1 Figlio, non rifiutare al povero il necessario per la vita, non essere insensibile allo sguardo dei bisognosi.	1 My son, deprive not the poor of his living, and do not keep needy eyes waiting.
2 Non rattristare chi ha fame, non esasperare chi è in difficoltà.	2 Do not grieve the one who is hungry, nor anger a man in want.
3 Non turbare un cuore già esasperato, non negare un dono al bisognoso.	3 Do not add to the troubles of an angry mind, nor delay your gift to a beggar.
4 Non respingere la supplica del povero, non distogliere lo sguardo dall’indigente.	4 Do not reject an afflicted suppliant, nor turn your face away from the poor.
5 Da chi ti chiede non distogliere lo sguardo, non dare a lui l’occasione di maledirti,	5 Do not avert your eye from the needy, nor give a man occasion to curse you;
6 perché se egli ti maledice nell’amarezza del cuore, il suo creatore ne esaudirà la preghiera.	6 for if in bitterness of soul he calls down a curse upon you, his Creator will hear his prayer.
7 Fatti amare dalla comunità e davanti a un grande abbassa il capo.	7 Make yourself beloved in the congregation; bow your head low to a great man.
8 Porgi il tuo orecchio al povero e rendigli un saluto di pace con mitezza.	8 Incline your ear to the poor, and answer him peaceably and gently.
9 Strappa l’oppresso dal potere dell’oppressore e non essere meschino quando giudichi.	9 Deliver him who is wronged from the hand of the wrongdoer; and do not be fainthearted in judging a case.
10 Sii come un padre per gli orfani, come un marito per la loro madre: sarai come un figlio dell’Altissimo, ed egli ti amerà più di tua madre.	10 Be like a father to orphans, and instead of a husband to their mother; you will then be like a son of the Most High, and he will love you more than does your mother.
11 La sapienza esalta i suoi figli e si prende cura di quanti la cercano.	11 Wisdom exalts her sons and gives help to those who seek her.
12 Chi ama la sapienza ama la vita, chi la cerca di buon mattino sarà ricolmo di gioia.	12 Whoever loves her loves life, and those who seek her early will be filled with joy.
13 Chi la possiede erediterà la gloria; dovunque vada, il Signore lo benedirà.	13 Whoever holds her fast will obtain glory, and the Lord will bless the place she enters.
14 Chi la venera rende culto a Dio, che è il Santo, e il Signore ama coloro che la amano.	14 Those who serve her will minister to the Holy One; the Lord loves those who love her.
15 Chi l’ascolta giudicherà le nazioni, chi le presta attenzione vivrà tranquillo.	15 He who obeys her will judge the nations, and whoever gives heed to her will dwell secure.
16 Chi confida in lei l’avrà in eredità, i suoi discendenti ne conserveranno il possesso.	16 If he has faith in her he will obtain her; and his descendants will remain in possession of her.
17 Dapprima lo condurrà per vie tortuose, gli incuterà timore e paura, lo tormenterà con la sua disciplina, finché possa fidarsi di lui e lo abbia provato con i suoi decreti;	17 For at first she will walk with him on tortuous paths, she will bring fear and cowardice upon him, and will torment him by her discipline until she trusts him, and she will test him with her ordinances.
18 ma poi lo ricondurrà su una via diritta e lo allieterà, gli manifesterà i propri segreti.	18 Then she will come straight back to him and gladden him, and will reveal her secrets to him.
19 Se invece egli batte una falsa strada, lo lascerà andare e lo consegnerà alla sua rovina.	19 If he goes astray she will forsake him, and hand him over to his ruin.
20 Tieni conto del momento e guàrdati dal male, e non avere vergogna di te stesso.	20 Observe the right time, and beware of evil; and do not bring shame on yourself.
21 C’è una vergogna che porta al peccato e c’è una vergogna che porta gloria e grazia.	21 For there is a shame which brings sin, and there is a shame which is glory and favor.
22 Non usare riguardi a tuo danno e non arrossire a tua rovina.	22 Do not show partiality, to your own harm, or deference, to your downfall.
23 Non astenerti dal parlare quando è necessario e non nascondere la tua sapienza per bellezza,	23 Do not refrain from speaking at the crucial time, and do not hide your wisdom.
24 poiché dalla parola si riconosce la sapienza e l’istruzione dai detti della lingua.	24 For wisdom is known through speech, and education through the words of the tongue.
25 Non contrastare la verità, ma arrossisci della tua ignoranza.	25 Never speak against the truth, but be mindful of your ignorance.
26 Non vergognarti di confessare i tuoi peccati e non opporti alla corrente di un fiume.	26 Do not be ashamed to confess your sins, and do not try to stop the current of a river.
27 Non sottometterti a un uomo stolto, non essere parziale a favore di un potente.	27 Do not subject yourself to a foolish fellow, nor show partiality to a ruler.
28 Lotta sino alla morte per la verità, il Signore Dio combatterà per te.	28 Strive even to death for the truth and the Lord God will fight for you.
29 Non essere arrogante nel tuo linguaggio, fiacco e indolente nelle opere.	29 Do not be reckless in your speech, or sluggish and remiss in your deeds.
30 Non essere come un leone nella tua casa e capriccioso con i tuoi servi.	30 Do not be like a lion in your home, nor be a faultfinder with your servants.
31 La tua mano non sia tesa per prendere e poi chiusa nel restituire.	31 Let not your hand be extended to receive, but withdrawn when it is time to repay.
