BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Al que teme al Señor ningún mal le sucede, aunque sufra una prueba, se verá librado.	1 No evil wil befal one who fears the Lord, such a one will be rescued even in the ordeal.
2 El varón sabio no aborrece la ley, mas el que finge observarla es como nave en borrasca.	2 No one who hates the Law is wise, one who is hypocritical about it is like a storm-tossed ship.
3 El hombre inteligente pone su confianza en la ley, la ley es para él digna de fe como un oráculo.	3 An intelligent person will put faith in the Law, for such a one the Law is as dependable as a prophecy.
4 Prepara tu discurso, y serás así escuchado, concentra tu saber y responde.	4 Prepare what you have to say and you will get a hearing, marshal your information before you answer.
5 Rueda de carro son las entrañas del necio, como eje que da vueltas, su razonamiento.	5 The feelings of a fool are like a cart-wheel, a fool's thought revolves like a turning axle.
6 Caballo de remonta, así el amigo burlón, bajo todo el que lo monta relincha.	6 A rutting stal ion is like a sarcastic friend; he neighs, whoever rides him.
7 ¿Por qué un día es superior a otro, si toda la luz de cada día del año viene del sol?	7 Why is one day better than another, though the sun gives the same daylight throughout the year?
8 En la mente del Señor fueron diferenciados, él hizo distintas estaciones y fiestas.	8 They have been differentiated in the mind of the Lord, who has diversified the seasons and feasts;
9 A unos los ensalzó y santificó, a otros los hizo días ordinarios.	9 some he has made more important and has hal owed, others he has made ordinary days.
10 Así todos los hombres vienen del suelo, de la tierra fue creado Adán.	10 Human beings come from the ground, Adam himself was formed out of earth;
11 Con su gran sabiduría los diferenció el Señor, e hizo distintos sus caminos.	11 in the fullness of his wisdom the Lord has made distinctions between them, and diversified theirconditions.
12 A unos los bendijo y ensalzó, los santificó y los puso junto a sí; a otros los maldijo y humilló y los derribó de su puesto.	12 Some of them he has blessed, hal owing and setting them near him; others he has cursed andhumiliated by degrading them from their positions.
13 Como la arcilla del alfarero está en su mano, - y todos sus caminos en su voluntad -, así los hombres en la mano de su Hacedor, que a cada uno da según su juicio.	13 Like clay in the hands of the potter to mould as it pleases him, so are human beings in the hands oftheir Maker to reward as he judges right.
14 Frente al mal está el bien, frente a la muerte, la vida. Así frente al piadoso, el pecador.	14 Opposite evil stands good, opposite death, life; so too opposite the devout stands the sinner.
15 Fíjate, pues, en todas las obras del Altísimo, dos a dos, una frente a otra.	15 Contemplate al the works of the Most High, you wil find they go in pairs, by opposites.
16 También yo, el último, me he desvelado, como quien racima tras de los viñadores.	16 Although the last to come, I have kept my eyes open like a man picking up what the grape-pickershave left.
17 Por la bendición del Señor me he adelantado, y como viñador he llenado el lagar.	17 By the blessing of the Lord I have come in first, and like a true grape-picker have fil ed my winepress.
18 Mirad que no para mí solo me he afanado, sino para todos los que buscan la instrucción.	18 And note, I have not been working merely for myself, but for al who seek instruction.
19 Escuchadme, grandes del pueblo, jefes de la asamblea, prestad oído.	19 Listen to me, important public figures, presidents of the assembly, give ear!
20 A hijo y mujer, a hermano y amigo no des poder sobre ti en vida tuya. No des a otros tus riquezas, no sea que, arrepentido, tengas que suplicar por ellas.	20 Neither to son nor wife, brother nor friend, give power over yourself during your own lifetime. And donot give your property to anyone else, in case you regret it and have to ask for it back.
21 Mientras vivas y haya aliento en ti, no te enajenes a ti mismo a nadie.	21 As long as you live and there is breath in your body, do not yield power over yourself to anyone;
22 Pues es mejor que tus hijos te pidan, que no que tengas que mirar a los manos de tus hijos.	22 better for your children to come begging to you, than for you to have to go begging to them.
23 En todas tus obras muéstrate con dominio, no pongas mancha en tu gloria.	23 In al you do be the master, and leave a reputation unstained.
24 Cuando se acaben los días de tu vida, a la hora de la muerte, reparte tu herencia.	24 The day your life draws to a close, at the hour of death, then distribute your heritage.
25 Al asno, forraje, palo y carga, al criado, pan, instrucción y trabajo.	25 Fodder, the stick and burdens for a donkey, bread, discipline and work for a slave.
26 Haz trabajar al siervo, y encontrarás descanso, deja libres sus manos, y buscará la libertad.	26 Work your slave hard, and you wil have peace of mind, leave his hands idle, and he wil be asking forhis freedom.
27 Yugo y riendas doblegan la cerviz, al mal criado torturas e inquisiciones.	27 Yoke and harness wil bow the neck, for a bad servant, torments and the rack.
28 Mándale trabajar para que no esté ocioso, que mucho mal enseñó la ociosidad.	28 Set him to work, so that he will not be idle; idleness teaches every kind of mischief.
29 Ponle trabajo como le corresponde, si no obedece, carga sus pies de grillos.	29 Keep him at his duties, where he should be, if he is disobedient, clap him in irons.
30 Pero no te sobrepases con nadie, no hagas nada sin equidad.	30 But do not be over-exacting with anyone, and do nothing contrary to justice.
31 Si tienes un criado, sea como tú, porque con sangre lo adquiriste.	31 You have only one slave? Treat him like yourself, since you have acquired him with blood.
32 Si tienes un criado, trátale como hermano, porque has menester de él como de ti mismo.	32 You have only one slave? Treat him as a brother, since you need him as you need yourself.
33 Si le maltratas, y levantándose, se escapa, ¿por qué camino irás a buscarle?	33 If you ill-treat him and he runs away, which way wil you go to look for him?
