| 1 Allora Isacco chiamò Giacobbe, lo bene disse e gli diede questo comando: «Tu non devi prendere moglie tra le figlie di Canaan. | 1 Then Isaac called Jacob and blessed him, and charged him, "You shall not marry one of the Canaanite women. |
| 2 Su, va’ in Paddan-Aram, nella casa di Batuel, padre di tua madre, e di là sposa qualcuna delle figlie di Labano, fratello di tua madre. | 2 Arise, go to Paddan-aram to the house of Bethuel your mother's father; and take as wife from there one of the daughters of Laban your mother's brother. |
| 3 Ti benedica El-Shaddai, ti renda fecondo e ti moltiplichi, così che tu divenga una accolta di popoli. | 3 God Almighty bless you and make you fruitful and multiply you, that you may become a company of peoples. |
| 4 E dia la benedizione di Abramo a te e alla tua discendenza con te, perché tu possieda la terra nella quale hai soggiornato come forestiero e che Dio ha dato ad Abramo». | 4 May he give the blessing of Abraham to you and to your descendants with you, that you may take possession of the land of your sojournings which God gave to Abraham!" |
| 5 Così Isacco fece partire Giacobbe, che andò in Paddan-Aram presso Labano l’Arameo, figlio di Batuel e fratello di Rebecca, la madre di Giacobbe e di Esaù. | 5 Thus Isaac sent Jacob away; and he went to Paddan-aram to Laban, the son of Bethuel the Aramean, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob's and Esau's mother. |
| 6 Allora Esaù vide che Isacco aveva benedetto Giacobbe e che, dopo averlo benedetto, lo aveva mandato in Paddan-Aram per prendersi una moglie di là, e gli aveva dato questo comando: «Non devi prender Moglie tra le figlie di Canaan». | 6 Now Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him away to Paddan-aram to take a wife from there, and that as he blessed him he charged him, "You shall not marry one of the Canaanite women," |
| 7 Giacobbe aveva ubbidito al padre e alla madre ed era partito per Paddan-Aram. | 7 and that Jacob had obeyed his father and his mother and gone to Paddan-aram. |
| 8 Così Esaù comprese: che le figlie di Canaan non erano gradite agli occhi di Isacco suo padre. | 8 So when Esau saw that the Canaanite women did not please Isaac his father, |
| 9 Quindi Esaù si recò da Ismaele e, oltre le mogli che aveva, sposò Makhelet figlia di Ismaele, figlio di Abramo, sorella di Nebaiot. | 9 Esau went to Ishmael and took to wife, besides the wives he had, Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael Abraham's son, the sister of Nebaioth. |
| 10 Giacobbe partì da Bersabea e si diresse verso Kharran. | 10 Jacob left Beer-sheba, and went toward Haran. |
| 11 Capitò così in un certo luogo, dove si fermò a passare la notte, perché il sole era tramontato; prese una delle pietre del luogo, se la mise come sostegno del capo e si coricò in quel luogo. | 11 And he came to a certain place, and stayed there that night, because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones of the place, he put it under his head and lay down in that place to sleep. |
| 12 Sognò di vedere una scala che poggiava sulla terra, mentre la sua cima raggiungeva il cielo; ed ecco gli angeli di Dio salire e scendere su di essa. | 12 And he dreamed that there was a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven; and behold, the angels of God were ascending and descending on it! |
| 13 Ed ecco Jahvè stargli davanti e dire: «Io sono Jahvè, Dio di Abramo tuo padre e Dio di Isacco. Io darò a te e alla tua discendenza la terra sulla quale sei coricato. | 13 And behold, the LORD stood above it and said, "I am the LORD, the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie I will give to you and to your descendants; |
| 14 La tua discendenza sarà come la polvere della terra e ti estenderai a occidente e a oriente, a settentrione e a mezzogiorno. Saranno benedette per te e per la tua discendenza tutte le famiglie della terra. | 14 and your descendants shall be like the dust of the earth, and you shall spread abroad to the west and to the east and to the north and to the south; and by you and your descendants shall all the families of the earth bless themselves. |
| 15 Ed, ecco, io sono con te e ti custodirò dovunque tu andrai, poi ti farò ritornare in questo paese, perché non ti abbandonerò senza avere fatto quanto ti ho detto». | 15 Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done that of which I have spoken to you." |
| 16 Allora Giacobbe si svegliò dal sonno e disse: «Veramente Jahvè è in questo luogo, e io non lo sapevo!» | 16 Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, "Surely the LORD is in this place; and I did not know it." |
| 17 Poi ebbe timore e disse: «Come è terribile questo luogo! Questa non è che una casa di Dio e questa è la porta del cielo». | 17 And he was afraid, and said, "How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven." |
| 18 Alla mattina presto Giacobbe si alzò, prese la pietra che gli era servita come sostegno del capo, la rizzò come una stele e versò olio sulla sua sommità. | 18 So Jacob rose early in the morning, and he took the stone which he had put under his head and set it up for a pillar and poured oil on the top of it. |
| 19 Allora chiamò Bethel quel luogo; però prima di allora il nome della città era Luz. | 19 He called the name of that place Bethel; but the name of the city was Luz at the first. |
| 20 Giacobbe fece questo voto: «Se Dio sarà con me e mi custodirà nel viaggio che sto facendo e mi darà parie da mangiare e vesti per coprirmi. | 20 Then Jacob made a vow, saying, "If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat and clothing to wear, |
| 21 Se ritornerò in pace alla casa di mio padre, allora Jahvè sarà il mio Dio. | 21 so that I come again to my father's house in peace, then the LORD shall be my God, |
| 22 Questa pietra che io ho eretto come una stele sarà una casa di Dio; io ti offrirò la decima di quanto tu mi darai». | 22 and this stone, which I have set up for a pillar, shall be God's house; and of all that thou givest me I will give the tenth to thee." |
