1 - Or ecco [la parte] toccata in sorte a Giuda secondo le sue famiglie: dai confini di Edom il deserto di Sin a mezzogiorno fino alla parte meridionale della regione.	1 The lot for the clans of the Judahite tribe fell in the extreme south toward the boundary of Edom, the desert of Zin in the Negeb.
2 Essa comincia all'estremità del mare assai salato e dalla sua penisola situata a mezzogiorno.	2 The boundary there ran from the bay that forms the southern end of the Salt Sea,
3 Si protende quindi verso la salita dello Scorpione, passa da Sina, ascende in Cadesbarne, passa per Esron e sale verso Addar, circuisce Carcaa,	3 southward below the pass of Akrabbim, across through Zin, up to a point south of Kadesh-barnea, across to Hezron, and up to Addar; from there, looping around Karka,
4 passa in seguito in Asemona e raggiunge il torrente d'Egitto per finire al Gran Mare. Questo è il confine meridionale.	4 it crossed to Azmon and then joined the Wadi of Egypt before coming out at the sea. (This is your southern boundary.)

7 Sale quindi a Debera dalla valle di Acor verso settentrione di fronte a Galgala, la quale è di fronte all'ascesa di Adommim a mezzogiorno del torrente. Passa quindi alle acque chiamate Fonte del sole e si protende fino alla Fonte di Rogel.	7 Thence it climbed to Debir, north of the vale of Achor, in the direction of the Gilgal that faces the pass of Adummim, on the south side of the wadi; from there it crossed to the waters of En-shemesh and emerged at En-rogel.
8 Ascende poi per la vallata del figlio di Ennom dalla parte meridionale del Jebuseo, cioè di Gerusalemme, donde raggiunge la sommità del monte che sta tra Geennom ad occidente e l'estremità settentrionale della valle di Rafaim.	8 Climbing again to the Valley of Ben-hinnom on the southern flank of the Jebusites (that is, Jerusalem), the boundary rose to the top of the mountain at the northern end of the Valley of Rephaim, which bounds the Valley of Hinnom on the west.
9 Dalla sommità del monte passa poi fino alla fontana dell'acqua di Neftoa, continua fino ai villaggi del monte Efron e scende a Baala, che è Cariatiarim, cioè la città delle selve.	9 From the top of the mountain it ran to the fountain of waters of Nephtoah, extended to the cities of Mount Ephron, and continued to Baalah, or Kiriath-jearim.
10 Gira ad occidente di Baala fino al monte di Seir, passa a nord del monte Jarim verso Cheslon e discende in Betsames, passa a Tamna	10 From Baalah the boundary curved westward to Mount Seir and passed north of the ridge of Mount Jearim (that is, Chesalon); thence it descended to Beth-shemesh, and ran across to Timnah.
11 ed a settentrione di Accaron, poi piega verso Secrona, passa il monte Baala e raggiunge Jebneel, terminando verso occidente col Gran Mare.	11 It then extended along the northern flank of Ekron, continued through Shikkeron, and across to Mount Baalah, thence to include Jabneel, before it came out at the sea.
12 Questi sono da tutte le parti i confini dei figli di Giuda secondo le loro famiglie.	12 The western boundary was the Great Sea and its coast. This was the complete boundary of the clans of the Judahites.
13 A Caleb figlio di Jefone fu data una porzione in mezzo ai figli di Giuda, come era stato comandato dal Signore, vale a dire Cariat Arbe padre di Enac, cioè Ebron.	13 As the LORD had commanded, Joshua gave Caleb, son of Jephunneh, a portion among the Judahites, namely, Kiriath-arba (Arba was the father of Anak), that is, Hebron.
14 Da questa città Caleb sterminò i tre figli di Enac, Sesai, Aiman e Tolmai discendenti di Enac.	14 And Caleb drove out from there the three Anakim, the descendants of Anak: Sheshai, Ahiman and Talmai.
15 Quindi andando innanzi venne agli abitanti di Dabir, che prima si chiamava Cariat Sefer vale a dire città delle lettere.	15 From there he marched up against the inhabitants of Debir, which was formerly called Kiriath-sepher.
16 Caleb disse: «Chi avrà espugnato Cariat Sefer e l'avrà presa, avrà in moglie mia figlia Axa».	16 Caleb said, "I will give my daughter Achsah in marriage to the one who attacks Kiriath-sepher and captures it."
17 Otoniele figlio di Cenez, fratello minore di Caleb la espugnò e gli fu data in moglie Axa figlia di Caleb.	17 Othniel, son of Caleb's brother Kenaz, captured it, and so Caleb gave him his daughter Achsah in marriage.
18 Andando essa insieme al marito fu da lui persuasa a chiedere al padre suo un campo. Mentre stava seduta su un asino essa emise un sospiro, perciò Caleb chiese che cosa avesse.	18 On the day of her marriage to Othniel, she induced him to ask her father for some land. Then, as she alighted from the ass, Caleb asked her, "What is troubling you?"
19 Ed essa rispose: «Fammi un regalo. Mi hai dato una terra verso mezzogiorno priva di acqua, aggiungici anche un campo irriguo». E Caleb le diede un campo irriguo al di sopra e al di sotto.	19 She answered, "Give me an additional gift! Since you have assigned to me land in the Negeb, give me also pools of water." So he gave her the upper and the lower pools.
