| 1 David, vecchio e pieno di giorni, costituì Salomone suo figlio re sopra Israele, | 1 When David was old and full of days, he made Solomon his son king over Israel. |

| 3 I leviti furono numerati da trent'anni in su e ne furon trovati trentotto mila. | 3 The Levites, thirty years old and upward, were numbered, and the total was thirty-eight thousand men. |
| 4 Di questi, ventiquattro mila furono scelti e distribuiti nei ministeri della casa del Signore; sei mila furono magistrati e giudici. | 4 "Twenty-four thousand of these," David said, "shall have charge of the work in the house of the LORD, six thousand shall be officers and judges, |
| 5 Quattro mila eran portinai, altrettanti cantori, e cantavano al Signore sugli strumenti fatti da David per il canto. | 5 four thousand gatekeepers, and four thousand shall offer praises to the LORD with the instruments which I have made for praise." |
| 6 David li distribuì secondo le classi dei figli di Levi, cioè Gerson, Caat, Merari. | 6 And David organized them in divisions corresponding to the sons of Levi: Gershom, Kohath, and Merari. |
| 7 Figli di Gerson: Leedan, Semei. | 7 The sons of Gershom were Ladan and Shime-i. |
| 8 I figli di Leedan furon tre: Iahiel, il primo, Zetan, Ioel. | 8 The sons of Ladan: Jehiel the chief, and Zetham, and Joel, three. |

| 10 I figli di Semei furono quattro: Lehet, Ziza, Iaus, Baria: questi i figli di Semei. | 10 And the sons of Shime-i: Jahath, Zina, and Jeush, and Beriah. These four were the sons of Shime-i. |
| 11 Lehet era il primo, Ziza il secondo; ma Iaus e Baria non ebbero molti figli, e furon quindi contati come una sola casa ed una sola famiglia. | 11 Jahath was the chief, and Zizah the second; but Jeush and Beriah had not many sons, therefore they became a father's house in one reckoning. |
| 12 I figli di Caat furon quattro: Amram, Isaar, Hebron, Oziel. | 12 The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel, four. |
| 13 Figli di Amram: Aronne e Mosè. Aronne fu separato per servire nel Santo dei Santi, egli e i suoi figli in sempiterno, e per bruciare l'incenso al Signore secondo il suo rito, e per benedire in perpetuo il suo nome. | 13 The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses. | 15 Figli di Mosè: Gersom e Eliezer. | 15 The sons of Moses: Gershom and Eliezer. |
| 16 Figli di Gersom: Subuel, il primo. | 16 The sons of Gershom: Shebuel the chief. |
| 17 Figli di Eliezer: Rohobia, il primo. Eliezer non ebbe altri figli; ma i figli di Rohobia si moltiplicarono oltremodo. | 17 The sons of Eliezer: Rehabiah the chief; Eliezer had no other sons, but the sons of Rehabiah were very many. |
| 18 Figli d'Isaar: Salomit, il primo. | 18 The sons of Izhar: Shelomith the chief. |

| 22 Eleazaro morì senza figli; ma ebbe delle figlie, sposate dai figli di Cis loro fratelli. | 22 Eleazar died having no sons, but only daughters; their kinsmen, the sons of Kish, married them. |

| 24 Questi sono i figli di Levi, secondo le loro parentele e famiglie, e questi sono i capi che, per turno, e secondo il censimento fattone testa per testa, esercitavano gli uffici del ministero della casa del Signore dai vent'anni in su. | 24 These were the sons of Levi by their fathers' houses, the heads of fathers' houses as they were registered according to the number of the names of the individuals from twenty years old and upward who were to do the work for the service of the house of the LORD. |
| 25 Siccome David disse: « Il Signore Dio d'Israele ha dato al suo popolo riposo e l'abitazione di Gerusalemme in perpetuo, | 25 For David said, "The LORD, the God of Israel, has given peace to his people; and he dwells in Jerusalem for ever. |
| 26 i leviti non avran più l'ufficio di portare il Tabernacolo e tutti i suoi vasi destinati al ministero ». | 26 And so the Levites no longer need to carry the tabernacle or any of the things for its service"-- |
| 27 Secondo le ultime disposizioni di David, il numero dei leviti dovrà contarsi dai vent'anni in su, | 27 for by the last words of David these were the number of the Levites from twenty years old and upward-- |
| 28 e saran subordinati ai figli di Aronne per il culto della casa del Signore, nei cortili, nelle camere, nel luogo della purificazione, nel santuario, e in tutte le funzioni del ministero del tempio del Signore. | 28 "but their duty shall be to assist the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of the LORD, having the care of the courts and the chambers, the cleansing of all that is holy, and any work for the service of the house of God; |
| 29 I sacerdoti avranno la soprintendenza dei pani di proposizione, dei sacrifizi di fior di farina, delle schiacciate azzime, della padella, di quello che dev'essere arrostito, di tutti i pesi e le misure, | 29 to assist also with the showbread, the flour for the cereal offering, the wafers of unleavened bread, the baked offering, the offering mixed with oil, and all measures of quantity or size. |
| 30 I leviti si devono presentare la mattina a celebrare con canti il Signore, e così pure la sera, | 30 And they shall stand every morning, thanking and praising the LORD, and likewise at evening, |
| 31 tanto nell'oblazione degli olocausti del Signore, come nei giorni di sabato, nel primo del mese e nelle altre solennità, secondo il numero e le cerimonie prescritte per ciascuna cosa, in perpetuo, dinanzi al Signore. | 31 and whenever burnt offerings are offered to the LORD on sabbaths, new moons, and feast days, according to the number required of them, continually before the LORD. |
| 32 Devono osservare le ordinazioni relative al Tabernacolo dell'alleanza, il rito del santuario, gli ordini dei figli d'Aronne loro fratelli, per compiere il loro ministero nella casa del Signore. | 32 Thus they shall keep charge of the tent of meeting and the sanctuary, and shall attend the sons of Aaron, their brethren, for the service of the house of the LORD." |
