BIBBIA CEI 2008	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Il figlio saggio ama la correzione del padre, lo spavaldo non ascolta il rimprovero.	1 A wise child listens to a father's discipline, a cynic wil not listen to reproof.
2 Con il frutto della bocca ci si nutre di beni, ma l’appetito dei perfidi si ciba di violenza.	2 The fruit of the mouth provides a good meal, but the soul of the treacherous feeds on violence.
3 Chi sorveglia la bocca preserva la sua vita, chi spalanca le sue labbra va incontro alla rovina.	3 A guard on the mouth makes life secure, whoever talks too much is lost.
4 Il pigro brama, ma non c’è nulla per il suo appetito, mentre l’appetito dei laboriosi sarà soddisfatto.	4 The idler hungers but has no food; hard workers get their fill.
5 Il giusto odia la parola falsa, l’empio disonora e diffama.	5 The upright hates a lying word, but the wicked slanders and defames.
6 La giustizia custodisce chi ha una condotta integra, la malvagità manda in rovina il peccatore.	6 Uprightness stands guard over one whose way is honest, sin causes the ruin of the wicked.
7 C’è chi fa il ricco e non ha nulla, c’è chi fa il povero e possiede molti beni.	7 There are some who, on nothing, pretend to be rich, some, with great wealth, pretend to be poor.
8 Riscatto della vita d’un uomo è la sua ricchezza, ma il povero non avverte la minaccia.	8 The ransom for life is a person's wealth; but the poor wil not hear the reproof.
9 La luce dei giusti porta gioia, la lampada dei malvagi si spegne.	9 The light of the upright is joyful, the lamp of the wicked goes out.
10 L’insolenza provoca litigi, ma la sapienza sta con chi accetta consigli.	10 Insolence breeds only disputes, wisdom lies with those who take advice.
11 La ricchezza venuta dal nulla diminuisce, chi la accumula a poco a poco, la fa aumentare.	11 A sudden fortune wil dwindle away, accumulation little by little is the way to riches.
12 Un’attesa troppo prolungata fa male al cuore, un desiderio soddisfatto è albero di vita.	12 Hope deferred makes the heart sick, desire fulfil ed is a tree of life.
13 Chi disprezza la parola si rende debitore, chi rispetta un ordine viene ricompensato.	13 Contempt for the word is self-destructive, respect for the commandment wins salvation.
14 L’insegnamento del saggio è fonte di vita per sfuggire ai lacci della morte.	14 The teaching of the wise is a life-giving fountain for eluding the snares of death.
15 Il senno procura favore, ma il contegno dei perfidi porta alla rovina.	15 Good sense wins favour, but the way of the treacherous is hard.
16 La persona avveduta prima di agire riflette, lo stolto mette in mostra la sua stupidità.	16 Anyone of discretion acts by the light of knowledge, the fool parades his fol y.
17 Un cattivo messaggero causa sciagure, un inviato fedele porta salute.	17 A bad messenger fal s into misfortune, a trusty messenger brings healing.
18 Povertà e ignominia a chi rifiuta la correzione, chi tiene conto del rimprovero sarà onorato.	18 Whoever rejects discipline wins poverty and scorn; for anyone who accepts correction: honour.
19 Desiderio appagato è dolcezza per l’anima; fa orrore agli stolti evitare il male.	19 Desire fulfil ed is sweet to the soul; fools are loth to turn -- from evil.
20 Va’ con i saggi e saggio diventerai, chi pratica gli stolti ne subirà danno.	20 Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, whoever mixes with fools wil be ruined.
21 La sventura insegue i peccatori, il bene è la ricompensa dei giusti.	21 Evil wil pursue the sinner, but good wil reward the upright.
22 L’uomo buono lascia eredi i figli dei figli, è riservata al giusto la ricchezza del peccatore.	22 The good bequeaths a heritage to children's children, the wealth of the sinner is stored away for theupright.
23 Vi è cibo in abbondanza nei campi dei poveri, ma può essere sottratto per mancanza di giustizia.	23 Though the farms of the poor yield much food, some perish for lack of justice.
24 Chi risparmia il bastone odia suo figlio, chi lo ama è pronto a correggerlo.	24 Whoever fails to use the stick hates his child; whoever is free with correction loves him.
25 Il giusto mangia fino a saziarsi, ma il ventre dei malvagi resta vuoto.	25 The upright eats to the full, the bel y of the wicked goes empty.
