those who take counsel is wisdom.
11 Le ricchezze ammassate in fretta scemeranno, quelle raccolte a poco a poco saran moltiplicate.	11 Wealth quickly gotten dwindles away, but amassed little by little, it grows.
12 La speranza differita, affligge lo spirito; il desiderio adempito è albero di vita.	12 Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a wish fulfilled is a tree of life.
13 Chi parla male d'una cosa si fa debitore per l'avvenire, chi rispetta il precetto starà in pace. Le anime ingannatrici si smarriscono tra i peccati, invece i giusti son misericordiosi e pieni di compassione.	13 He who despises the word must pay for it, but he who reveres the commandment will be rewarded.
14 L'insegnamento del sapiente è fonte di vita e fa evitare la rovina delta morte.	14 The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life, that a man may avoid the snares of death.
15 La buona dottrina ronderà graditi; sulla via degli schernitori v'è la voragine.	15 Good sense brings favor, but the way of the faithless is their ruin.
16 L'uomo accorto fa tutto con consiglio, ma l'insensato fa conoscere la sua stoltezza.	16 The shrewd man does everything with prudence, but the fool peddles folly.
17 Il messo dell'empio cadrà in guai, il messaggero fedele è di salvezza.	17 A wicked messenger brings on disaster, but a trustworthy envoy is a healing remedy.
18 Miseria e vergogna a chi fugge la correzione, chi dà retta a chi lo corregge sarà onorato.	18 Poverty and shame befall the man who disregards correction, but he who heeds reproof is honored.
19 Il desiderio appagato fa gioir l'anima, gli stolti detestano chi fugge il male.	19 Lust indulged starves the soul, but fools hate to turn from evil.
20 Chi va coi sapienti diventerà sapiente, l'amico degli stolti diventerà simile a loro.	20 Walk with wise men and you will become wise, but the companion of fools will fare badly.
21 Il male perseguita i peccatori, ai giusti sarà dato come ricompensa il bene.	21 Misfortune pursues sinners, but the just shall be recompensed with good.
22 L'uomo dabbene lascia eredi i figli e i nipoti, e saran riserbati al giusto i beni del peccatore.	22 The good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children, but the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the just.
23 Si trova abbondante nutrimento nei campi dissodati dai padri, senza giudizio si raccoglie per gli altri.	23 A lawsuit devours the tillage of the poor, but some men perish for lack of a law court.
24 Chi risparmia la verga odia il suo figliolo, chi lo ama ha premura di correggerlo.	24 He who spares his rod hates his son, but he who loves him takes care to chastise him.
25 Il giusto mangia e si sazia ma non è mai sazio il ventre degli empi.	25 When the just man eats, his hunger is appeased; but the belly of the wicked suffers want.
