1 - Or ecco [la parte] toccata in sorte a Giuda secondo le sue famiglie: dai confini di Edom il deserto di Sin a mezzogiorno fino alla parte meridionale della regione.	1 The portion falling to the tribe of the sons of Judah, by clans, was near the frontier of Edom, from thedesert of Zin southwards to Kadesh in the south.
2 Essa comincia all'estremità del mare assai salato e dalla sua penisola situata a mezzogiorno.	2 Their southern frontier began at the tip of the Salt Sea, at the southerly bay;
3 Si protende quindi verso la salita dello Scorpione, passa da Sina, ascende in Cadesbarne, passa per Esron e sale verso Addar, circuisce Carcaa,	3 it proceeded south of the Ascent of Scorpions, crossed Zin and came up to Kadesh-Barnea from thesouth; past Hezron, it went on to Addar and turned towards Karka;
4 passa in seguito in Asemona e raggiunge il torrente d'Egitto per finire al Gran Mare. Questo è il confine meridionale.	4 the frontier then went on to Azmon, came out at the Torrent of Egypt and reached as far as the sea.This is to be your southern frontier.
5 Il confine orientale comincia dal mare assai salato fino alla foce del Giordano. Il confine settentrionale comincia dalla lingua del mare all'estremità del Giordano,	5 The eastern frontier was the Salt Sea as far as the mouth of the Jordan.
6 quindi sale a Bet Agla e passa a settentrione di Bet Araba salendo fino alla pietra di Boen figlio di Ruben.	6 The northern boundary began at the bay at the mouth of the Jordan. The boundary went up to Beth-Hoglah, passed north of Beth-ha-Arabah and went on to the Stone of Bohan son of Reuben.
7 Sale quindi a Debera dalla valle di Acor verso settentrione di fronte a Galgala, la quale è di fronte all'ascesa di Adommim a mezzogiorno del torrente. Passa quindi alle acque chiamate Fonte del sole e si protende fino alla Fonte di Rogel.	7 The boundary then went on to Debir from the Vale of Achor and turned north towards the stone circleopposite the Ascent of Adummim, which is south of the Torrent; the boundary went on to the Waters of En-Shemesh and came out at En-Rogel.
8 Ascende poi per la vallata del figlio di Ennom dalla parte meridionale del Jebuseo, cioè di Gerusalemme, donde raggiunge la sommità del monte che sta tra Geennom ad occidente e l'estremità settentrionale della valle di Rafaim.	8 It then went back up the Val ey of Hinnom, coming from the south to the flank of the Jebusite -- that is,Jerusalem -- and climbed to the crest of the mountain barring the Valley of Hinnom to the west, at the northernend of the Val ey of the Rephaim.
9 Dalla sommità del monte passa poi fino alla fontana dell'acqua di Neftoa, continua fino ai villaggi del monte Efron e scende a Baala, che è Cariatiarim, cioè la città delle selve.	9 From the mountain top, the boundary curved round to the spring of the Waters of Nephtoah, went on tothe towns of Mount Ephron and then turned towards Baalah -- that is, Kiriath-Jearim.
10 Gira ad occidente di Baala fino al monte di Seir, passa a nord del monte Jarim verso Cheslon e discende in Betsames, passa a Tamna	10 From Baalah, the boundary curved westwards to the highlands of Seir, skirted the northern slope ofMount Jearim -- that is, Chesalon -- went down to Beth-Shemesh and through Timnah,

12 Questi sono da tutte le parti i confini dei figli di Giuda secondo le loro famiglie.	12 The western boundary was the Great Sea itself. Such was the frontier surrounding the sons of Judah,by clans.
13 A Caleb figlio di Jefone fu data una porzione in mezzo ai figli di Giuda, come era stato comandato dal Signore, vale a dire Cariat Arbe padre di Enac, cioè Ebron.	13 Caleb son of Jephunneh was given a share within that of the sons of Judah, in accordance withYahweh's order to Joshua: Kiriath-Arba, the town of the father of Anak -- that is, Hebron.
14 Da questa città Caleb sterminò i tre figli di Enac, Sesai, Aiman e Tolmai discendenti di Enac.	14 Caleb drove out the three sons of Anak: Sheshai, Ahiman and Talmai, descended from Anak.
15 Quindi andando innanzi venne agli abitanti di Dabir, che prima si chiamava Cariat Sefer vale a dire città delle lettere.	15 From there he marched on the inhabitants of Debir; Debir in olden days was cal ed Kiriath-Sepher.
16 Caleb disse: «Chi avrà espugnato Cariat Sefer e l'avrà presa, avrà in moglie mia figlia Axa».	16 Caleb then said, 'To the man who attacks and takes Kiriath-Sepher, I shal give my daughter Achsahas wife.'
17 Otoniele figlio di Cenez, fratello minore di Caleb la espugnò e gli fu data in moglie Axa figlia di Caleb.	17 The man who captured it was Othniel son of Kenaz, brother of Caleb, who gave him his daughterAchsah as wife.
18 Andando essa insieme al marito fu da lui persuasa a chiedere al padre suo un campo. Mentre stava seduta su un asino essa emise un sospiro, perciò Caleb chiese che cosa avesse.	18 When she arrived, he urged her to ask her father for arable land, but when she alighted from thedonkey and Caleb asked her, 'What is the matter?'
19 Ed essa rispose: «Fammi un regalo. Mi hai dato una terra verso mezzogiorno priva di acqua, aggiungici anche un campo irriguo». E Caleb le diede un campo irriguo al di sopra e al di sotto.	19 she said to him, 'Grant me a blessing! As the land you have given me is the Negeb, give me springsof water too!' So Caleb gave her what she wanted, the upper springs and the lower springs.
