BIBBIA CEI 2008	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Vanto del cielo è il limpido firmamento, spettacolo celeste in una visione di gloria.	1 Pride of the heights, a clear vault of the sky -- such is the beauty of the heavens, a glorious sight.
2 Il sole, quando appare nel suo sorgere, proclama: «Che meraviglia è l’opera dell’Altissimo!».	2 The sun, as he emerges, proclaims at his rising, 'How wonderful a thing, the work of the Most High!'
3 A mezzogiorno dissecca la terra e di fronte al suo calore chi può resistere?	3 At his zenith, he parches the ground, who can withstand his blaze?
4 Si soffia nella fornace nei lavori a caldo, ma il sole brucia i monti tre volte tanto; emettendo vampe di fuoco, facendo brillare i suoi raggi, abbaglia gli occhi.	4 We have to blow the furnace to produce any heat, the sun burns the mountains three times as much;breathing out blasts of fire, flashing his rays, he dazzles the eyes.
5 Grande è il Signore che lo ha creato e con le sue parole ne affretta il corso.	5 Great is the Lord who created him and whose word speeds him on his course.
6 Anche la luna, sempre puntuale nelle sue fasi, regola i mesi e indica il tempo.	6 And then the moon, ever punctual to mark the times, an everlasting sign:
7 Viene dalla luna l’indicazione di ogni festa, fonte di luce che decresce fino a scomparire.	7 It is the moon that signals the feasts, a luminary that wanes after being ful .
8 Da essa il mese prende nome, mirabilmente crescendo secondo le sue fasi. È un’insegna per le schiere in alto, splendendo nel firmamento del cielo.	8 The month derives its name from hers, she waxes wonderful y in her phases, banner of the hosts onhigh, shining in the vault of heaven.
9 Bellezza del cielo è la gloria degli astri, ornamento che brilla nelle altezze del Signore.	9 The glory of the stars makes the beauty of the sky, a brilliant adornment of the Lord on High.
10 Stanno agli ordini di colui che è santo, secondo il suo decreto, non abbandonano le loro postazioni di guardia.	10 At the words of the Holy One they stand as he decrees, and never grow slack at their watch.
11 Osserva l’arcobaleno e benedici colui che lo ha fatto: quanto è bello nel suo splendore!	11 See the rainbow and praise its Maker, so superbly beautiful in its splendour.
12 Avvolge il cielo con un cerchio di gloria, lo hanno teso le mani dell’Altissimo.	12 Across the sky it forms a glorious arc drawn by the hands of the Most High.
13 Con il suo comando fa cadere la neve e fa guizzare i fulmini secondo il suo giudizio:	13 By his command he sends the snow, he speeds the lightning by his command.
14 per esso si aprono i tesori celesti e le nubi volano via come uccelli.	14 In the same way, his treasuries open and the clouds fly out like birds.
15 Con la sua potenza egli condensa le nuvole e si sminuzzano i chicchi di grandine.	15 His great power solidifies the clouds, then pulverises them into hail.
16 e al suo apparire sussultano i monti; secondo il suo volere soffia lo scirocco,	16 at the sight of him, the mountains quake. At his wil the south wind blows,or the storm from the northand the whirlwind.
	17 At the roar of his thunder, the earth writhes in labour,
18 L’occhio ammira la bellezza del suo candore e il cuore stupisce nel vederla fioccare.	18 He sprinkles snow like birds alighting, it comes down like locusts settling. The eye marvels at thebeauty of its whiteness, and the mind is amazed at its falling.
19 Riversa sulla terra la brina come sale, che gelandosi forma punte di spine.	19 Over the earth, like salt, he also pours hoarfrost, which, when it freezes, bristles like thorns.
20 Soffia la gelida tramontana, sull’acqua si condensa il ghiaccio; esso si posa sull’intera massa d’acqua, che si riveste come di corazza.	20 The cold wind blows from the north, and ice forms on the water; it forms on every piece of standingwater, covering it like a breastplate.
21 Egli divora i monti e brucia il deserto; come fosse fuoco, inaridisce l’erba.	21 The wind swal ows up the mountains and scorches the desert, like a fire it consumes the vegetation.
22 Rimedio di tutto è un annuvolamento improvviso, l’arrivo della rugiada ristora dal caldo.	22 But cloud brings swift healing, and dew brings joy after the heat.
23 Con la sua parola egli ha domato l’abisso e vi ha piantato le isole.	23 By his own resourcefulness he has tamed the abyss, and planted it with islands.
24 I naviganti del mare ne descrivono i pericoli, a sentirli con i nostri orecchi restiamo stupiti;	24 Those who sail the sea tell of its dangers, their accounts fill our ears with amazement:
25 là ci sono opere singolari e stupende, esseri viventi di ogni specie e mostri marini.	25 for there too exist strange and wonderful works, animals of every kind and huge sea creatures.
26 Per lui il suo messaggero compie un felice cammino, e per la sua parola tutto sta insieme.	26 Thanks to God, his messenger reaches port, everything works out according to his word.
27 Potremmo dire molte cose e mai finiremmo, ma la conclusione del discorso sia: «Egli è il tutto!».	27 We could say much more and stil fal short; to put it concisely, 'He is al .'
28 Come potremmo avere la forza per lodarlo? Egli infatti, il Grande, è al di sopra di tutte le sue opere.	28 Where shall we find sufficient power to glorify him, since he is the Great One, above al his works,
29 Il Signore è terribile e molto grande, meravigliosa è la sua potenza.	29 the awe-inspiring Lord, stupendously great, and wonderful in his power?
30 Nel glorificare il Signore, esaltatelo quanto più potete, perché non sarà mai abbastanza. Nell’esaltarlo moltiplicate la vostra forza, non stancatevi, perché non finirete mai.	30 Exalt the Lord in your praises as high as you may -- stil he surpasses you. Exert al your strengthwhen you exalt him, do not grow tired -- you wil never come to the end.
31 Chi lo ha contemplato e lo descriverà? Chi può magnificarlo come egli è?	31 Who has ever seen him to describe him? Who can glorify him as he deserves?
32 Vi sono molte cose nascoste più grandi di queste: noi contempliamo solo una parte delle sue opere.	32 Many mysteries remain even greater than these, for we have seen only a few of his works,
33 Il Signore infatti ha creato ogni cosa e ha dato la sapienza ai suoi fedeli.	33 the Lord himself having created al things and given wisdom to those who are devout.
